yeah not liking this album is fine but saying it's trash or irredeemable is just a garbage hot take with no thought put into it at all. there's a lot of substance here, and even if it doesn't tickle your fancy, it's still music with merit and shouldn't just be dismissed entirely

idk guys I think you should read the review 5 more times and meditate on it before you really understand its nuance. How can you say it's trash on the first day

preemptively dismissing people's opinions regardless of what they think seems more garbage to me

I like the honesty around Kanye's mental health issues, but I really could not get into this album. Maybe after a few listens.. maybe not.

I Thought About Killing You is easily my favorite song on the album, followed closely by All Mine and Violent Crimes.

But I like every song on here, which I wasn't expecting. Ye's nonsensical/manic lyrics really sum up the whole album for me.

The cover-art reading, "I really hate being bi-polar, it's awesome" strikes a heavy chord within me, as someone who's dealt with their own mental health issues, as well as dating a SO with bi-polar disorder for half a decade.

Like, while listening to Yikes, all I feel while listening to it is... "Yikes. This man sound wild af," but it really works for Ye, because if anyone would feel like bi-polar disorder and mental health diseases are super-powers, it's him and I kinda fuck with that interpretation of his illness, despite how OC he acts.

I'm reading folks say that the album doesn't address his recent behavior, and listening to it, it clearly does.

He just a wild fucking dude.

yup. it's a brilliant record. one of his best and most significant. it gets better the more i listen to it

but hey, don't dare say the album strikes a chord because of its raw approach to mental health issues if you don't wanna get dogpiled

I think saying it's garbage is totally a fine opinion. I tried giving the songs a second listen and even if it tries to get at some deeper themes, the execution falls flat because the lyrics are terrible.

Cudi's vocal on Ghost Town are so fucking bad, what the hell is that shit, that's probably what I sound like singing in the shower after 12 beers. Who voted for that crap.

FTFY, his mental health issues have been out there forever , he's addressed them before, maybe not as clear and direct but in a much more mature, impactful way. All it took was that album cover and some shallow ass, on the nose rhymes about how whacked he is/can be and suddenly it's this grand and moving thing. Some people ITT need to listen to more genres of music thinking Kanye is doing anything new here, as if he's the first "tortured genius" to lay out all his anxieties in his music.

I wish this were as deep and as thought provoking as he's been in the past but it's not, at all.

For example, the auto tune outro on Runaway resonated more with me than anything here. The Autotune is garbled, the words nigh unintelligible, as if he's just so exhausted at the end that he can only use the music itself to communicate the pain inside him. So you get human emotion distilled into just pure rawness: the literal sound of the emotions he's feeling . THAT was beautiful, that was deep, that was moving, because it was earned.

Y'know what?

FUCK the haters! This album is great and it's a wonderful meditation on the nature of mental illness. Ghost Town is a top 10 Kanye track and I guarantee you it's gonna become the anthem of summer '18.

spare me your patronizing lectures about music. no one said he's the first artist to address these issues

Who said he was doing anything new? Niggas just like it because I can relate to it personally.

Y'all act too pretentious about entertainment.

i think ghost town is a bit too weird and off-kilter to become a huge anthem type track, but man is it gorgeous and touching.

the emotional centerpiece of the record.

I don't even like most Cudi stuff but his hook on Ghost Town is amazing. it's definitely peak drunken off-key Cudi but it works really well in contrast to Ye's surprisingly on-key verse and the lyrics about trying to make you love him

Fuck it Ye is album of the year for me so far. Nothing has hit me strongly as this album has so far. Fucking Ghost Town while messy was raw as fuck and gave me such a open vibe that it completely surprised me.

I'm waiting for that Cudi x Kanye album cause goddamn. Also that Nas album too.

The Ye water is shallow as hell compared to the depths he's plunged into before but If just flat out saying " I'm bi polar" works best for you then ok

I don't think he's just flat out stating it. It's more of the implications of the ludicrous-ness that are the lyrics he uses

He's just talking reckless on the whole record, really. Like taking potshots at his sister-in-law's domestic issues so casually and basically going "id do some big wild shit for some pussy too"

It's just "I make bad decisions: the album"

The thing that surprised me is how he did it with few songs compared to other albums.
yeah absolutely. but i think that makes it even more effective because the whole thing is so easy to get familiar with. it's a lot easier to digest than if it was some four hour triple album epic. it has a lot of replay value. but i feel like i have a pretty firm grip on every song here after only a day, which wouldn't be the case if it was a lot longer. not to say i wouldn't have appreciated another track or two, but it doesn't need it. amazing record.

I haven't listened to this yet, but I feel the same way about it as I do about Yeezies: I wanna love it and enjoy it, but hoping/waiting for statements from him that'll lead to Kanye redemption. The Trump endorsement is ruining everything.

God damn, it grows on nearly every listen. Honestly surprised at this, as my initial thoughts last night were that the hype might have gotten to me. Woke up today and have had it on repeat since.

bless up, also up there as AOTY for me (DAYTONA inches ahead of it, slightly).

the short length makes continuous listens really easy and viable. it's the only music I've listened to all damn day

Damn good album...I am actually surprised.

same here. this really could've been way worse than it was, with the chance that there could've been MAGA bars and other bullshit

Gawddamn @ Ghost Town. Best fucking track of 2018.

I'VE BEEN TRYINNNNNNN TO MAKE YOU LOVE MEEEEEE

biggest grower on the album. initially thought it was total basura, but now i love the track for its minimalism and straightforward nature. and quotables
