To be back at #10 on the PS4 top for December, the Definitive Edition of Horizon Zero Dawn must have sold pretty well. Of course the game is also #5 for the whole year on PS4, which seems to be consistent with its performance in the rest of the world. One of the best success story of 2017 for a new IP.

Some LTD number for Aloy from John Harker would be sweet, especially since Sony didn't provide an update since April (3,4 million worldwide) =)

Skyrim being the #10 best selling Switch game of 2017 despite just 2 months of sales is quite amazing, and paints a bright picture for big 3rd party games on it.

Skyrim on Switch was very overpriced compared to other consoles, and was essentially a port of a 6-7 year old game that's already been ported tons of times. So for upcoming 3rd party games that actually have price parity and are releasing simultaneously as other consoles like Dark Souls, I'm expecting seriously great results. Switch's version of Dark Souls might even outsell the other new ones despite the massive userbase gulf.

What else would be #10? This list shows us that people buy Nintendo console for Nintendo games/IPs even Pokken is higher. This really tell us nothing without hard numbers.

Is anyone capable of wrangling the hardware revenue for Microsoft? I'd like to calculate a rough estimation of how many Xbox One X's were sold.

All the major 3rd party ports came out around November, so these are only 1.5 months of sales essentially and Skyrim still made the list over something like FE Warriors which is an actual Nintendo IP. Likely would've been a good deal higher if given some more time too. Dunno hard numbers but I'd guess it's 260k or something given Xeno 2 is 280k and right above it. Very likely a solid performance given what it is.

Units - PS4, Consumer Spend - Xbox One

All 3 consoles did exceptionally well. In my mind, looking at the data, it's really a three way tie for "winning" Q4. The gaps in both Units and Spending between the three are quite small. No one ran away with the quarter. Each platform has found its own audience.

this being the case, I will say that I'd give Microsoft the 1st price, if someone had to "win" Q4.

it had everything against it, basically no notable exclusives this year and a very very consumer unfriendly price for its new hardware (no matter how much it's worth it). It stood head to head with both PS4, which had a $199 Pro in november/black friday and Switch, which had its first holiday ever.

Not to mention, Nintendo and Sony had a ridiculous selection of exclusives, I really am surprised MS retained the mindshare. I'd have bet MS would be a distant third but here we are will all 3 doing well.

the only bad news is that by now Microsoft has most likely realized they don't need to invest in exclusives like Lost Odyssey or Viva Piñata to succeed.

Just give Americans good hardware, excellent online services and your yearly casual Multiplats like CoD, Madden and GTA and the hardware then moves by itself.

The game sold 2.6 million in two weeks after release. Meanwhile, the US sales number for the game was just over 1 million according to John Harker, and this is after more than 4 weeks of sales. It seems reasonable to assume that at least at the end of March, the ratio US:ROTW was 1:2 (1 million US, 2 million ROTW). If that ratio has kept up, then WW would be under 6M by your estimation. I personally think that 5M-5.5M is a reasonable if uneducated guess for the game, which is nothing if not a really good debut for an exclusive new IP by a studio with no pedigree in this genre.

To be more precise, Horizon numbers are 2.6 million in 2 weeks, and 3.4 million in 9 weeks. (Fun fact, of those 3.4m, digital is 915K units, so retail is at 2.485.000)
USA is over 1 million in 4 weeks (over 650K digital).

I believe your ratio is good for US:RW, but i think 6 million are possible. 2 million in USA doesn't look too much, it was still in the TOP 10 revenue by November 2017.

Forgot YW. Yeah it would probably be in the 2 million category.

Yokai Watch 1 sold 1 million only in Europe lmfao. Just with Japan+Europe this game surpass 2 million by a good margin.

Good to see Skyrim in the Top 10 for the year on Switch. Being an openworld game after Zelda on the system has got to help.

Disappoint but not bad. Over 1 million units with 100$ more than the competition is very good.

It should be noted, of course, that NPD only gives US numbers, so the Americas category cannot be wholly ascribed to the US (i.e. the 4.1M is Japan+US rather than Japan+NA). Using estimates from the first quarter, the Switch had sold 906k in US, while shipments to Americas were 1.20M. Now, we can't take the ratio from that directly, either, since some units would still be in transit, and therefore shipped but not sold to the US. The question is: what percentage of Americas is US? We don't know, so let's try some scenarios that could be true, namely 80%, 85%, and 90%

USA is 85% of America, at least for most Nintendo.

The PS4 January drop is going to be interesting to see. The Slim and Pro are the same price as last year ($299/$399) but GameStop has 2 exclusive PS4 Pro's with the Monster Hunter bundle and the White model. Wonder how much that can help coming off a low December that had $50 price drops for the two systems.

Possible but sounds a little too high for 'other', at least going by how shipments tend to be somewhere between NA and Japan figures. Shipments aren't everything of course but we'll hear more about them at the end of the month.

US + Japan are like 55% of the world if I remember correctly in terms of markeshare for Nintendo.. so I wouldnt call it little to high for other.. But then again.. I dont know if the ratio is the same during the holidays.

I take issue with people saying Skyrim Switch is one of the worst versions of the game. That's just plain and factually wrong, the port is fantastic, what the hell.

Edit: I should also refresh before posting, I'm super late lol.

So the US Q4 finished how i thought it would in terms of units sold:

1st: PS4
2nd: Xbox One
3rd: Switch

Going forward i expect a close contest between the PS4 & the Switch but with the lack of new big exclusives or new hardware the Xbox One will begin to drop off more. 2018 will most likely be:

1st: PS4
2nd: Switch
3rd: Xbox One

And Horizon went on to sell only 800k in the next 11 weeks...

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dualshockers.com/horizon-zero-dawn-has-sold-3-4-million-copies/amp/

Now, maybe the monthly average went UP starting in June...which is possible. But in all likelihood it sold closer to 1 million over the next 6 months than 2-3 million.

Oh, I'm not putting it down. Anything over 3 million of a new IP on a single platform is indeed really good.

Just didn't see how the "over 6 million" guestimates was possible considering we know that it hasn't even passed 2 million in the US yet.

NPD has access to PSN digital sales, right?

You don't know if is over 2 million in USA or not. The TOP 10 chart is revenue, not units. Horizon sold 1 million in only one month, it would be disappoint if is not at 2 million now.

Interesting take the month that PUBG released. Yeah it's "console" exclusive, but that has never mattered for moving consoles. It's the only game in their stable with comparable sales to their old reliables of Fable/Gears/Halo in the US, and probably did much more for a short term hardware boost than the likes of HW2 or F7.

The Xbox One X is ironically aided by the crypto-market shenanigans; high-end gaming PCs are not as affordable as they should be. The One X is probably the best bang for your buck you can get for a 4k media player and gaming device, and this was the year those TV sets finally hit mainstream prices.

Lego and NFS on the chart, looks like a win for both games, just not a big one, after all, less consoles and Nintendo getting hungry.

I'm astonished COD is the lead, it has almost all the same problems as BF2 and Destiny 2 yet no one cares.

Yeah, no. Fire Emblem is easily above NieR and Persona, and so is Xenoblade now above Tales, Valkyria Chronicles and Ni No Kuni. I'd put MH above Soulsborne too, but waiting for the release of World to judge that is probably better.

Last time I checked Fates sold 1.6m as of 2017. That makes it below P5, Nier and probably VC1.

It's probabily the hardest one to predict............

Has anyone been able to get Xbox One X numbers out of the data? It would be interesting to see how it did in its second month, I'd naturally assume around the 500k margin given skepticism being pushed to the wayside with real world performance out in the wild.

Ah, I stand corrected...thanks!

So 2.6 million he first 2 weeks and then 800k more sales in the next 6 weeks...?

So as long as it's weekly average didn't go down at all as the months went on, i guess it could be over 6 million then.

True...at what point did Horizon drop below $59?

Horizon Zero Dawn First 2 Weeks: 2.6M
Next 7 Weeks: 0.8M

Total: 3.4M

The game should be approaching 5M if it hasn't passed that already.

Yep I agree. I would be shocked if it's much below 5 million. Especially with the low prices it's been at recently as well as the Complete edition launching with the Frozen Wilds expansion

$279 500GB
$299 1TB

Those 500GB will go down to $249 soon I would assume. Around March or maybe even next month.

The update came in early June. It's assumed sales are as week ending June 3 since no date was ever given. http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/06/06/horizon-zero-dawn-has-now-sold-34-million-copies
https://www.polygon.com/2017/6/5/15728406/ps4-sales-stats

A good example of that is the break down of sales for PS4's Horizon Zero Dawn. As of April 30, more than 3.4 million copies of the game have been sold. Of those 915,000 were digital sales, according to PlayStation.

No explanation comes to mind for Pokken, but Mario + Rabbids benefited from promotions at Target and Best Buy. One had the game at $39.99 if you bought another Switch game, and the other gave you a Nintendo-published Switch game of your choice for $39.99 if you bought Rabbids.

I think it's becoming more clear that Pokken was more held back on the Wii U than we knew and has more potential than I and others gave it.

It might probably become the biggest pokemon spinoff. A sequel should do big numbers.

Would someone mind graphing PS4, Xbox, and Switch hardware sales (NPD) over 2017? I believe we have the month-to-month data, or close approximations. I'd do it myself, but I don't have the skills or the data. Just curious. I like graphs.
