Even though I have already platinumed both the vanilla game and dlc, I will definitely play this week when we get an influx of new players. It's so goddamn good and this is the perfect reason to jump back in.

Just killed the Orphan (what I used to consider the hardest boss for me) on the first try for the first time with this whirligig saw. Could this be a sign? That I was meant to use this weapon all along?

The plot thickens with every boss I defeat with it...

I asked in another thread but I'll probably get more help here.

I just (finally decided to pull the trigger) bought the Old Hunters DLC and my save is on either NG+ or NG++. Should I start a new character for the DLC or just go for it? I mean, I'm up for a challenge but I don't want to be fighting with the DLC for weeks on end.

If you are sufficiently high level on your existing save file then it's doable but will be challenging. If you haven't done a ton of grinding then it's best to make a new character and then go forth preferably prior to
Wet Nurse boss fight
.

According to wiki article the first boss in the DLC has 16658 HP on NG and 26737 HP during NG+ (don't have the value for NG++). As it is, it's perhaps one of the hardest bosses in the game and will bend you over. So, use thy best judgement.

It's the stuff like that that makes me want to play the game offline. That and all of the fatty "jokes." It destroys my immersion and just seems like something a 13 year old would find hilarious. No offense meant.

When (and what level) is the best time to start the DLC?
If NG: after (or before, if you don't want the
Hunter's Dream on fire
constantly) Mergo's Wet Nurse.

If NG+: as soon as it's unlocked.

I hear ya. Though I'll give it that, at least this one is creative and got a chuckle out of me. I also liked one that said "Don't you dare look at me!" placed on the statue's nether regions. The "tongue but hole" or "try thrust" in Souls games are really lame though.

I'm playing through Bloodborne for the first time right now. Unfortunately, I think I may have over leveled. I haven't grinded, but I've been to several optional areas and I've been religious about returning to Hunter's Dream when I have enough souls to level. At level 63, I beat Shadow of Yharnam on the 1st try. 2 levels later, and I just beat Rom, The Vacuous Spider on the 3rd try. General consensus seems to be that these 2 fights are hard. I think the problem is I did 3 optional bosses in between Vicar Amelia (whom I struggled against) and Shadow of Yharnam.

Here are videos of the fights:
Shadow of Yharnam - https://youtu.be/OerFlDGXRZQ?t=751
Rom, the Vacuous Spider - https://youtu.be/RHfmcEfkusc?t=370

So yea, either I'm over leveled or I got lucky on these 2 fights. I do think what I got away with @14:02 in the Shadow of Yharnam fight was pretty suspect.

You're at a good level, I wouldn't worry about it too much. A lot of guides on the internet like ign will recommend lvl 60 for the forest and Shadow of Yharnam. The game's difficulty ramps up after Rom so your level will be useful there.

This game needs to come out on PSN like now ......... Just realized my old disc wont work at installing the game, so i can't even check on my old characters to make sure they are still where I thought they are. I was going to do a quick run through the game again with a new character, but now I can't even play it. I think theres only 3 game slots and I know 2 of them should be taken by a Maria build, and a level 60 bowblade bloodtinge build. I remember using the whirligag but I don't know if I have a character setup for it or not, or i just respecced one of my other creatures. I tried catching up on some of the lore withe vaati videos, but the very first one he goes into how he's going to come back to the endings and support his theories on them but then i dont see a video of those lol.

I got a message pointing at one of those statues saying "Seduction ahead, but you must accept tastiness". It's a pretty underrated message if I must admit. My highest rated one is one suggesting sending the old lady to the clinic.

Nothing will ever top the hype for this game. I need a sequel now. I'm starting a new character on March 10th, for the Return to Yharnam event.

I love the souls series. I played Bloodborne game when it came out, in fact it was the sole reason I bought another PS4 after selling my old one! I didn't get very far through, only to
Dark beast Paarl, after doing Witch of Hemwick
before I got my arse kicked and never went back to it. Not sure why but the game didn't click with me right away.

I started a new play through about two weeks ago and I am the one kicking arse now. I'm just got to
Micolash boss in Nightmare of Mensis
It's funny because this time I have fared way better, maybe I was just burnt out before after DSII then DSII SOTFS being so close to release.

Game is awesome anyway. Don't give up, Hunter!

I did it on NG+ (lvl 120 or 140, not sure. it was long ago). It was hard but not immpossible and im not souls pro. Try it few times, if its no go, than make a new character.

The Tonitrus is my favourite arcane weapon. It degrades quickly but it shreds enemies. The only weapons that aren't much use with arcane are Chikage, Rifle Spear, Reiterpallasch, Beast Claws, Blades of Mercy and the Burial Blade. All the others work fine but are better with gems. A Saw Cleaver with fire gems will destroy beasts. Then there's the extras like Executioner's Gloves which destroy fatties.

hey thanks for the response. I did a little digging after my message and I now got the tonitrus +5 and it does a lot of damage compared to my level 3 Saw cleaver I kept from the beginning ahah. Now I just need to find good gems

Tonitus, like the wheel, is more of a STR/ARC than just plain ARC. It does good early because of the ARC buff but it falls down at the end if you don't also buff your STR to atleast 25.

Good thing about ARC is that you can gem regular weapons and make them really good for enemy weakness. Downside is that it requires gem farming lol

Yep, the game looks amazing as well as playing amazing. I took this photo of it on my 55" tv back in early January to see how my new backlight looked with the game. Loved playing it with the different colors.

I'm curious, LG OLED owners, what settings do you use for the best colours / pictures? I'm liking the look of Vaati Vidya's Bloodborne vids which seem way better than mine...

Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah I've followed most of those tips in earlier attempts. Still kept dying because of unfortunate missteps. I'll try to stack on thunder papers. And most importantly, be more patient.

Which weapons did you end up using against it btw. Ludwig's Holy Blade is my go to weapon. Wish I had the lightning mace but didn't find it yet. And debating if I should go find it first before going in for another attempt.

I used the Tonitrus in its charged form but mostly because I had picked it up already at that point. I'm sure there's a slight advantage, but like most things Souls/Bloodborne, the strategy is what counts. I don't think the slight increase in damage will make or break the fight for you if strategic mishaps are what's doing you in is what I mean by that.

Especially in Bloodborne, I always go with my favorite weapon since they're all perfectly viable. I beat Rom's much harder Chalice Dungeon version with the Threaded Cane, pimp style.

Thanks for the advice Ferrs , but having looked into them, the HMS and Buzzcut aren't for me.

ERA! Help!

If a True Gentleman uses the Threaded Cane to swot beastly mobs back to the hellhole from whence they came, what accompanying weapon would such a dapper chap use as backup?

Chromatic aberration toggle

would make this game perfect.

You know, while I would like for there to be an option to turn off the CA in games that have it by default, this is one of the few games I feel it works. Probably due to the setting and nature of the atmosphere.

I loaned out my disc to my brother. What happens if I add the digital version to my library. The game is still installed but would I need to re-install to play it without the disc? I also have the old hunter dlc.

Unsure of what to do in the game at the moment, I decided over the weekend to start grinding a few more weapons up to +10. Now that I'm online, I got some glyphs for a blood rock chalice and an easy blood stone chunk chalice. I got Beast Claws up to 10, so I've been playing with those, and my next target is the Beast Cutter. Not sure what my end game is, except to get every weapon maxed out, I guess. Then to get tons of high level gems. Then to PVP and get my face smashed in anyway, probably.

I loaded it up for the first time in two years yesterday and felt slightly disoriented with my level 81 character.
I'll just repeat from scratch and start a new play through next week. :)
