I managed to oversleep and missed the second wave of my base defense. I had no one assigned to defend the base, so I loaded up the game expecting the worst. Turns out, the wave went off without much of a hitch and I only lost some defensive structures and one patch of corn for it. Got an S rank for the ordeal and now I have some horse and wolf farm structures. Woo!

So what is everyone's favourite cassette/ track in the game? For me it's this dark 80s synth song with the vocals. Name, pls.

Edit: It's "Phantom Pain" lol. Have spent over 200 hours in MGSV, never heard that track.

That's for the advice guys! It worked and I'm coming out all postives now because of the base digger. Going to try the third soon, and hopefully recruit the last 4 members.

Anyone else finding a new appreciation for the old mgs songs? Heaven's Divide has been something i've been humming for a few days now, it almost always plays first for me when I log in.

Even though I've played past MGS games here and there, I never paid attention to the music.

Now that I'm playing this game, I've heard many great songs. Currently, my playlists consists of these songs:

Snake Eater
Everything Ends
Calling to the Night
Egoism 440
Evans
Contra - Jungle
Gradius - Challenger 1985

I'm sure there are many other great ones. Will switch back to All Music and give a listen.

Checked my playtime and I'm at 80 hours. Probably the quickest 80 hours I've spent on a game.

Just finished an S rank on Hard and got my Legendary Bow:

pvsdl.jpg

I also have the RPA arrows and a small RPA quiver. Haven't tried it yet but may craft a few of them to see how they are.

Currently level 53. Still need to try the daily/weekly but I don't want the anger that comes from getting an S and then an error right after, lol.

I only seem to get network connection errors just as the salvage missions I am playing are about to end. Really frustrating.

Ooh, I'm jealous, I'm still rockin' that blue bow. But I got a silenced sniper rifle for beating Bigmouth which is great for dealing with Mortars in Co-Op.

Wanted to see how the RPA arrows are.

Put them in a straight line and watch them fall! The arrow also went through an armored enemy.

Remember, always activate faster dig at the start of each wave. Cost 5000 KUB to do so. Go up to the digger, hold A, and you'll see the option.

I've been in a few games where people forget or don't know about it. Really important for getting that S.

Once you activate it, it'll keep digging fast, unless the enemy reaches the radius of the main digger or directly attacks it. Not 100% sure which is it, but one of these 2 things will stop the digging. If you keep them at bay throughout the whole wave, you won't have to worry about reactivating it.

Another small tip, plant a wormhole generator near the main digger in case you need to teleport back to defend it/reactivate it. Or you can place one near the support digger for the same reason. You can even use your teammates wormhole generator if they planted one.

From 'quake area to big OH.
I was so close to seeing what would happen if I attacked the big creature early in the game with a Walker Gear. While shooting the durability went caput and blew up.

Without spoilers, can you damage it early on? I'm still on chapter 13.

Update 1.04 is Now Available

Update 1.04 for METAL GEAR SURVIVE has been deployed along with maintenance updates which includes:

NEW CO-OP Rescue Missions.

  • The objective of Rescue Missions is to evacuate Charon Corps survivors who have gone missing after failing a Salvage Mission. Make use of the terrain as well as your Interceptor and Defense units to secure a safe escape route, while thwarting hoards of enemies.
Rescue Mission Event:

  • "The Captive Ferrymen." Play the event to earn standard CO-OP rewards (e.g., Kuban energy, resources, recipes), as well as Battle Points (BP) which will unlock other rewards as you accumulate more BP.
Other content updates:

  • Added controller customization features
  • Speeding up the digging of the Wormhole Digger will be reflected on personal score
  • Added new plan to Base Camp Dig
  • Added enhancement items for weapons and gears (Legendary)
  • Bug fixes and game balance changes
*Please refer to the patch notes in game for further detail on the update. *The deployment schedule may differ by region and/or platform.

ooo update!!

I managed to get an hour last night after a week of newborn hell :D Still playing the story, currently hacking my way toward completing chapter 18, moving your way through the second map is really a massive change of pace especially as someone who is happiest procrastinating and exploring :)

I have a day free today so maybe will force myself to try and complete the story while I'm able.

Will see about trying out some of the multiplayer again tonight. I've learned that trying during the day during the week isn't really workable on Xbox in Europe, just not enough people around at the time.

It's really sad that so many people are passing on this game based on YouTubers and reviewers who went in wanting to hate the game and then based negative reviews on less than 2 hours of playing the game. There's so much more here than most people realise, and when you actually play through the storyline it completely fits in with the wider Metal Gear Solid storyline too. The craziness isn't even remotely out of place when you look at some of the other insane shit that's gone on in the series. Hell, you practically had nanomachine zombies in Metal Gear Solid 4 already.

I'll admit to not being a massive MGS lore follower, but I'd agree lagamorph, sure the story is nuts, but I've thought that about just about every other MGS game.

Can't help but think SoT on the 20th may have an effect on the population as well, especially since its on gamepass so it's reasonably cheap to try it at least. I'm on XBL sporadically so if you see me please gimme a prod, always game to team up, and given all my RL friends are on PSN it'll be a rare treat for me to group with non pugs.

Just took a look at the rewards you can get from earning battle points from this new event....

Material/weapon/gear cases and they increase in rarity the higher up the list you go. You'll see some revival pills and SV coins on the list, too. They start at 200 BP for an uncommon weapons case and go up to 80,000 BP for a legendary material case.

Also, there's an epic accessory for your head you can unlock, which is a cardboard box! Lol so silly but I want it.

I believe there are other things you can purchase using BP but that menu isn't open yet.

Looking forward to trying out the new event later today.

They also changed the look of the letters for ranks. They look much better.

Also added "Quick Match: Normal" for the daily/weekly.

Aaand they also have rewards specifically for the daily/weekly. Daily can give you 5 rare material cases and 100k KUB and the weekly gives 3 legendary material cases.

There's something called acquisition status next to these. Daily says 0/1 and weekly 0/3 so I'm assuming you can earn the weekly specific rewards up to 3 times? But I don't know if you can earn them on normal AND hard, which would be great.

The new Rescue mission has it's own playlist. The first mission is a tutorial and enemies start at level 20.

In the SV shop, they added a 7 day boost that costs only 200 coins, but looks like you can only buy it once.

This is everything new I've seen so far.

it's actually hilarious to me how well Konami has been updating this.
Like how many patches are we on now? And remember when they did the rewards change, people didn't like it and they then changed rewards again like a day later?
It's funny that a "2/10 shit game" can get so many updates and some AAA 9/10 games take months for a patch.

edit: you can get the "base lvl 3" plan from base digs now.
oh wow you can now see your food buffs active and how long they last :D

I just noticed that too, it was confusing the hell out of me.

I also just noticed on Xbox when you empty a materials box you now press and hold "A" to return to the previous menu rather than "Y"

They certainly are putting effort into supporting it as well, I'm surprised TBH, like you say there are plenty of games which wouldn't change the rewards back so swiftly outcry or not.

Did the rescue mission tutorial this morning. I was not expecting the walking to be that damn slow. Not sure if the rescue missions are worth it though. The rewards are kinda crap.

Is there a list of the BP rewards for rescue missions? That might make it worth it.

Also, the rescue missions made me realize how absolutely stupid most players are when it comes to anything that isn't solely "kill everything".

I think it's cause you get good BP for them during the event.

Also the rescue missions are really fun, what a nice change from the regular tower defense

If you look in the "event overview" menu at virgil/the coop map select circle you can see the event rewards. all BP from rescue go into them

Yesterday I've made a grown man happy simply by placing oil-traps in the co-op lobby.
Going by his laughter it was the first time he experienced them.
Oil traps also fucked up our preparations in another session, because everyone wanted to join the sliding party. ;P

oil traps + spiked barricades/poles are beautiful
spiked stuff in general is great cause you can just throw enemies into them lol

Haha, yes. Yesterday I started a new class. I picked the hammer and used an iron tower to block a chocke point also throwing decoys in front of it, then I climbed up the tower and killed waves of zombies just spamming the aerial move or placing a machine gun on top of it.
This game is so much fun. Can't wait to get home to try out what's new.

Just before grabbing mini Lamptramp v1.0 from Kindergarten I managed to
get the Metal Gear and spank Seth
the defence section was getting a bit "half crown thrupenny bit" with 3 minutes to go before I realised I'd brought grenades as well as the Molotovs, blimey those mortars force you to prioritise your targets :)

It's probably the only section I've really used the guns as well aside from a pot shot here and there.

Not a bad bit of story in those sections too, nothing outstanding but serviceable enough :)

I have just finished the story. About 30 hours in and have been balancing story and side content/exploring and still feel like I am missing some of the higher level gear and base units. I still don't have any way to house animals. Am I missing something?

From memory the goat cages are found in a container in the clear area in the south eastern edge of the first map, not the container next to teleport 7(?) but the other side of the hill to its west.

I understood that other cages drop via base defense and MP, but of that I'm not sure.

Ha, the story is like half of the content - maybe even less in terms of weapons, gear, tools. You get most of the purple gear in the post game and there's still orange tier equipment. There're also two bosses. Tons of new recipes. I have put 100 hours into the game already and still haven't received the purple bow (damn you hispanicguy!!!!), electric fences, the blade traps and so on....

Lamptramp: yes goat cages can be obtained during the story. More cages are unlocked when you do base defense 2. Co-Op so far hasn't unlocked stuff for my base.

Damn, I am excited! The game is hooking me big time so I cannot wait to slowly accrue a arsenal.

Rescue missions are really fun and have quite the cool dynamic.
Frostbite floating around the map is cool as well, glad the bosses are showing up in co-op regularly now.

I look forward to getting Base lvl 3 and expanding, apparently there are new buildings as well.

Rescue missions definitely need a team that knows what to do though.
If you try to do a rescue mission and don't have at least one team mate escorting you while you're carrying the survivor you are fucked. Ideally you really need two whilst the third person stays around the digger/does side missions.

It's still funny how hated this game is.
I bet if we made a thread saying a new mode was released for it for free, people would immediately shit on it XD

I got that 7 day booster for 200SV coins now and I saw you can get a total of 150SV coins from the event. gonna try and get that during the 3 weeks. we'll seeee

Honest question: I played the single-player campaign when the game released, I'm not interested in the cooperative modes, the base defense or to get new gears, since it's a single-player title and I see no reason to get powerful weapons. I know there are two optional bosses (I didn't fight them but I saw a video on youtube), is there a reason to keep playing if you are not interested in the things I listed?
