to my knowledge, justin's only real creative involvement with rick & morty since probably season 3 is that he recorded the voices from his own basement. i'm told he wasn't welcome in the writers room because of multiple covered-up internal WB investigations re: sexual misconduct.
Alec Robins is narrative director at SquanchGames.
If true, WB has been covering for Roiland for years.
I don't think we live in a world where that is in any way feasible. No company will pay to keep an entire staff to try to pitch stuff for an indeterminate period of time to try to find interesting pitches, with no guarantees. Especially when their current contract ensure that they have their jobs for at least 4 additional seasons, which is almost unheard us in animation, much less in our current situation with the inflation, so no way adult swim would create a new contract that offer so much based on nothing but wishes that they get the genie in a bottle a second time. So, like… here's the thing.
I get why you wouldn't outright kill the show (innocent people get to keep their jobs, it makes a lot of money for AS, and likely single-handedly keeps them from getting the WB axe, etc), but this point, as it's becoming more and more obvious that people knew, and knew for YEARS… yeah fucking kill the show jesus.
Between the sexual assault cover up at Squanch Games itself, this, him being buddy buddy and giving known Neo-Nazi Jontron money (which is where I personally got on the "fuck this guy and the horse he rode in on" train), the already well documented toxic workplace ("fuck the union").
Like it's becoming more and more clear this dude is a monster, and for the fanbase is effectively inseparable from the art. Perhaps the early warning signs should have been that the Dhoc and Mharty "pilot" shorts was Doc tricking Mharty into performing sexual favors for him. It's been rotten from the core from the very start. Why not start anew, give those writers and animators some time to pitch new shows and go with one of those.
Yeah, I know its not realistic, but I still think it should be done.I don't think we live in a world where that is in any way feasible. The still have forty episodes for the current contract that's the thing. They're years off from having a discussion of renewal, which I doubt will happen.Yeah, I know its not realistic, but I still think it should be done.
When the announcement broke, and they claimed the show would continue, I assumed that they're gonna run out the current contract and choose not to renew when it ends, which probably will be the best option (but, unless Justin's really bad with contracts he'll still technically get paid for all of it)
Right, for clarification he's only been cut out of the reboot. I don't think I said/didn't mean to imply otherwise but good to specify for those who still like the show but don't want to give money to a child rapistJust to add to this. Buying the DVDs, which are still printed puts money in John's pockets.
Or, hear me out, keep the show going for the people who aren't abusive predators and kick the one who is the fuck off when you learn about it, not years later when it leaks that you've been covering it up. From what it sounds like in that tweet, the writers did what they had the power to do to keep him out, it was on the higher ups to do the right thing and remove him instead of hiding it.So, like… here's the thing.

Considering how quickly AS, Hulu, and Squanch made these announcements, I wouldn't be surprised if they had these contingencies in place already. They knew who he is.
When the show comes back, I'm sure they'll address this in some weird, meta way.
I told my girlfriend they should try an episode similar to the Return of Chef. Extra points for the results sounding as crude!

That situation was pretty bad how it all went down. Hayes objected to how Matt and Trey depicted Scientology but understood them. Years later a statement was made in his name saying he wanted to be released from his contract citing religious intolerance. After they killed off Chef it was revealed that Hayes had had a stroke and couldn't make decisions for himself and one of his Scientology friends had forged the statement. His income was sharply reduced as a result and he died 2 years later from another stroke.

Sad thing is if Scientology didn't take advantage of him, Chef would have a much more respectable send-off.When I found that out, I was sad.
Strangely, we wouldn't have had much more Hayes either way considering those issues.
That is crazy -- much more surprising than them recasting R&M. I never liked Solar Opposites really but glad that team can continue to work and people who do like the show don't have to give it up just because of this prick.
Yeah the little war going in there was kind of a neat plot. I wouldn't say I laughed much tho.
Kind of weird Elon would even dive into this pool unprompted like that.
Not really considering he was on the show, Justin has called him a "good friend" in more than one occasion, and was in the leak of Elon texts in that twitter court caseKind of weird Elon would even dive into this pool unprompted like that.

And neither of those episodes were written or directed by Roiland. Dude is a piece of shit, but he is not the soul source of everything creepy and unsettling on the show. The sex dragons ep was s4. 😬
And the piss guy villain was s6. 😬😬
Workers and people in general have a "keep your head down and mind your own business" attitude in general and honestly I don't blame them, that guy was not the police nor had hard evidence to take Justin down, and maybe quitting his job and putting his livelyhood at risk was not worth it.Honestly, that statement from the narrative director at Squanch Games where they say WB has been covering this up for years makes me kind of go:
"So you knew this and yet you worked with him on this game that just came out? how long did you know this for?"

Yes, that was my point. Apologies for being unclear. And neither of those episodes were written or directed by Roiland. Dude is a piece of shit, but he is not the soul source of everything creepy and unsettling on the show.
Reminder that there are hundreds (maybe thousands?) of people with R&M tattoos...
That sounds about normal.Kind of weird Elon would even dive into this pool unprompted like that.

Tbf it also completely fucks the production pipeline to have to design and board everything after the improvised sequences are recorded, and I think they've said as much before, but yeah
Someone said (here? Twitter?) that the pee villain guy was clearly from Roiland's fetishes. One of those was a bad episode, but I don't see anything 😬worthy about either of them.

There's a reason these things tend to build up for years and then dramatically blow up. One person speaking up is easy to silence, a bunch of them are not.Workers and people in general have a "keep your head down and mind your own business" attitude in general and honestly I don't blame them, that guy was not the police nor had hard evidence to take Justin down, and maybe quitting his job and putting his livelyhood at risk was not worth it.
No, the only reason he got money from the DVDs is because he agreed to do the art and commentaries.Right, for clarification he's only been cut out of the reboot. I don't think I said/didn't mean to imply otherwise but good to specify for those who still like the show but don't want to give money to a child rapist
Also makes me wonder if he got anything from that Nicktoons Smash clone or if that happened after Nick did whatever they did to excise him from the franchise

Clearly not if you read the second half of my post you conveniently left off in your responseso we found out that Roiland have been harassing's his co-worker at R&M for years at least and you think the best solution is to fire them all while Roiland will still get hundreds of thousands if not millions in residual from existing toys/shows/merchandise ?
'dork' is to likeable a word for Musk. He's more of a "Ass kissing scumbag".
And of course, Mr. Twitter and likely friend of Roiland's (due to his cameo), Elon Musk is not making this better.
is there actually proof of this? Roland isnt the only person that liked to be peed on.Someone said (here? Twitter?) that the pee villain guy was clearly from Roiland's fetishes.
I think the implication is they're about Roiland.
They're friends and Roiland got him a cameo on the show apparently.
I don't think it should be and we honestly need to really rethink why this is always called for. Whether it's in shows or games or movies, the idea that the hundreds to thousands of people should be negatively affected because of the actions of a single or at most handful of higher ups, far removed from them or their knowledge, is a bit extreme. Especially when we also call out companies for frivolous mass layoffs. It just doesn't rub me right.Yeah, I know its not realistic, but I still think it should be done.

Isn't harmontown over?I feel like once the legal dust settles in a few years we'll get an episode of Harmontown where Dan will lay out his perspective. I'm kind of interested in knowing how much he knew, what his relationship with Roiland before and after the full allegations came out, what they did to protect women on the show afterwards especially considering Harmon's own past. And Dan Harmon is the kind of person who I think would be open about all this going by past Harmontowns where he has talked about his own flaws whether they are comically for unimpactful or seriously for the darker things.
