Switch restocks:

From Monday to Thursday, awful, very rare restocks, switch sold out in so many stores but today it's better, Switch restocks are back :p , example:

Bic camera funatobu

売切れでご迷惑をお掛けしていた、Nintendo Switchが入荷致しました!

Bigger switch restocks announced for tomorrow (27)

Switch restocks in my area as well, as of MonHun day (the 26th).

Great that MHW seems to be doing well, now we need some PR numbers Capcom.

Finally saw Famitsu digital estimates. 20k for Xenoblade is great. Soon 200k+ (I think it's already there in shipments).

Pretty sure they're not publishing it (or maybe they're simply distributing, but that'd be weird since Bethesda has no trouble releasing stuff in Japan on their own). Nintendo eShop page certainly lists Bethesda as publisher, not Nintendo: https://ec.nintendo.com/JP/ja/titles/70010000001370

In comparison, Mario + Rabbids does list Nintendo as publisher (not Ubisoft): https://ec.nintendo.com/JP/ja/titles/70010000002608

Though I'd say Nintendo may have asked Bethesda to delay the release of the game in Japan to fill up the Q1 line-up.

Thanks for looking into that L~A, I guess the article I read which said that Nintendo was publishing Skyrim and Doom in Japan was incorrect

I'm not sure we are getting the shipment numbers soon. Capcom IR site says they are on a "quiet period" until the end of the month...

Somewhere. I think.
Cold, yeah :p
Some beautiful pictures:

Thought for a second the 3 pics were from a game and you were trolling everyone. Damn.

Thanks for looking into that L~A, I guess the article I read which said that Nintendo was publishing Skyrim and Doom in Japan was incorrect

I think it's due to the way the JP date was announced, via a news post on Nintendo's website that made it ambiguous. There already were publishing shenanigans in NA with the Nintendo press site initially listing Nintendo as publisher, he he.

I'm not sure we are getting the shipment numbers soon. Capcom IR site says they are on a "quiet period" until the end of the month...

If the game is truly successful enough, Capcom will have a PR. At worst, we'll have a Famitsu report on Tuesday/Wednesday. This one is guaranteed, unless MHW crashed and burned (> 500k). It's too big a release, and 1m FW seems like a lock at this point.

Gamesmaya Monster Hunter first day report

The store opened at 10, 1 hour earlier than usual and a queue had been created. After then things moved at slow pace.

Around 5 that buyers started rising again, Monster Hunter World producer made a surprise appearence and everyone asked for photos and signs from him.

Monster Hunter World, controllers, head sets, network cards and PS4s are moving. 500GB PS4 is largely leading hardware SKUs.

Nah it's fine. The signs have been here for while, and now they're basically confirmed. At some point people (and by that I mean the last remnants of doubters mostly found in this thread) need to get their head out of the sand.

But I guess we can wait for an official Capcom statement, which I assume will come very soon.

What a weird thing to wait for data in a sales thread.

With snowfall and low traffic Nintendo left almost all shipments for the end of the week.

Situation is almost normalized for accessories and most software titles. Hardware remains a big problem but weekly restocks are improved comparing to previous summer drought. Supply is expected to be better in February with factories returning to normal production rates after holidays break.

Monster Hunter Release Day Impressions and Switch Stock

I visited Yodobashi Kyoto and Bic Camera Kyoto around 3pm, so I couldn't see the first lines. Before commenting on this, put some things in context with the cold. It's so cold, the biggest in some years, it seems. Roads really suffers from snow and public transportation is having delays, so logistic problems are expected.

Now, let's start with Monster Hunter. In Kyoto at least, Bic Camera is more Nintendo oriented, they give them a lot of space. So, Yodobashi at 3pm started kinda slow but some minutes after there was a line. Not too many women, a lot more young males.

At Bic Camera there weren't too many buyers, I guess they went in the morning. There were stands outside the building.

Switch is such a monster, if it wasn't for the fact that we know it has stock issues, you wouldn't be aware of it given the space on store shelves. New units for today. Software as well, Pokkén and Zelda are out of stock at Bic Camera Kyoto. Reservations for some games are available and have their own stands.

What a weird thing to wait for data in a sales thread.
But aren't we spending most of the weeks looking for signs, clues, trends... ? And all of those are extremely positives. Should we just act like we have no idea what's going on until Capcom next shareholder meeting or something?

I really feel like we are taking all the precautions in the world when talking about MHW for some reasons.

I love how they used crime scene tape-like tape for the sold-out games, ha ha.

I really feel like we are taking all the precautions in the world when talking about MHW for some reasons.

After how often people got burned on "early data" (ie: Switch stocks, some games), it definitely wouldn't be a bad thing if this was to become the norm moving forward ;) (Now I'm not saying this stuff shouldn't be discussed, in case you thought this was comgnet debate Ver. 2.0).

No. Market signals and clues point out to a successful launch, but the extent of the success is yet to be seen. It seems premature to seal the deal before we even know FW numbers. Also, MH performance will be crucial in the long-term---and this is true for a lot of games.

Comparing anecdotal info from Japan with anecdotal info outside Japan is like comparing sales info from Japan with sales info outside Japan.

One can you a good picture of general situation and is usually spot on, the other not so much.

Capcom doesn't determine demand.... retailers do.

I see.

That was with digital.

Checked the thread, 450k for XB1 (there was a debate if it was with digital), either way I think its safe to say XB1 FFXV should be getting close to 1 million by now.

Well the game is sold out on various Amazon across the world, the betas were a success, the game is currently booming on Twitch and the big streamers aren't even on yet, in Japan it looks like it's exceeding all the retailers expectations and the reviews were absolutely stellar.

After spending much time arguing here about what a great job Capcom was doing promoting and appealing to a brand new audience I feel pretty good about that. But more importantly it's great to see Capcom knock it out of the park with what was really a risky move. Monster Hunter can now potentially become a world wide hit franchise for years to come. This situation has to be a shareholder dream.

Yup, really surprised by its online reach. This could turn out to be the best move Capcom has made this generation.

I mean, you're making it sound like people are trying to stall and embezzle the success, but the fact is that we don't have any hard data yet except for the 600k preorders in Japan. We can decide whether it is doing well once we have some data to judge its performance on. I made this post a couple of days ago for the exact purpose of judging MHW's performance against its predecessors, so that we can actually understand what the data we will get means:

In a couple of days MHW will launch. I think it's a good idea to look at the performance of MH4U to get a sense of the sales context of the 3DS MH releases in the West:

In general, MH4U is the only MH game to breach the 1 million mark in the West, totalling 4 million units sold (shipped, but that was 2 years ago) with Japan + West combined. It launched February 13th 2015 in Europe and NA.

- Germany: The game failed to hit the 100k milestone within its first 12 months on the market.
- UK: The debuted at no. 4 in the combined format ranking. The game's sales should be somewhere between 16,733 and 23,763 units (thanks BrunoMB!), representing a 95% boost compared to MH3U. The second week saw a drop to no. 12, with a 68% drop. The third week saw a drop to no. 20.
- France: MH4U debuted at no. 2 in France, behind TLOZ Majora's Mask 3DS and ahead of Evolve PS4. The following week saw it hold on to the no. 2 spot, behind The Order 1886. The third week saw it drop out of the top 5 as DB Xenoverse and Dying Light launched.
- Spain: In Spain, MH4U was the second best selling game of February, behind TLOZ Majora's Mask 3DS and ahead of The Order 1886. In March, it dropped out of the top 10.
- US: In February, the game sold over 290k units physical and digital per Nintendo PR, and landed at no. 10 in the monthly ranking for February. In March, it dropped out of the top 10.

That all I can find on MH4U, hopefully it paints a bit of a picture of MH4U's performance in the West.

Edit: One more thing: The following leak from NPD insider Creamsugar puts MH4U at 278k after March, which is for the unbundled physical-only sales.

Feel free to celebrate if you want, nothing stopping you...

Personally speaking western long term numbers are more interesting for me but it seems MHW will do as good as a PS4 game in Japan can realistically could so that's nice of course. Personally I think we are months away from making a definitive call on the success of MHW and a big part of this will be the portable continuation of the series since then we can then actually talk about expanding the audience rather than replace the audience, which has often been the case for the series in the past.

With the reports of day one discounts, used copies and available stock even with the lower than expected shipment, I don't know. Does not sound fantastic, but of course I'm no expert and it's only the first day.

Doesn't mean anything, really. Switch consoles in France, for example, have been sub-€300 for the longest time, not because the consoles weren't selling - they are - but because of retail chains battling for the consumers' attention. There will always be strange occurrences like people trading stuff in the very same day, and from what I gather in this thread the size of this phenomenon doesn't seem to be exceptional or anything for MHW, so I don't think we should worry about either of those things.

Japan's retail gaming structure is different than the states. They don't adhere to MSRP like we do, these kinds of "sale prices" are very commonplace with new releases.

No it's not

Unless you want to be the new ioi

Great argument.

You cannot say that. The game is available/unavailable depending on the store, the sell-through is good but we cannot say yet that the first shipment went out of stock. Do you believe that the game has a >90% sell-through ?

Thats whats being reported pages ago. The % we get in these threads is at the end of the week, so could include multiple shipments no?

Pokken may turn out to be a serious franchise. It's going to blow the first one out of the water.

I think a Pokken 2 could flirt with 4m as a fighter
If they add an actual story mode. More resources could be devoted to it now that it can sell.

and maybe I'd stop hating on it.

Looks like Pokken is having really nice legs, let's hope its shortage issue will be resolved asap.
The original Pokken never sold its initial shipment. Switch port has already outsold it and continues very strong. With Nintendo looking satisfied from its performance and DLC coming this game will keep going on for a long time.

Mario Kart 8 and Pokken bode well for upcoming Wii U ports and the sales they will get.

I think the contention is that there are, besides reports of sell-outs in some stores/Chains, also reports of availability. The term 'out of stock' that you used might suggest general full sell-out rather than sell-out at select places.

I, for one, couldn't give a damn if it's close to selling out or is actually selling out country-wide, and I don't think it's a topic to create an argument about.

In his defense, he said close to 1 million, which could be 750k depending on your definition of close.

Personally, don't think FFXV will ever hit the mark on XB.

is it wrong for me to hate Pokken DX for existing. and still getting DLC on top of that? there's some things I wished they fixed but now I feel it's gonna take longer thanks to this game

Pokken 2 is highly likely to happen. Not only that it has shown great sales potential, but there's a lot of room for development growth in the game with a variety of Pokemon that are still yet to be added. Also, for a Pokemon spin-off, it's one of the few that really did well so TPC must be very eager to continue the series.

We have enough preliminary data and observations to make *some* initial conclusions about Japan.

You can't use amazon rankings and twitch viewings from launch day to claim investors are going to be thrilled about world wide sales.
