I think flash pods could use some kind of nerf, they really trivialize hunting tempered elder dragons. When you have four experienced hunters constantly flashing them and bashing their skulls in, it feels like stomping on defenseless kittens :/

Making flash pods a % chance to flash an elder dragon successfully might bring a little balance, instead of being 100% surefire disable.

At the very least make them immune to flash when they are moving to other area. Tbh only Kushala and Teo people spamming flash and Teo only when he is supernovaing or switching area, Nergigante and Vaal don't fly at all.

Kushala really needs some rebalance imo, make him fly less and buff his ground moveset (maybe add back the ability to summon big Tornado via breath).

I guess I've been lucky so far, I unlocked tempered Vaal, fought him and after my 4th run I received a hero steamstone for my great sword which is my main, fought tempered Vaal some more and out of 14 more runs I've received another sword steamstone, an axe and a ranged, don't use the axe but I've been using the LBG a little and really like the Onigashima, workshop weapon tree. Yet to fight any other tempered elders.

Thank you. Truly Incredible. I have some grinding to do for things like mighty and sharp jewels, but will definitely run this build.

As promised... Gear, augmentations and decorations for hammer builds.

Seriously what is up with Vaal hitting so hard at random intervals when it looks like it is just turning around? There is no wind up to it, it just seems as though does a 180 to face another direction to attack and majority of the time this does nothing, but randomly just crushes you. It is not the head or tail dragging attack. I have 450+ defense and withstand almost every attack, sometimes multiples, except this. .

Are you looking for a blast build for SnS? You don't really need Zora to make it work. Critical status will not do any extra damage at all, it will only apply extra blast buildup when you crit.

Get yourself a Lumu Tabar III, Dragonking eyepatch, Zorah Hide beta, Zorah Claws beta and Zorah Spine beta, Kirin Leg Guards beta and Masters Charm III. I also use Apothecary Mantle with it for even faster blast build up. I will post blast build for SnS later today. It will give you Critical eye 7, Blast Attack 3, Free Element 3, Critical Boost 3, Weakness Exploit 3, Fortify and Critical Status. Really good and fun set to use. All my sets are end game so a lot of them will be heavy decoration wise but it something you can work towards to or keep it as a reference.

I know that gun. A fine weapon indeed. ^.^

A friend and I did the Kerin quest that unlocks the Hunter Rank cap past 49. I kept putting up sos's. But the brave souls that would join us kept dying. So I equipped my Palico with the hunting horn. Gotta love those buffs. It took time. But we finally killed the unicorn wanna be. I'm now ranked 61. Thanks for the help, everyone!

Switch Axe doesn't get enough love, I think it's fun.
I've played SA since Tri and this is probably my favorite version of it, just because they solved the biggest problem with the weapon:

There's actually a reason to use the axe instead of just the sword.

Now that reloading sucks and doesn't fill half of your bar, it's so much better to actually attack the monster with the other half of your moveset.

The problem with assigned missions is that decent players avoid them because they know they are a shitshow and they only attract poor players who are trying (and failing) to get past it because they refuse to solo it.
The same monster in an investigation yields much better partners.

I've noticed this a few times out of the many times I've done this fight. It inexplicably just does an absolute truckload of damage with this simple move. Another one that's hard to predict is a leap it does, long distance across the maps, lightning fast and hits like a truck. Anywho, no big deal, it ads a bit of spice to an otherwise fairly easy fight. Both of these absolutely maul, even you have 450+ armor as you write.

I failed the quest my first few times but eventually was able to beat it and become more comfortable fighting the tempered version again, I just took my time and didn't try to get greedy with my attacks. I was using the great sword so I would draw attack retreat then draw attack again, also threw in some shoulder tackle and slash attacks, just made sure to be very patient and wait for the openings. But still, those lightning strikes especially when it's enraged or on it's last legs are killer.

I've had awful luck with decorations. Swimming in gems and plates, but decorations? Nothing but trash.

Tempered Teostra is down. I'm kind of bummed because I carted once near the end and it was completely avoidable. I got overconfident when he was close to death and flashed him as he tried to fly back to his nest. He enraged, I fucked up and he fireballed my dumb ass. When I got back to his nest from the cart, I took him down in one hit (and two mega barrel bombs).

So yeah, don't get cocky.

I just hit HR49 and about to hunt you-know-what. I'm scared, guys. Send hugs.
Have you done HR Kirin before? (Non-tempered) You could always practice on him. Because it got more or less the same moveset and patterns, it just hits harder. Only thing I've noticed is tempered Kirin summons three rows of lightning whereas normal summons two. But they're just as easy to dodge.

If you got the materials, I recomment Xeno armor for thunder resist and blight immunity. Full stun immunity is almost mandatory here; it attacks hit so hard, you don't want to get stunlocked.

One of the rewards from the tempered Teostra investigation.

Earplug Jewel 3.

I already had 4 levels of earplugs from Bazel helm and coil.

My face now when Diablos screams at me:

You know...if join an SOS, then die. Cool, it's part of the game. Shit happens. We can still win.
If you die then leave the session...well fuck you. Now we're stuck with a monster whose health is still at max and down a player. On 15 minute missions this is an absolute pain.

Capcom has to do something about that and jewels. I'm stuck on Elementless mode. I'm getting one every 3 mission or so. Meanwhile my non-blade friend is getting sharpness jewels and my non-bow friend is getting piercing and bow charge. Same for the stones. They need to rework the logic to be a bit more distributive.

Honestly for me it looks cool, I'll forge a weapon based on what it looks like then work with it so I can make it viable to use.

That's fine, as focused as people (myself included) can get on optimization, nothing in the game actually requires it. As long as you're looking at your cool set and asking reasonable questions like, "What decorations and Charm make this actually work?" you'll always be fine.

One of my friends made this one (This is the Onigashima, right?) and can't seem to get used to it. What do you like about it?
Apart from being one of the best looking LBGs, if you stack the Close Range Attack mod three times the Spread Shot can give you up to 60 damage per shot. Of course that depends on your attack boost skill and weakness exploit skill.

Ok Lance pros I crafted the perdition's hand and starting to craft a guard and attack power set. What's the best way to dish out damage. Still seems to take a long time.

With the Lance's ability to stay right in the monster's face you should rarely stop attacking. Your counter/charge attack will also do more damage if it connects.

Utilize your silly running attack on downed monsters if you aren't aiming for a break or at a specific spot. You can oftentimes initiate the running attack and stay in the monsters feet (Raths for example) and will just continue 'running' in place dishing out damage until they stand up.

Anymore I prefer to spam the poke poke charge poke combo on a head or tail instead though.

Once you get the distance of each of your moves down, like the jump triple stab or the hops, you'll have a better time being relentless and stopping only to sharpen.

Awesome thanks for the right up. After reading that I think my problem is just my up time on poking the monster in the face. Just need to improve that and my counter strikes. I have a hard time getting counter strikes down.

Did the Tempered Odog and Vaal Hazak mission, "Summons from below" or something like that. Good ol' Odog gave me more trouble than Vaal did, honestly. Felt pretty good hammering away at the latter. I don't know exactly what caused it to happen, but I switched to Pandemonium's Root for elder dragon hunting and my golfswings now hit for about 290 damage.

I also have the Rocksteady Mantle now. Should prove a huge boon in future hunts. I'm looking at you Black Diablos.

Charge timing can take a little while especially because it also heavily relies on how familiar with the monster's moveset you are too. Finally clicking with the monster's moves is always a nice sense of accomplishment. That is when a counter style or an Evade style really shines.

Knowing the weapon in conjuction.... oooooh Lance is life indeed. Early on I couldn't really imagine wanting to use Lance on a faster monster like Odo or Tobi, or even a more heavily punishing one like Azure Rath. Now though, I can't imagine using it over other weapons for anyone. Except Bezel. Eff that guy.

Well and now Gunlance is my new love.

I thought I was done with this game after 120h. Like. I felt no desire to play.

Took a break, went to the gym and listened to the MHW OST on spotify every day for a week or so.

Then I came back, and holy shit, suddenly I'm at 250h.

I made a support HH gearset to help break the crown and streamstone grinding boredom a bit, ended up with max evasion range and almost max evasion window to fill up space. I'm not sure how to go back to whatever I had before, it's amazing. Like "you can dodge out of Rath's roar-and-fireball combo" amazing.

I feel naked without earplugs and evade extender. Shame the bazel stuff looks so ugly.
Bazel stuff looks ugly???? That's the worst opinion I've heard in a while. The lion themed helmet specifically looks sick as hell
damn, this game really pushes the team aspect after the story huh? because theirs no way that can be solo'd.
That's the kinda quest where I can't trust anyone but myself with. I think I would constantly be stressed for the other hunters to perform well
I love hunting Teostra if only for its theme. So good.

I do sorta dislike you can't capture elder dragons. From what I understand these elder dragons are, in lore terms, very powerful and potentially destructive monsters. Nergigante and Xeno, which attacks on sight, are a good examples of that. But Teostra, Kushala Daora and Vaal Hazak are perfectly happy to chill with you before you bash their heads in and that kind of stings. I'd rather had seen them as hostile to create that "kill or be killed" vibe. Now I feel like a douchebag for killing them when they haven't actually done anything wrong.
You should check the previous version of it. I think I preferred the older version by just a bit:

Jesus Christ, I didn't realize just how fast Azure Rathalos attacks in World until I tried fighting him without Flash Bombs in the Arena (I didn't realize they gave you 3 flash bombs until the end of the quest). Never again. I can't even imagine how fast he will be in G-Rank.

Is there any point to the xeno event quest?
If you're playing solo, it lets you farm Xeno without waiting for the quest to pop up.

I said this before, but that quest has to be the dumbest quest in the whole game. There's a reason you can get a B rank even if you beat it in 29 mins. Only ways I can imagine it being good are either two players with DBs (they get 6 flashes each) or just spamming wall-run attacks.
