You guys need to start using spoiler tag instead of the hide ones... I'm way too lazy to start quoting posts to see them lol

Are the people that already have 100% using Talkatoo and Hint Toad, or are they doing things blind?

I'm getting there in some kingdoms, but some have been pretty tricky.

So, I've been lingering in the Seaside Kingdom, but now I feel I can finally leave:

1.) I had been stuck on 85 volleys for the second volleyball moon. Then I randomly got 434. That was a surprise.

2.) I was able to reach the Secret Path to Bubblaine moon on the Diving Platform without using the associated painting!
By possessing a jet squid, taking it up the pillar where the Stone Pillar Seal was, refreshing the squid's water level using the moon there, and jetting up and forward toward the Diving Platform, there is just enough juice to reach the edge of the platform, jump out of the squid transformation, and grab the platform ledge where the moon lies.

I really love a good sequence break.

I used Talkatoo a lot near the end, I didn't consider it cheating as I saw it similar to the text hint given to you for each star in SM64.

I'm at 720+ and have been using Talkatoo a ton and Hint Toad when there's less than 5 moons left.

Personally I could be given a ton of time to just comb the levels and still miss them so I feel like it's pretty necessary without losing my mind. Toad specifically is actually not as bad as I thought, in a lot of levels even seeing the X on the map, a lot of the more vertical parts still require exploration, it just narrows your search a lot.

It's not cheating, but it is part of the sliding scale of help factors. The SM64 analogy is pretty good in some circumstances, but also a dead-giveaway of where to go in others.
Yeah... For example I'm 11 moon short in the Sand Kingdom... Went to the damn parrot and he told me "Yo... Captain Toad has a moon".... Yeah no shit, I know that... I just don't know where he is! lol

It's funny you mention that moon specifically, because Talkatoo's description of it allowed me to find him. Many of the moons' descriptions are giant hints for their locations.

Don't worry, I also didn't realize what the hint meant until I saw the moon itself, haha. It's actually a really good title.

But yeah, the names vary from great ("Bullet Billding" <3) to not helpful at all (One of the billion "nut" moons or the Timer Challenges that aren't descriptive of their location at all)

Yeah, I really enjoy an open world game that lets me explore on my own but then also gives me the opportunity to narrow down my search. I dunno about y'all but it's nice to not have to dedicate two hundred hours to scour every nook and cranny.

Got to New Donk City last night. This is better than I could have ever imagined. Was so skeptical about this area when it was first revealed. I wish I could take back every doubt. This game. It just keeps improving.

Another tip for people struggling with that final Broodal fight:

If you don't mind the trip back, the Royal Heart regenerates after every fight. So you can max out your health between every battle if you want and have patience

So the world specific items (except costumes) like stickers are just for decoration and add nothing to the game, right?

Just completed
Secret 2D Treasure
and it's simultaneously one of the best and one of the most infuriating Mario levels of all time.
The first where you have to stay aligned with the 2D background and avoid the bullet bills is amazing. But the controls when you're walking around the the circular platforms towards the end? Who designed those controls? So unintuitive!

Don't jump to avoid getting hit. Just take the hit and get to the next one.

Beat the game last night, and yes, the ending sequence is one of the best endings of all games

I wish you could turn the visuals and audio off for moons you've already found. That's the only thing bugging me as I clean up the remaining moons in each kingdom.
Ditto! Just remove the glowing stuff or change its color. Make it easier to know that you already got a Moon that is going to appear. Put marks over NPCs that give them to you. Red X's over ground buried ones. Change the color of the scarecrow dummy when you already did his challenge. Stuff like that.

I won the Tostarena slot machine in NDC on the 3rd attempt, really glad that didn't take longer.
Wait, you guys had trouble with the slot machines?

I got all of them on my first try. Literally just stand right in front of each one and throw Cappy as it's about to reach the moon symbol
Yeah, I found them super easy. Just throw it when the heart is about to change.

Speaking of scarecrows. I'm having a tough time finding the Poochy hidden Moon in the Wooded Kingdom. The hint photo shows a location I remember being at (It's where the scarecrow opens a door to an area where you get a Moon without the help of Cappy) but I spent an hour running all over the place trying to find it again!!! Argh!!!

There are 100 coins, you can see the totals by pressing select and then Y. The last 3 for me where hanging off a ledge near the waterfall that goes over the edge near where you race Koopa and Dorie is, not saying it will be the same for you but that was the last three for me.
I actully love you. Thanks!!

Just 100%'d the game.

Unfortunately...
The Dark Side/Darker Side were really easy and super anticlimactic, especially considering how good Mario bonus levels have been in the last 10 or so years. Really disappointed. I was gonna consider this my favorite Mario title, but not after that. Definitely still belongs to Galaxy 2 and 3D World

I must be crazy because I had this preloaded, played maybe an hour, then bought Assassin's Creed Origins and basically didn't touch Mario since. I'm kinda excited jumping back in. Am I missing anything playing in portable mode?

It doesn't run as well and looks a tad worse compared to docked according to reports. I went docked just for Mario.

This game is absolutely wonderful. Exploring all these environments and searching for the Moons is giving me major Mario 64 vibes. One quick question, though. Is it possible to get all the Moons on one level before moving on to the next? This isn't what I'm doing, but I'm just wondering if it's possible.

I'm around 650 moons and I think I'm going to take it easy so that completing it doesn't become a chore. Probably going to intertwine it with Stardew Valley sessions.

No, for two reasons:

#1 - Not all of the moons listed in your list are accessible to you during your first visit
#2 - There are many moons in each kingdom that aren't added to your list until much later (so as a made up example, that kingdom whose map screen lists 27 moons... actually has 47 etc)

Angola / Zaire border region.
A thought I just had this morning about a potential spin-off for this game a la Captain Toad. [POST-GAME SPOILERS]

Playing around with Yoshi in the Mushroom Kingdom, and then also in the Luncheon Kingdom (I think) on another post-game "moon rock" challenge, I really want Odyssey to get a Captain Toad style spinoff full of just Yoshi-based platforming and other challenges. Yoshi controls really well, and a couple more options to flesh out his moveset could easily support a Captain Toad sized game. Just let it be proper Yoshi instead of a captured version, and maybe give the game a softer art style.. playing as Yoshi in a 3D space is just too fun to be limited to the small role that he has in Odyssey!

So I got all 999 Power moons and all 1000 purple coins a couple of days ago and decided to play through it again and take time re-visiting the areas and clearing out as much as I can from memory before moving onto the next world and somehow the game's even better on the second playthrough. Just nabbing moon after moon in rapid succession is really fucking satisfying.

If you were wondering what the next 2D Mario could do different after Mario Maker, Odyssey has your answer.

I could easily do with an entire game based around that 2D/3D idea. Such a clever concept.

Please stop posting the final boss 3 minutes after the game comes out :)

A bit of odd timing since we didn't post anything directly boss or ending related for Odyssey at all, but please DM or tweet me if you'd like to discuss this further to keep the thread on topic

Can someone please tell me how the hell to get a certain Art related Moon?

The freaking Top Hat Moon. I know where it is but it's not there! I have ground pounded the entire hill on that damn bridge. I have lined up the stupid hat tower with the giant moon. All the guides online have no screenshots of the exact location and just tell you to pound the ground near the railing. Fuck this shit. Someone give me a screenshot of the exact location. I GIVE UP!
