This is a delightful game full of charm. Wasn't sure on the cap idea when it was announced but it really is fantastic. It's great to play as some of Mario's enemies and their unique abilities to help you around the levels. It's great fun. Definitely my fave Mario since 64. But as I've said before, just being able to play it on a normal (the Pro pad is just great to game on and very comfy) controller, with almost sans waggle gimmicks, is a revelation. It's the true successor to 64.

The Luncheon kingdom is a stain upon this great game.

It's ugly, buggy (you can accidentally stop being a fireball too easily during some of the later platforming parts), and has a bad boss fight.

I think Nintendo knew that it was trash, which is why they put it before some of the best looking areas of the game. I can dig that they were go for a low-poly style with some of the design there, but it just felt like the level that they didn't get around to polishing, and it stuck out more due to the awesomeness before and after it.

luncheon is my favorite kingdom in the game, loved everything about it. some really nice platforming sections in there and the fireball transformation was awesome.

Now sitting at 71/89 moons and 93/100 coins in Sand Kingdom and starting to run out of ideas of where to look lol

I have the Bowser amiibo so that helps for these coins. My last coins there were in the extra jaxi course i somehow never found. I only realized today they could run on purple lava. There are also 3 coins cleverly hidden in a 2D section in the inverted pyramid.

Still have quite a few open moons in that kingdom too, doing cleanup there now as well. I scoured the level pretty thoroughly, but clearly not enough. The postgame fireflower challenge there was pretty cool.

I can see why Luncheon Kingdom isn't everyone's favourite - stylistically it's rather plain - but it has some stand out highlights. The Hammer bros' sections are a cathartic delight after decades spent cursing the very existence of those hammers. This is central to Odyssey's appeal actually: handing power to the player to control the very things that tormented them in the past. World also features another maligned baddie-turned-goodie, Fireball. It's a double whammy.

Out of all the outfits, I keep going back to Cowboy Mario.

It's just so damn solid.

The concept of Luncheon Kingdom never quite gets there; I had imagined massive pieces of food to climb, huge kitchens and stove tops to avoid. I'm a sucker for "shrunken down" gameplay, Toy Story 2, Micro Machines etc so it just seemed like a tarted up 3D Land level to me.

I thought you guys said the post game content was good? This is weaker than post game 3D World for sure.

3D World's post game is pure gaming bliss

I'm having a blast with Odyssey's post game though, it's scratching my platforming itches on a much more consistent basis which makes the exploration bits hit more with me as a change of pace

Agreed. I just got there yesterday. Really love this world. Not a bad thing to say about any of the game. Can't wait to see more.

Freaking Wooded Kingdom is so awesome. I keep going back thinking I've done it all and it gets expanding. So many corners and areas and challenges I didn't know about. Just noticed today I missed
where peach is at. So I went to find her and ran across at least four different challenges and reached a new area and found a new shortcut. This game is a forever game. It just keeps giving.

I would have preferred a realistic "miniature" aesthetic, similar to how Paper Mario: Color Splash handled its kitchen/food.

Loving this game so far, at least on par with BotW, I still have a few hours left, my only complaint, I think is lacking a little bit in the OST deparment.

That music in the Wooded Kingdom is so good. It hits me in so many different ways. The funky organ reminds me of The Doors, the musical riff itself reminds me of David Wise's work on Tropical Freeze, and the 8-bit version of the theme hits hard like an NES Mega Man title. The music in this game has been the most pleasant surprise. All of it is just top notch.

So post game question, about Moons in shops.

I read that there's no limits to the number of Moons you can buy, is that true?! I spent so much on the things I thought I was about to reach the limit (I'm at 716 Moons atm.).

So I was running around in just cappy + boxers in the snow kingdom, just because I couldn't afford the local costume the first time I visited the shop. Some Shiveria dude gave me a moon for that.... This Game. <3

Once you can buy moons in the post game there is absolutely no limit on how many you can buy. You can buy up to 999 if you wanted. This is actually the only way to achieve 999 moons, as there are only 880 normal mission moons in the game.

----

I've totally completed Cascade, Lake, and Cloud, and have gotten nearly everything in Cap, Sand, and Wooded. Just kind of making my way through the levels in post game now to try to see what I can get without help, and then move on before I get sick of the area. I'll clean them up on a second run through I think.

Has anybody else had an issue where the capture a fork and it defaults itself to a position pointing in a direction you don't want to go but you can't seem to get it unstuck? This has happened to me multiple times no matter if I play docked or handheld.

Yeah, and it's not even the backgrounds for me. Because of that thing where the dynamic resolution affects moving objects, it's makes Mario look worse than he does in 3DS games lol. It's so weird.
This is just hyperbole guys. It doesn't look the best, but you really need to replay your 3DS sometime

In the process of 100%ing Lake Kingdom. I love how relaxing and beautiful this little level is. It also has a reasonable, not overkill amount of moons.

This, to me, is where the game really gets good, Kingdom wise. The previous ones are my least favorites in the game (Wooded, Sand, Cascade).

The only thing I hate about luncheon kingdom is the fireball powerup, becuase is finicky as fuck with its hitbox.
I thought the kingdom was great, it looked great, the music of the town is great and the boss one of the most fun ones.

That happened to me at the WORST possible place in the game (location's a spoiler) and pissed me off to no end

Haha, I admit that's probably going too far. It's just frustrating. Maybe it's cause that screen's smaller but it felt like there was less aliasing on Mario in 3D Land. Like it looks great when you pause and zoom in and stuff but when he's running around he just seems like a little red and blue smudge.

I have played more koopa freerun in the lake kingdo, and also tried my luck in the luncheon kingdom. Managed times below 21 seconds on both and I'm quite pleased so far. Although there is still room for improvements in both runs:

Since I was wearing a certain expensive costume, I have spoilered my videos.

Is there btw some switch video capture thread? Or only for Odyssey?

Reading up on what's required for 100%, I think this is finally the Mario game that's too much for me. Maybe I'll chip away at it over time.

It's interesting how much the difficulty of the Koopa free running varies from kingdom to kingdom. You'd expect them to get harder as they go along, but Bowser's castle and the one that comes after that have been mysteriously easy.

I had issues pulling off some jumps in order to succeed in the Wooded and Lake kingdoms.

Anyway I think the true biggest news about this game is that Hammer and Fire Bros. have hair.

I was not prepared for this revelation.

Man, Wooded Kingdom might be my favorite right now. I'm sure my favorite will keep changing again and again as time goes on, but this kingdom is so well put together. So many different ways to get around. Shortcuts, secrets, great platforming, great high flying leaps, really fun moon placement, great music, great use of ambience. It's constantly folding in on itself and expanding. The more you play it the more you realize what's there, making it feel huge, but there's so many ways to get from point A to point B quickly that it's never tedious and you can really shrink the space down when you know how it's all laid out.

Lot's of kingdoms in the game are built like that, but Wooded seems to really nail it.

This game has hella content right? I'm digital only on the switch so if I'm going to drop 60 on it, it better last me quite a while.
Yes and no. The kingdoms themselves are relatively small but there are a lot of collectibles. So if you enjoy collecting things and if you enjoy traversing the kingdoms you'll sink a lot of time into it. If that doesn't interest you than there won't be a lot for you to do.
