I wonder if there's much hype for this. If Battletech is going to come roaring back this is the year (between this and MW:5).
Sorry if my questions are dumb, but I'm really on the fence about picking this up and I'm hoping to get pushed over. I tried checking out the stuff in the OP but some of the links are dead now.
For those that have played it, how accessible is this? I usually have an edible before I sit down to play a game, so when things get too complex I tend to lose focus. Is it possible to enjoy this game casually, like modern XCOM or the PSX Front Mission games?

I'd say it's a bit more complicated than either, but on the upside there are lots of pretty lights.
It's the only preorder inside Steam Global Top 15, so things are looking good so far.
what now?
So I'm not allowed to make the OT after all, due to political differences with some admins of this site. I hope someone else can take over instead of me and use the title "Battletech |OT| Kill the meat, save the metal" which both is a quote from MW2 Mercenaries game and pretty much incapsulates both the universe and the gameplay of this one. But I'm okay if something else is chosen. Sorry about the short notice and take care.

I think I'm going to take advantage of Steam's refund policy to try it out. My biggest concern is being able to read all the text while playing on my living room TV, and being able to efficiently play with a controller. If it can do those two things, I could see myself getting really into it.
No. No mod support per se but the game should be relarively easy to mod.
Yeah, how are they related?I just wanna know what the political difference is about to make it so Lime can't make an OT.
It's a slow burn like most CRPG-s. Also knowing Harebrained, I'm sure plenty of people are also happy to wait for the final-final version.Kinda surprised this only has five pages still. Pre-release streams look superb, and it's in the top 10 global sellers on Steam now.
Why does your political facing have anything to do with the OT... I'm sure people would still collaborate with you either way. Making good OT's by yourself is too much work anyway. Well... I had a habit of making mega OT's so maybe that's why. But still. So I'm not allowed to make the OT after all, due to political differences with some admins of this site. Backer keys over the weekend? But that's when I planned to dive in to Yakuza 6. Ah well, good problem to have I guess.
I'm still slowly working my way through Yakuza 0, but it will have to be on the back burner. Going to commit time to this game.Backer keys over the weekend? But that's when I planned to dive in to Yakuza 6. Ah well, good problem to have I guess.
Oh, haha, that makes sense. Thanks! Yakuza 6 it is.
Oh well, there it is. Thanks for the clarification, SweetNicole.
So now, who's up for making the OT? I could make it but I'm not experienced in making a fabulous OT.
Yeah, if Lime has already prepared the OT, anyone can make it and mention the original creator accordingly. However, I'm not sure if you can make a contact with a banned user, as I haven't been banned here (yet). But back in the old place, you can't do anything if you're banned. Not even sending a PM.Could still be handled as an Adopt-a-Poster situation if Lime would like to remain involved.
(I'm keeping my nose out of any disciplinary matters, but this looks to be within the bounds of the rules and it does seem like it would be a shame for Lime not to be able to post the OT to which they were very clearly looking forward.)

Once you learn the mechanics it's like second nature. You shouldn't have any problem. Just spend a few hours on the game first and learn the mechanics, then eat away. It's really absorbing if you get into it.Sorry if my questions are dumb, but I'm really on the fence about picking this up and I'm hoping to get pushed over. I just served a two day ban recently, so I can confirm it works the same.Yeah, if Lime has already prepared the OT, anyone can make it and mention the original creator accordingly. We're a patient lot, biding time to strike! HahahaKinda surprised this only has five pages still. Pre-release streams look superb, and it's in the top 10 global sellers on Steam now.

Paradox's marketing for this game has been superb, though. New let's play videos every week, lots of keys given to streamers, banner highlights in Humble/GOG etc.
I think it's good strategy for this kind of SRPG.
This is the type of game I hope gets the Paradox treatment aka tons of post release content and patches. There's so much in the Battletech world to cover. I hope it does well on Steam.

The paradox business guys have a podcast they do intermittently. They've stated in the past they're unlikely to approve pitches that don't have post launch monetization opportunities lines up from the get go. Exceptions exist like PoE1 where the game was basically funded and they were just shopping for a distributor, which might be a similar situation here as this was already kickstarted.
It seems like a prime candidate for an expansion, but I wouldn't bet on 5 years of PDS style living game development. HBS probably doesn't want to just become a support studio for one game.
That's annoying, Shadowrun Returns series had workshop support for all 3 games iirc.No. No mod support per se but the game should be relarively easy to mod.
Thanks for the clarification. There's always more to the picture.Lime was juniored in January after a series of low quality threads and not as the result of any "political differences" with administrators. This was a decision made with broad agreement among the staff. Since then Lime has repeatedly and publicly misrepresented the nature of her communications with us and been reprimanded each time, to the point where we no longer believe this poster is acting in good faith.
This morning I explained to Lime that she was not yet eligible to regain her thread posting privileges as it has only been four months. Lime's decision to once again lie about this means the junioring will now be permanent.
That might be an entirely separate game, since you'd need to have mechanics to compensate for the whole bargaining thing.I mean, it's pretty clear we'll get a Clan DLC right? Like an expansion? It just makes too much sense.
Thanks for the clarification. There's always more to the picture.
Who's heading up the OT now then?

I would say it is like a more manageable, more forgiving Xcom.
I am happy for a real Battletech game after the disaster that was/is MWO.
