So...uhh....I hadn't been watching Demon Slayer up until today, I've been home with the flu and decided to put it on after getting a recommendation from a friend.

I binged to episode 19...holy shit...holy fucking shit. I know I'm late to the party but HOLY SHIT do I like this anime.
I'm surprised you can enjoy things while you have the flu. Being sick kills my hype.

I never want to see Thorfinn win any of these duels.

Seeing a yourself take a dump in a litter box from the perspective of the cat you accidently switched bodies with must be an awful experience.

K-On Season 2 Episodes 1-20
After really liking the first season, I think I'm just going to drop this here, because I've realized I simply haven't been enjoying the show at all for several episodes now. Part of it is probably because the premise just can't really support the show for this long without it becoming stale, but the bigger issue is the writing.

Moving the focus away from Yui and trying to expand the rest of the cast sounded like a good idea in theory, but the problem is that none of the other characters really have anything going from them. Mugi is just super boring, Azusa is still worrying about the same issues that have already been dealt with in season 1, and Ritsu+Mio are total garbage that ruin any episode that focuses on them. Sadly, out of the four, it's Ritsu+Mio that get the focus in most episodes.

The comedy is still good at least, but there seems to be less of it than in season 1. Which makes sense since Yui is the only funny character in the show, and she's mostly gone now.

There's still good episodes and good moments here and there, but overall I didn't like this anywhere near as much as season 1.

Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel 2

But uh aside from that one scene, this is about 30 minutes of godlike visuals (both in the one fight scene and in a more subdued horror segment near the end), and then about 90 minutes of total garbage. Which as far as Fate goes is actually a really good ratio considering Apocrypha was like 20 episodes of garbage followed by 2 good ones.

As far as the writing goes though, this is by far the worst Fate media I've seen so far. It's just so full of bad edge. Sakura is such an absolutely ridiculously over the top character in terms of her tragic past that she's impossible to take seriously. It's like the show is trying so hard to make you feel sorry for her that it basically feels like a parody. And it doesn't help that some of the stuff in this movie is straight out of a hentai plot. Unfortunately, unlike in UBW where you can take out the romance and still have a sensible story, Heaven's Feel absolutely requires you to care about Sakura if you want any of its emotional moments to make sense. Or any of Shirou's characterization for that matter.

this is so strange to me haha, my opinion (and what I thought was the general consensus) was always that K-on 1 was a enjoyable but kind of so-so comedy shackled to the original manga's 4-koma nature but s2 was where the studio's tendency towards ephemera, mono no aware and the general transience of young life was really allowed to flourish. I guess you're more focused on the comedy aspect of it though

Yeah, I've heard the same going into season 2, so I was pretty disappointed by it. But then again, my tastes for Kyo-Ani shows pretty much always seem to be the exact opposite of the general consensus, so I'm not really surprised.

I don't think it comes down to just the humor though. I did a pretty long writeup on the first season here, and the humor wasn't the only reason I liked it. If anything, S2 has some of the funniest parts of the show. It's a shame there isn't more of it, but thats not the only reason.

I feel like Yui is the most fun, relatable, and interesting character in the show. Drastically decreasing her screen time in favor of much less interesting characters doesn't really work for me. And it also feels like there's less character development in S2. In S1, Yui (and Azusa to some extent) get pretty clear and obvious character arcs, but there's really not that much of that in S2.

I guess they try to do something with Mio and Ritsu, but I don't think it works at all. I'm seemingly much more critical of the way the show handles Mio than other viewers, because the way the show treats her character seems kind of problematic to me but I've never heard anyone else mention anything about it. For instance, episode 7 (the one with her fan club) was straight up a pain to get through. It felt like the show was expecting me to be laughing at Mio and her social anxiety, which felt super terrible. And this kind of stuff is pretty much a constant whenever she's around. It happened in S1 too, but she wasn't as much of a focus there so it was easier to ignore. And I'm not even going to spend time explaining why the show stating that "Mio being bullied in elementary school is supposed to be okay because it's just kids being kids" is a super garbage thing to say (god I hope that was just some sort of a translation mistake).

I still think it's a good show (except for the Mio stuff), but I just don't really feel the need to keep watching it anymore. It's really good at doing what it does, but it's also undeniably kind of one note and repetitive (and much more so in S2), and I think I my time could be better spent watching something else.

i admit it's been a long time since i watched k-on and i never sat down and, like, analysed why i feel the way i feel about it, so I could easily be wrong on some things, so it'll be interesting going back with your thoughts in mind at some point. Not for a while though probably.

I would say maybe check out the film. It's sort of set at around the point you're at anyway, and might address some of your issues.
Of course, no reason to watch something you're not enjoying, and the film isn't a drastic departure from S2 or anything, but I think it's worth considering.

I haven't seen it mentioned much in here but Are You Lost? is really entertaining. Homare being such a badass is hugely enjoyable. The fanservice probably does it no favors in terms of garnering discussion but all the ways she makes things work are super cool.

Show is good as hell. Definitely one of the best action series I've seen -- the animation is truly next level.

Magical Sempai 9

Looks like all of next week is at the beach. Unsure if I should be worried or not but feeling a little confident after the swimsuit skit had what was expected from this sort of show but in fairly small amount as the majority of the runtime was the two guys working out the right psychology for getting to audience expectation.

What happened? The animation was really off, today. Like, really off. Like, really, really off. Is wolfboy outshining the wingless angel? Does wolfboy's potential have no end?

I haven't seen the show yet, but it was pitched to me by a buddy as "Bear Grills the anime with fanservice."

I dunno, seems like it might be alright. But my ability to endure fan-service has been waning as of late. Magical Senpai is about all I can handle and that's mostly because its such short bite-size vignettes.

It's exactly that.
I have to say it has less fanservice than Magical Senpai, though.
Might give it a watch later down the line. I've been fishing for recommendations ever since I finished catching up with Demon Slayer and a couple of friends recommended Vinland Saga and Symphogear; probably gonna check those out later tonight.

The episodes are short like Magical Sempai and the service is usually limited to a certain part of the episode or two. They kind of do the same style where there are a few vignettes per episode generally. Most of the time it's just her coming up with ways for them to survive and yeah, the "Bear Grylls stuff" is legitimately pretty interesting. I think it's entertaining on its own merits due to that. Worth at least a shot if that component might interest you.

Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai. 4

Kyousuke comes home to a naked little girl he doesn't recognize. One he does recognize shows up naked a second later though. His sister orders him to leave the house afterwards. With a bruised face, he lets her know how unbothered he is by her naked body because they're family (note he didn't mean this). The mysterious brat then lifts Kirino's skirt in front of him. It's not until after the girls are done wrestling on the coach that the younger one introduces herself.

Ria is in Japan to visit and stay with the Kousakas. She's known as "rocket girl," the roommate Kirino was able to beat once back in America, and is 12 years old. While Ria's around, Kyousuke spends his time witnessing how Kirino acts like a proper sister to someone else. At Ria's request to sightsee, it's off to Akibahara for the gazillionth time. Uninterested with Kirino's beloved Meruru, Ria wonders off into the porn magazine section of a store. She looks through one featuring a character that resembles herself and starts to cry. To make up for that experience, Kirino buys Ria a phone strap that looks like her to replace the magazine's memory.

KdnMWlR.png

The title reads "Adult Sensation."

Kirino explains to Ria that she brought her to Akibahara to show her the things she loves, that there's more to life than track. It's at this moment that Ria takes a good long look at Kyousuke, the thing she suspects Kirino loves the most. Ria assures her that she likes things other than track too, just not nearly as much. After Kirino spent all day charging up with her hobby, they decide to have a rematch.

Watching his sister race reminds Kyousuke of a time when she became better than him at everything. He thinks about how Kirino's hard work doesn't hold a candle to Ria's raw talent, and about how he gave up on himself while Kirino continues her struggle. These feelings spur him to cheer her on halfway through, shouting that he has a sister complex. Despite her lead in the beginning, Ria barely wins. Her conclusion is that Kirino lost her drive without her brother around and that his cheering gave Kirino a speed boost towards the end. This is what she came to verify. Dense as ever, Kyousuke convinces himself it's only because she was missing her porn games. He doesn't acknowledge the possibility of it being both, let alone himself being the core reason.

It's time for Ria to go since her mission is complete. Once she's out of sight, Kirino playfully teases Kyousuke about his sister complex declaration, after he spent the whole episode denying having a Lolita complex (RIP Ruri). Then, out of the blue, Kirino asks her brother to be her boyfriend.

UKZpxL4.jpg

Two things. One, this episode cements that Kirino receives more of a morale boost from her brother than her hobby, friends, and environment. Two, as much as Kirino insisted for Ria to stay away from Kyousuke, she still took him along with them to Akibahara, knowing that she was going to race.

Kyousuke not expecting for Kirino to play the role of a sister well speaks volumes of his relationship with her; their relationship is unique and not representative of how they treat others. Coupled with how he gave up against Kirino at some point in their past, there's a sizable gap in their development together. One that clearly left them as would-be strangers. What they've been filling that gap with is worrisome though, and Kirino's latest request doesn't help.

Ah, the good ol' body-swapping gag, though this time it's with a person and an animal. I'm not usually one to find this material all that interesting, and I'm struggling to see why this particular story is going to be a two-episode arc, but it's a nice cleanse after the depressing content of last week.

I will say I think the animation of Tilarna was not at the level it needed to be for the central gag of the episode to work as well as it should have. The basics were there, but this episode often looked rough, and there were definitely some movements she made that looked more creepy than funny. I expect there will be less of that next episode, but we'll see.

Season 1 is almost a legitimate story about sibling bonds marinated in the stink of its subject matter, Season 2 just goes off the deep end and it's almost kind of haunting just how ruined everyone is by the end of it.

the 26.5 domestic violence count lolll

The left hook that could have changed everything, but wouldn't have happened if the siblings had a normal relationship or Kirino didn't have anger/self-control issues. Notice the first victim's bruise:

iDzZ6e6.gif

Kirino does a full swing with a clenched fist, and to the face of a younger child at that. Why push this trait of hers—expressed only around her brother—this far without seriously addressing it, besides exaggeration and to negate the impression sexual harassment leaves when applicable? Yes, it's slapstick, but it's not Tom and Jerry either. Plenty of violence exists in the most serious of scenes too, so having it both ways is jarring.

It's borderline domestic violence because Kyousuke had already been floored himself; already witnessed his sister try to hurt this child; already provoked her too; and didn't stop her while being the oldest one in the room. No harm, no foul though, right? Only half a point was earned for attempted juvenile assault on Kirino's part and neglect of violence towards children on Kyousuke's end.

In any case, if the work wants to be taken seriously, then this has to be a part of the conversation.

This post may or may not be serious.

I started Symphogear Season 1 yesterday after all those weeks of people screaming what a fucking awesome series that is.

1. Aoi Yuki (<3)
2. HOLYSHIT BLOOD
3. What was that freaking amazing awakening at the end of Episode 1? Holy shit.

I am now on episode 3 and...I enjoy it.

A Mobile Armour! I've only seen one of those in IBO, I think. It was terrifying. Whoever this poser is that's flying it looks wonderfully 80's.

I'm surprised that Bright didn't recognise Quattro. Did he and Char never meet? Poor Fa ☹️

If you've watched the original MSG, technically the Big Zam (that bipedal thing with no arms piloted by Dozle Zabi) is a Mobile Armour.
The Mobile Armour in IBO was hyped a lot but in the end it amounted to almost nothing and I found its helpers that could consume other MS for materials posed more of a threat.
Paptimus is a certified pimp.
I don't think Char and Bright had met face to face at that point.

Radiant Season 2 details. It'll cover a very good arc and I'm really looking forward to seeing Ocoho animated (girl in the top left), she's an amazing character. It's also cool to see a non-stereotypical, badass black girl in an anime.

I'm just hoping it's a better adaptation than the first season was...

Really cool visual, can't wait for this and Volume 12 after tomorrow, fortunately it seems Season 2 will be more faithful to the manga so it should be better hopefully.
