Hey, I'm pretty down on these games due to stuff like Gen 1 only + not being able to actually battle wild Pokémon and stuff, but call it "lazy game design" is definitely not the way to go about that and in no way accurate. There's absolutely no doubt that lots of talented people worked incredibly hard on these games, regardless of if I personally like or agree with all the decisions they made. Whether I like the choices they made or not has absolutely nothing to do with the amount of effort that went into it, and calling it "lazy" game design is incredibly uncalled for as a result. No matter how much I may not like or agree with the choices they made, I'm positive that the team worked really hard on these games and gave it their all and I'm definitely not cool with calling or implying they're in any way "lazy" whatsoever. Find a much better way to phrase that, please, especially if you didn't mean to actually imply otherwise at all.

Okay it's fair that lazy was an exaggeration given how many people work hard on this.

But this definitely feels like a step backwards in some instances, or rather, a dumbing down of what is already a pretty simple RPG. I'm sure it'll sell millions and that kids will eat it up, but can't help feel like it's more of a cash grab to fill up the 2018 financial year before the "real deal" in 2019. Think about it, the fact it's based on gen 1, emphasing Go's success, the tile based movement and camera, the battle system. It all screams recycled ideas and content for the sake of slapping a game together quickly to get a product out. (And I used to work on a particular video game series that churns out multiple titles for kids year on year so I know how this cycle works lol).

So even though I've no doubt the artists behind the game are working hard, laziness from corporate, is highly probably.

Define "a lot of us". I think a lot (a LOT) more people play the games casually rather than focusing on breeding and the competitive aspect
A lot as in a sizeable amount. Obviously not the majority. Hell I'd bet the majority of Pokemon players have never even heard of EV's and IV's.

You know thinking about it I'm actually not that upset over the different capture mechanics. It could be refreshing to try something new.

Shame it's 151 only or I might have actually bought this.

I think I'm getting too ahead of myself here, but with the 2 player stuff, I seriously hope there's a place where you can basically play an HD version of Pokemon Stadium.

Wait so you can't evolve your starter Pokémon?

And only fighting trainers won't that mean after a while there won't be any more fights? Leveling up will be harder too unless thats gone too

When I say a lot of us I'm specially talking about Resetera long time Pokemon players. I'm well aware the vast majority of Pokemon players world wide don't play these games to competitively battle.

It's not that we wanted a whole new generation of pokemon and a new region, I love Kanto and i'm down for just having the original 151.

But the way the world looks in Pokemon Let's Go is vastly inferior to what it could've been, and if this is indicative of how Pokemon Gen 8 will look then yeah, i'll be disappointed.
This is obviously a stop gap game.

Gamespot employee told us that Masuda confirmed to them in a Q&A that the games do have online training and battling

there is. Theres just no ranked battles. Whole thing was just a mistranslation earlier

So... what exactly are we sure of?
Glad to hear some online functionalities will be in, but there is no VGC without ranked battle.

(Anyway, as an aside, I'm glad they apparently fixed the Pokemon colors. Gengar looks purple.)

Outside of the weird confusion about the online features (which I seriously hope are in!) and the unappealing chibi character models, I'm all in on these games. Looks like it'll be a fun nostalgia romp revisiting Kanto, and following/riding Pokémon is fantastic. Seriously, we get to fly on Charizard!

I'm not really opposed to the new catching mechanics, quite frankly I found the old system a bit tedious anyway. The battle system we all love is still present in the trainer battles anyway. Hopefully overworld encounters don't make finding rarer Pokémon more annoying.

I don't really get the anger towards these titles, especially when new core titles are coming next year. It's a win-win really. This year's titles are more focused towards lapsed fans and new Go players while offering fun fan service for longtime players (again, flying on Charizard!!), while giving Game Freak more time to make the next generation of Pokémon even better. If you don't like Let's Go, there's a game geared towards you coming not too long afterwards!

By the way, I'm so excited for the Poké Ball Plus. What a fun little accessory.

The official site states this:

https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-video-games/pokemon-lets-go-pikachu-and-pokemon-lets-go-eevee/

Not sure if that means no motion is required at all though.

My instinct was right on that one. They want to keep it casual but not stop thinking about their previous ways lol

The Pokéball Plus being $50 is icing on the cake.

Oh sh*t I didn't see that.
FIFTY. Seriously.
This is milking the cow better than that 1-2-Switch minigame.

They literally said...
please enjoy these while we work on the next pokemon games. Masuda even says during the conference that game freak is pouring all their heart and creativity into the next games.

yall need to calm down with the hot takes. or at least wait till next year to complain.

I agree with this.

By the way, does anyone else hate the art style (lack thereof) of this game? I mean, it make perfect sense, it looks like a mobile game, but for all the complaining I did over the washed out colors, I'm already starting to miss the 3DS artstyles.

With the usage of limited shades and the presence of outlines, it at least seemed like they were trying the best cel shading they could get out of the 3DS and going for the logical anime look, but Let's Go kind of looks, like plain 3D models?

Here's hoping it was a stylistic choice born of wanting to connect the game's look to GO, and Gen 8 looks more like Ni no Kuni.

Disappointed they aren't pushing for a BotW style RPG experience.

But will be able to play this on the sofa with my significant other, who is really into Go.

This is going to make Nintendo a lot of money.

This is so cool! I think I'll enjoy having a more casual Pokemon game to mess around in.

It'll be interesting to see how this impacts the future. Maybe we'll get alternating titles each year with Let's Go one year, then a hardcore RPG the year after, then another Let's go, etc.

Why would you not add wild battles in this game? What a missed opportunity, I would love a classic gen 1 game.

Yep. Your starter cannot evolve. It's really dumb.
You couldn't in yellow either. And, in Yellow, you couldn't even box your starter. Here, you can. You can also catch Pikachu and Evee and evolve them as normal.

But hey let's get totally angry because that's what the internet does.

I don't know why people are expecting a Switch controller that functions as a Pokemon Go Plus to be cheap. Remember, a Joycon is like $50 by itself. This probably has HD rumble on some level, gyro... For all intents and purposes it's a minimal Joycon with added functionality.

You could box pikachu in yellow, he even had a special line for it
Also you could get squirtle/charmander/bulbasaur with NPCs.

The speedrun for yellow boxes pikachu asap as that's the fastest strat

Is it wrong that as a person who grew tired of Gen 6 and 7's annoying ways that I'm excited for this, as it's been thrown here, "Baby's First Pokemon", then Gen 8 right now?

I mean, it seems less serious for sure, but something about it seems charming.

I'd want them to speak about Gen 8 before this release so we know the difference...but that ain't gonna happen!

For a moment I thought that was a gif of the new Switch game, the fact they're so close looking on such different hardware says a lot.
The Pokémon models were uncharacteristically high in polygon count by 3DS standards. This was done for future proofing. The gif you're seeing is running on an emulator that lets the models look how they would outside of a 3DS game.

I'm the last person who would defend random battles. But the way to go would've been a slider ala Bravely Default. Not that matters since you can't fight wild pokemon...lmfao.

Models are garbo though. Hate the humans.

It was dumb back then too, especially when Eevee's entire gimmick is all the evolutions it has. If I ever do get this game I'd definitely box my starter ASAP because they're not worth investing time or exp in.

Well, rumors were trues, fuck you Nintendo. Don't tease a true new Pokemon for 2018 if you throw a Pokemon Go-like FFS !

I will wait to see how they will rape the Pokemon series next year...

X/Y, Sun/Moon, GO, and Let's Go all use the same models, so of course they look similar. The difference is GO and Let's Go are higher resolution, which helps them look better, but the 3Ds games have a shader and outlines to make them look anime like.

Can't believe that Lapras pic was real lol, "early stages of development"

Back to a tile-based landscape again, how attractive.
