This game is absolutely wonderful, loved every moment of it.
Time for 100%!

The festival is also my favorite part.

Anyone else irritated by the "you're probably using the controllers wrong " splash screen? Does it ever go away? It's the Nintendo equivalent of the fbi piracy screen.

Oh! So if I have "X" moons listed in my list for a level before I finish the game, I can't get all "X" right now or does "X" increase after end-game?

The moon list might increase (I'm not sure, as I'm nowhere near the end of the game), but I do know that there are many moons on the current list for each kingdom that are unobtainable your first time through.

I figured that may be the case, but it literally won't let me leave the kingdom until I find 16 more, and I've already found
26 out of 54 power moons
. So I don't know how I'm going to do this if they don't let me go back to a previous kingdom and collect more.

Oh, ok. Yeah, there are still some more in that stage you can collect right now (I think?), but 26 should be more than enough to move to the next kingdom.

Jelsous as heck of all of you, hopefully I'll be able to snag a Switch in November and finally play this (and Zelda!). Some really encouraging impressions so far though and video footage I've seen looks extremely promising.

this game is fuuuuuun

ive missed a good mario game, and I really like how fluid movement is and how you can make mario do anything you want

I just wish the long jump felt as good as m64's one though :p. Its too short in this game!

also I wish the rolling speed while mashing the buttons on the controllers was the same as when you shake it. I dont see why shaking has to be faster. Oh well

Also i'm not very far in, Im at the 4th world I believe.

Long jump, hat throw, dive, hat throw, dive, land rolling....the amount of distance you cover puts the 64 long jump to shame

Beat the game earlier today. It was an absolute joy. The final sequence was a little frustrating, but that was the first frustrating moment of the game. I think my favorite part is what happens after you "beat" the game. It's easily my favorite thing in a video game this year. It is just so, so cool.

I'm at 252 moons right now. And I'm not even close to tired playing. What a wonderful game!

Had to put my the controller down. I'm a 38 year old grown ass person and this game just moved me to tears in a surprise moment about halfway through.

Edit: shame people are spoiling it. Sigh

see, that's why I was scared to post that too.

The hat adds a lot to the game but i'm still not used to using it properly. I never wouldve guessed the combo you just wrote would work. I need to start using the hat more for sure

This game is very good.

Is the true Super Mario 64 successor people have been waiting for?

As a new Switch owner, I have a quick question about the Pro controller. My dpad seems fine (I played a lot of Tetris and never get any unexpected drops) but I noticed that I have to hit the Right bumper button really hard to get it to register. I can hit it so that it completely depresses and it won't register at all unless I hit it hard enough. Is that normal for the Pro? Just dont want to return it and risk getting one with a bad dpad if I dont have to.

button combo:

long jump
hold Y = Hat throw that bounces you up.
immediately dive

youll dive into the hat and be bounced up.

hat throw then dive again. takes some practice, but once your fingers get used to the timing, its a breeze.

Mario and Bowser both getting rejected by Peach, and Mario consoling Bowser is the hardest I've laughed at a non RPG Mario game

Hit the minus key and then Y.

Thanks. You da real MVP.

One interesting thing I've felt that the gameplay has been very reminiscent of the Banjo/Kazooie games with the transformations used as means of solving puzzles or just moving further.

So true, I'm happy I wasn't alone in thinking that. You get a proper level to explore Mario-style, while also getting the adventure/transformations/collectible aspect of Banjo Kazooie/Tooie. I never thought I'd see this kind of game.

The entire dad should be fully responsive without any extra exertion on one button vs another

Angola / Zaire border region.
I am trying hard to milk the experience as long as possible, I just got to New Donk but I am avoiding going in lol .. played a few rounds of Salmon Run last night and now I'm picking through some of the earlier Kingdoms looking for purple coins and moons. I always get like this with GOAT-tier games, I am simultaneously dying to see whats next while also feeling apprehensive about progressing and thus bringing the end ever closer.

Ill try it out. My only beef is that so many times I mess up the dive timing and end up doing a ground pound instead

I wouldve liked having a dedicated dive button ( instead of having 2 buttons dedicated to throwing the hat and the dive being a weird mix of ground pound + Y)

I played the sand kingdom for hours and then thought to myself "I'm probably almost done with this, I bet I'm only missing a few more moons here."

Jesus Christ, I couldn't have been more wrong. I'm putting the game down for a bit because it was a little demoralizing.

One thing I think besides the off putting character design of the evil bunny bosses is all thier fights are simple "round arena, stun with hat, jump on head 3X fights. They had some cool attack patterns but were pretty unnecessary to the game overall.

more bosses like seaside would have been cool.

I keep thinking about the Metro Kingdom

Might be my favorite place in any Mario game ever

I agree. I actually thought to myself that I'd like a Mario platformer contained only within New Donk City. They could flesh out the city and have Mario visit all the sectors: finance center, commercial district, industrial district, suburban residential district, high-rise residential district, city center, docks.

Any tips on this? For example, an ideal camera angle?

I played around with it for a bit and there's some stuff, but nothing that seems fully foolproof:

- The biggest thing seems to be the girl on the right saying "Hey", this is 100% timed to the proper jump timing but if you're depending solely on that and not internalizing the rhythm you'll probably miss after 50 anyway.
- The dust also seems to help, but only up to a point. I doubt it's possible to use it for the fastest speed.
- The most comfortable camera angle for me was looking at one of the girls from the back and then pulling the camera up a bit.
- The Joycons seem to rumble to the rhythmn too but since Mario landing also causes vibration it's not a great method.
- I didn't get to try this, but I suspect that doing the mini-game with whatever tiny difference handheld mode or a pro controller make in terms of lag might help as well.
- Some may find it helpful to swap between B and A each jump. I did better sticking to one.

In the end what worked for me was getting up to 40 using the Heys and then from there using a tic-toc button press pattern.

Wow, this game is amazing. I've been playing it alot over the last couple days, and still haven't gotten anywhere near bored with. Exploring, and even simply moving around the environments is just so much fun, and the game is filled to bursting with creativity and variety around every corner, while still packing in a ridiculous amount of content. Incredible experience so far. Only negative are the motion controls, which I really dislike (very finicky and distracting for me), but they don't ruin the game by any stretch of the imagination.

same here. left some screens on the page back. they did so much right with this game. i dont normally ask for DLC but bring it nintendo.

also after doing the event in New Donk City, i want a whole new Super Mario Maker, not a port.
