seeing people talk about Persona 5, RE4, MGS 2, and Skyrim here is hilarious

aren't those games critically acclaimed and widely loved by the public?

anyway, my pick is FFXV which is kinda divisive I guess
You'd be surprised, actually. They're critically acclaimed by critics and the mainstream, but jeez, do I hear a word about Morrowind whenever I even dare to mention Skyrim in any internet forum.

Weird how games I would like to defend are now beloved by ERA.
Remember when FF XII was hated but "it is good now". Cowards, even pre Zodiac Age, that game was incredible. The gambit system was a bunch of if statements that subconsciously made me take a programming career.
RE4? "oh controls like jank" but now "classic!" * rolls eyes * please

Halo Wars 1 & 2. I know it will not be on anyone's list, but for me these two games were great and provided a ton of gaming.

Baby, I've stanned Fallout New Vegas since it came out. There was a period of time where the majority of people acted like Fallout 3 was better.

Got into so many arguments about the quality of writing, characters, quests, etc... No regrets.

Of course now almost everyone seems to love New Vegas and praises it highly, but boy I remember actually being called a contrarian/hipster for liking it from the start.

These replies are fucking mystifying. When did Persona 3-5, Resident Evil 4, MGS2, and Bloodborne EVER need defending? Those games are about as far from "underrated gems" as you could get. I've got many, many gripes with Persona 4 and 5, but I'm just one guy.

The Resident Evil 6 defender has logged on.
Hell yeah.

As a guy who as played Ninja Gaiden Black, Sigma, II, Sigma 2, 3, and Razor's Edge, I will defend Sigma 1, 2, and Razor's Edge.

But OG Ninja Gaiden 3 is one of the worst games of the decade. That can't be defended in any way.

DmC: Definitive Edition is another one. Yeah, the mechanics aren't as good as 3 or 5. Yeah, the story's pretty crap. But it's still a solid action game in it's own right.

The OG God of War games. They're on the same level as DMC and Ninja Gaiden when it comes to the quality of their combat (Most people talked about their insane setpieces and graphics... Not the depth of it's combat.). Fuck you.

My initial gut response was Rayman 2: The Great Escape, but that's fairly accepted as a great game.

I'd probably go with Super Mario 3D World. Best goddamn 3D Mario by a landslide, just as NSMBU is the best 2D Mario.

But the real answer is the Wii U. I fuckin' love the Wii U.

Zombi U was a really damn cool and overall unique experience that was a really compelling concept and had a really fun asynchronous multiplayer mode. It took such good advantage of the Wii U right from the start and I'm always disappointed how I'm the only one who seems to think that way among my friend groups, and even among a lot of online gamers.

I am perfectly aware of the many flaws Alpha Protocol has. Nevertheless, it remains the best game Obsidian ever made, and I will not be dissuaded.

Also, Deus Ex remains the GOAT.

Uncharted 4.

Those complaining about pacing issues can go back to playing those non-stop action Call of Duty games where nothing else matters.

People who actually care about Uncharted will note that those slow story moments elevated the characters to an all new high level even though they were already some of the best characters in gaming.

It hurts to have to answer this given everything going on with Blizzard right now, but I have consistently maintained and continue to believe that StarCraft II is by far the best game they have ever turned out.

I respect people not liking Hollow Knight, but if your problem is with the map then you are mistaken on a fundamental level.

Yes, this. Love the mapping system to bits. Navigation and openness are the very thing that Hollow Knight understands about the genre that so many would-be Metroid imitators don't.

My initial gut response was Rayman 2: The Great Escape, but that's fairly accepted as a great game.

I get the impression more people are seeing the light these days with 3DW.

Meanwhile, I'll probably never run out of resistance whenever I push the case for Star Fox Zero.

FFXV. It brought back the sense of adventure to FF. The full story is also a satisfying JRPG story, they just need to make a version that integrates both Kingsglaive and the DLC's to the main game.

Deadly Premonition. I don't care if the actual game is mediocre, probably even straight up bad. Deadly Premonition is one of the most charming, funniest, and memorable games I've had the pleasure of playing many times now. I will die on that hill and you can't stop me.

FF XIII trilogy, or any game in the trilogy as someone who loved XV, VII any other open world FF, I really still enjoyed those games.

Total Annihilation.

I don't care how old it is, I don't care that Starcraft had better story and more diverse sides. It is still, to this day, the best handling traditional RTS I have seen. This includes its spiritual successor(s), which strived to upgrade the formula but fell a little short in the end.

I will defend any of the Trails games to the death. With swords.
I also love Kiseki, but I agree with most of the criticism towards the games (too slow for some players, Cold Steel II has lots of padding, some silly anime tropes).

I don't usually defent anything tbh, I love some games but I mostly accept their weak points (even if I don't share them).

Duke Nukem 3D, MGS Twin Snakes, Duke Nukem Forever (to a point, I get it's not everyone's thing), MGS2 thru V, Doom 3 a bit, Dragon Age 2, Mega Man 2 and 3, King of Fighters series, GTA, RDR2, Thief 2014, Bioshock Infinite, Hitman Absolution, FF 15...

Maybe I signed up for too many of these to the death game battles... on the battlefield...

Knack. Never before have I seen such a great game receive so much undeserved hate. Easily one of the most satisfying beat 'em ups of the modern era when played on the highest difficulty setting, as is its sequel.

I mean to me, defending something isn't pretending that it has no faults (and I don't believe that the Trails series is flawless) so much as said faults not impacting your love for it.

Also Danganronpa V3

Some people REALLY hate that game, but I will forever defend it as the best in the series.

I have no problem with the logical criticism of a game I love. I can't think of many games that I don't have criticisms of. That includes games I love dearly.

Burnout Paradise. It's the best racing game ever made (with Burnout 3 and Revenge both a hair behind).

Fallout 4. I will always stand by the fact that ITS BETTER than Fallout 3, by a big margin (haven't played NV so I cant really say anything about that)
Uncharted 4.

I liked Uncharted 1-3 cause it was a light hearted Indiana Jonesy adventure.

On the contrary, Uncharted 4 isn't what Uncharted is, and it never will be. UC was always about non-stop action and set pieces with a light hearted tone, now they tried to make it into TLOU but it didnt really work.

Dead Rising Wii.

People wanted more RE4 Wii Edition, and they got it, just with a Dead Rising skin. And everyone hated it because it was different from the 360 Dead Rising. It was a great game, dammit.

Soul Calibur 2. Still the best game in the series. I'm always secretly hoping someone says something bad about it, so I can get in an argument with them.

Pokemon gen 2

"But Kanto is basically a boss rush you can finish in an afternoon and the game was compromised elsewhere because of it" Yeah except no other game in the series even bothers to attempt something like it and the result is a fully-realized multi-region world in a game that keeps you coming back to it, even if Kanto feels smaller on its own it's not supposed to stand on its own. Smh I swear half of the people with these complaints are zoomers who weren't even alive for this game's release.

Not with endless boring climbing sections and only 3 hours of combat in the entire game. Yeah, no. Lost Legacy tho, is a great game.

Edit: and with just one real setpiece (a great one, but its still just one).

So its "not Uncharted" and "its TLOU" because it had more character focus and less action? Sounds pretentious af. Everything that defined Uncharted was there, from the wisecracking characters in seemingly impossible situations to the finding and exploring ancient ruins.

For me that would be Kid Icarus Uprising.

Seriously the greatest handheld game ever.

Those who complained about controls could not learn the proper way to play. And believe that the hand cramp complains, most of them are from people with big hands

Man I thought I was alone in this- defending that game at first I mean, because everyone loves the game now. But like, first year... or two? You either got people dismissing it out of hand because of lolbugsidian, or people dogging it because it wasn't so open and explorable as Fallout 3. I remember playing it week one and thinking it was some kind of revelation, and that i'd hit the forums and see everyone thinking the same...

Yeah. It felt way more serious than before, for no real reason.

Yeah, you're right, the game is pretentious AF.

I usually don't agree with the "Sony makes overrated cinematic, story based, osacr bait types games" crowd, but if there is a game that fits that, it's this one.

So is this the thread where people admit which game it is they're biased as hell with so we know not to bother arguing with them about it?
