I really want to get one but I have a Switch cover that also prevents me from re moving the joycons. Plus I would have to remove the case itself if I wanted to use these. Shoot.

I spoke with a customer support tech at Farsight Studios, and they are aware of the Flip Grip, and have received several emails asking for an update to allow usage with it. He said that they passed the info to their developer, and that they will fix the problem in a forthcoming update.

I hope that they make good on that.

Yeah I got the email too:

Farsight email replay said:
Hello,
We made our Switch developer aware of this flip grip so they will be
able to adjust for this feature.
Thanks for the report! :)

Sounds promising. Now if only they get the tables back lol.

No long play sessions I assume, as the usb-c is covered. Though they do try to present this as a positive in the KS video due to less heat.

I imagine a lot of these older games probably get 6 hours on the battery (or more), so you should be fine, but you do need to plan ahead it seems and begin with a healthy charge.

Kickstarted it. Switch already has a solid library of games that are perfect for this.

Not wasting money on something that may never come out
This is a perfectly acceptable point of view (and warranted most of the time), but just thought I would let you know that Mr Parish said they are already going to the manufacturer to get the molds made since the Kickstarter was funded. They just wanted to ensure the funding came through before going ahead with production.

It's a neat idea, but partially covering the fan and the power button would make me weary, even with those issues being addressed.

"Wary." It would make you slightly apprehensive. "Wary." Not weary, which means tired.

This is becoming almost as ubiquitous as "on accident" but not nearly as weird as "heighth"

Been watching this for awhile since Jeremy first posted pics, glad to see it getting support. The more people are made aware of and easily able to play games in TATE the better! And that comes from someone who used to flip his 20 inch CRT on its side back in the early/mid 2000s just to play Saturn and PS2 shmups in TATE.

I use the Hori Switch stand all the time for shmups and ACA titles and it's awesome but I'm still going to get one of these as it'd be nice to also play in TATE when kicked back and relaxing on the couch or on a road trip.

I used to love playing Star Soldier PSP in TATE mode.

The Capcom Classics PSP collections had fully remappable controls for both the D-pad and analog nub which was awesome. I would remap the dpad controls and mapped shot/bomb to different directions on the nub and it worked great on games like Varth and 1941. In fact, the first time I ever played all the way through Varth (which is a ridiculously long shmup with many levels) was on my PSP in TATE using this method. I can't imagine having played through it in claw grip mode like Star Soldier, odd other PSP TATE shmups didn't allow button remapping.

First time I've ever backed something on kickstarter. What an awesome idea. Not only will it make me want to play the few vertical mode games I have more often, but I could see myself buying more arcade archive games because of it.

If anyone's looking into growing their vertical games library in the meantime, Danmaku Unlimited 3 is currently on sale in NA.

Yup. Same for me.. just picked up Ikaruga, and I'll likely get the Namco Museum

And… backed! I already have Danmaku Unlimited 3 and Strikers 1945 II, and I'll buy Donkey Kong for sure once I receive the grip. I'll keep an eye out on the new games using vertical mode in the future. Perhaps it would be good to have an OT that lists all vertical compatible games down the road...

Just backed it after flipping Ikaruga into Tate over the weekend. It looks amazing. $15 is an excellent price.

I backed it a few days ago. Looking forward to getting it. I think I'll try Ikaruga on it first.

Hm. I didn't know there was a ks for this. I would have backed it. I heard about it a month or so ago and was planning to get one. Looks like I just missed it. Maybe I will see one in the wild some day.

Hope most games rotate the "right" way. I doubt for some games that they would bring resources to patch for something like this.
They have a list of compatible games on the Kickstarter page, as I recall. Any game that lets you rotate in portrait mode so the headphone jack is in the upper-left corner will be fine.

Let's not overlook "welp" and "whelp" being interchangeably bad replacements for "well" - My favorite is the classic "I could care less" Some people have no idea that not being able to care less is the whole point of the original saying.

I missed the campaign. I definitely want one of these though. Vertical mode and shmuppin is something I adore. Plus it may lure in good ol Cave to fire up the port machine and start sending over some of their vertical dodonpachi and Mushihime goodness. Ah who am I kidding...I mainly would hope for Pink Sweets and Ibara.

Do we know if Shikhondo will support vertical orientation? Would be a bummer if it didn't. Game releases this Friday iirc.

Video of a production sample:
Pretty sure it's okay to link. Looking great, and the credit card stand thing is a great idea too. Can't fucking wait.

Australia
It looks so gooood.

They also mentioned in the update that video accompanied that there's been a month's delay in the expected release date given time spent tweaking the design and the storms that have been hitting around China recently, which is more than fair enough.

I also wanted to mention how much I love the little mascot, Flippy. As soon as the project launched it was like "cool, they've come up with a cute little Disk-kun style mascot for it" which was an idea I really liked, but actually seeing him on the production sample there is adorable.

Really looking forward to getting back into some ACA Donkey Kong when this arrives

I don't know how relevant this info is for anyone who's not a backer on Kickstarter, but here it goes anyway: my Flip Grip has shipped today!

I got the email asking about shipping address, so I guess it's not far off! Just hope it gets to Australia before Christmas.

Does it do anything electronically?
I mean there have been similar models for a while in 3d model repositories like thingiverse. You could have one printed for very little and test it. I need to take a look if those models fit on my printer. But mine is on the smaller size.

3. ...

All Arcade Archives and Psikyo releases
