They probably just didn't consider it worth the effort when they are phasing those phones out this year anyway. Comparably people use iPads for much longer.

Not sure if I agree that's the best approach. Specially after focusing so much on older devices with ios12.

I'll be holding hope they get those gestures up and running on a later beta. Although is unlikely.

Apologies for being a bit dim, but what is this 'dark tint' (on wallpapers) that a handful of folks have already mentioned in this thread? Sounds like an automatic filter of sorts to me...

Besides the time not being central and continuing to struggle to get used to 'swipe down from the very top right' to see the control panel, I am really liking iOS 12 so far, especially compared to the awful iOS 11 beta.

The issue is that the phone will make the photo that you use as your lock screen wallpaper a little darker than it should be so that the time will stand out more.

If you want to compare, look at the photo on your lock screen and then in the photos app. It really kills the colors on some of the shots that I try to use as my wallpaper.

Has been working quite well on my iPhone X for the past day and I do have to admit that it feels like my battery life is a bit better than on iOS 11. Not sure if I've just been using it less today. No big bugs that I have countered, except one, how the hell do you get rid of the bar at the bottom of the screen when you're on a FaceTime call?? I just can't get that to disappear after selecting a Memoji etc.

Alright figured it out. If you increase contrast iMessage bubbles become much darker.

Notifications-> click app -> make it "group by app"

I was under the impression it was suppose to intelligently group things together like a group chat or repeated messages from one person. Wouldn't this option just bundle it all together?

Do you actually have to manually group everything?
No. You shouldn't have to. All apps should be set to "Automatic" by default which will group them. As I said before, some apps, mainly News right now, can group notifications separately depending on source so you end up with multiple groups. The second option is "By App" which forces all notifications from an app to be in one stack. (On the News app this means they all go in one single stack instead of having different stacks for each source.) And the last option is off which puts all notifications one at a time in a list like before. And you can do this on a per-app basis.

I did this myself. I took a screenshot before I updated and another after and the difference is pretty striking. It's subtle though, but it's there. You can test it right now on a pre-12 device by just using a plain white image as the background. On 12 it'll be pure white, but on 11 and before it'll be slightly greyed. Super annoying. Glad it's gone. If they really wanted to do it they should have put a checkbox in the Wallpaper settings to enable it if people want it.

I don't like that new notifications don't seem to group until they're "older". Hmm. I'll try changing from Automatic.

I wish you could set Group by app as default instead of having to go through each app and do it.

You are correct.

Example: when set to "automatic," the News app was grouping my notifications by publication. I switched it to "by app" and now they're all stacked together

Didn't resist and put the beta on my iPhone.

I was super happy since it was pretty bug free (gps seems to be working, no persistent media player)

Unfortunately notifications disappear from the watch when they stack... dammit!

Screen time is pretty cool.

Edit: they also don't always stack. But disappear from the watch regardless. At least the ones from Messenger. Weird.

Sucks.

Edit: the new grey media player is pretty neat!

I like it a lot, personally (and if you get a ton of them, they *will* stack - it seems like the priority is making sure that the 'new' notifications generally try to fit into exactly one screen-size of information, and if all you have is a couple of messages it's okay for them to expand, but they'll collapse if you get more notifications in - seems smart to me).

I've got an issue where my imessages from my mom and sister are showing in the same thread.

  • They use the same itunes account but separate apple IDs.
  • Had both check imessage settings and they dont have eachothers numbers or emails checked for either option on send/recieve
  • They are NOT receiving the messages i send to each different person. It just ends up combining the thread on my screen only. NO difference on their end.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing it is a glitch, but I guess it could be some sort of supposed feature I don't understand, lol.

Yes, but there's just inconsistency about it.
Look at this screenshot.

Twitter stacked a notification that was 12 mins old with one 47 mins old.

But Parcel is split into two with one notification that is 13 mins old and another stacked group containing older ones.

So within the workflow app, I did a sample workflow for find atms nearby. At the bottom of the setup page, it allows me to choose the maps app to use, and one of the options is Google Maps.

So...does this mean that Apple will eventually let me set my default map app to Google maps, universally??

Yeah, that's weird. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 'app type' that we're seeing in Screen Time has something to do with this (and Twitter is social and therefore more likely to have *multiple* notifications you want to see - but more likely to be grouped together - whereas Parcel is seen as something where only the newest notification probably matters).

A little bit more transparency would be nice (and more granularity in user control, even if it's tucked deeper in the settings). I'm totally understanding of the idea that different app types should be treated differently as far as this stuff is concerned, but not explaining the design decisions here just makes it look like inconsistent behavior.

I've got kind of a big issue (to me) can anybody confirm if they have it?

When listening to Apple Music (haven't tested on other services), the volume will seemingly fade out for about 5 seconds at a time. It's not exactly the volume, as the loudness seems the same. More like the higher frequencies specifically. It's very noticeable though, so you should be able to notice if you have it.

No, workflow has always allowed that from back before they were bought by Apple. And one of Apple's big priorities going from Workflow to Shortcuts is full compatibility

Entirely too buggy for me right now so I'll wait until it's further along. Some promising features and improvements so far though!

Question: What's the easiest way to revert back to 11.4?

You can restore to 11.4 using iTunes but if you backed up 12 you can't use it on 11.4.
You can edit the .plist file in your backup but that sometimes comes with problems.

I just installed it on my 6s Plus and I'm noticing on the home screen that the screen looks washed out - like when the gamma is too high on a pc. Any idea why this is happening?

Three bugs that are annoying me on iOS DB2:

1: The battery percentage on iPhone 7 Plus occasionally gets "stuck." So my phone will display 96% battery or whatever, but I'm actually much lower. Making matters worse, it won't recharge when plugged in until after I restart the phone.

2. Notifications are way harder to swipe to dismiss (for me anyway). I used to be able to put my finger on any part of a notification and swipe left to dismiss it. Now I have to put my finger on the very right edge of a notification to get it to dismiss (and even then, sometimes not).

3. The keyboard covering the text box in message boards like ERA. Although I kinda expected this one since it's been present in the first versions of every major iOS beta since at least 10.

Agreed on 2.
Much harder to quickly swipe things away.

Anyone notice there's no "return" button on certain apps anymore? I can't edit my Tinder bio correctly.

Also -- had to reboot my phone to stop my iMessages from sending from my iCloud email address as opposed to my number.

Ughhh I can't get over this audio issue! I've tested it a bit more and find that I don't have the "sound reduction" problem when listening with headphones. I only seem to get it through bluetooth with my BMW. I'll have to try some bluetooth headphones later.

Nobody else is experiencing issues with sound quality when listening to music?

Facetime is fucked for me. Won't even let me close the app once it locks up.
Also, I hope they fix the issue with the text field on Resetera when replying!

I just noticed apps aren't opening when I click on their specific links in chrome. Before the update I could click a YouTube video and it would open the app. Now it just opens the mobile site. Same is happening with Twitter. Anyone know how to switch it back to opening the apps?

Should be able to long hold on the link and select "open in __________" and then it will remember for next time. At least that's how it works in Safari

"X below average"... it clearly can't be mine, is this some global stat across all users? That'd be pretty nice (and frightening if ppl spend 8-9h a day in social media apps).
