This is actually why I'm leaning towards Team Port -- after how long Brawl and Smash 4's hype cycles, it's hard to imagine an entirely new Smash to reveal its entire roster within the span of a year, especially since this'll certainly be revealed at E3. We haven't had that since Melee.
Of course, I know this has potentially been in development for two years, but still. Maybe it's that I don't want to see any cuts, and I know Lucas will lead that pack.
Now that you mention it, having such a short hype cycle for a new Smash seems weird.
Am I the only one okay with roster cuts? Aside from the O12, there aren't a lot of characters I would mind seeing get replaced especially for franchises like Pokemon and Fire Emblem with a lot of possible characters. Replace Ike with Camilla (a redesigned SFW Camilla) and someone like Greninja with Decidueye.
Cut ROB, replace with Goku (Naruto is played out at this point and isn't as popular)

I love Robin and Ike! Radiant and Awakening are my favourite games in the series. Lucario is my Smash main. That being said, if some characters are obstacles to the inclusion of some others then I don't mind losing a favourite to a)have someone new to try and b)having someone else get a rep they really wanted.
Hey, Robin is fantastic. I actually love that they had you play a character who was first and foremost a tactician. Plus his design is great.

But anyway it simply takes less time/effort to put in a veteran character versus a brand new one and you don't risk pissing people off, so I just don't see that happening.

You have to get used to the fact that people doesn't give a fuck about other people. That's why I always dislike the cut because I can see how it affect some fans to see their favorite characters getting cut, like Jawmuncher, EskimoJoe, and many Wolf users.
i just realized i can keep saying "who" for another year+ because people are going to be asking for their nerdy obscure faves that nobody has ever heard of

Dixie Kong seems like the most important/well known character no one asks for. Think i'd prefer he over Rool or any of the DK's extended family and friends.
Don't look at it like that though. For every fan upset Marth was cut for Ryoma, you have a fan excited to have Ryoma in the game. Marth has a legacy in Smash. Why not give some new characters a shot?
I've had at least one of my favorite characters cut from a Smash every single time (cept Melee, obviously). With Brawl, I lost Doc, Roy AND Mewtwo. Smash 4, I lost Wolf.
I'm not losing Doc, Roy or Mewtwo again. I don't want those three to be random "will they or won't they" appear characters every single game.

That trailer was fucking incredible. As soon as I saw that CG style I was like "This is Smash??!??!?!!" The plain backdrop, the non-assuming action sequence, the moment when it's like Oh Fuck. These fakeouts don't usually get me because I can smell Smash coming a mile away, but I still love the hell out of them.Just utterly excellent. Welcome, Inklings! Can't wait to see how they play.

I actually haven't heard anything from his side of things outside of his retweet of the trailer.

All those other games also had gameplay trailers. This was a teaser trailer which is an upgrade compared to earlier Smash games. Those were announced without anything.
I think it would be strange of them to drop this announcement in a random E3 direct just to sit on further information until that event. Why not just announce it there if that was the plan? I suppose it could have been to appeal to people disappointed with Switch's first half lineup, but I think it would be cool if they capitalized on the Instant Hype Inferno they've caused today.

If literally any single character is cut from Smash 4/5 + DLC, I will eat hats, pants, and sweater vests all stir-fried together and topped with socks.
Especially Ike and Bayonetta.
I just can't see Bayonetta getting cut, not with Nintendo propping up Bayo 3.
