Amenffs the actor/actress does not needs to be 1:1 in likeness with the character, she is a young white girl, boom here is your Ellie.

there's a simple test
I mean, how old was Ellie when the outbreak happened? Either she is American or lived basically her entire life in America.
Yeah, Dever looks like her, but that's a game model.. I think people forget how young teenagers actually look.Gonna be honest, never heard of her. Don't watch GoT.
I'm kinda surprised it's not Kaitlyn Dever, but she is old for the role now I suppose if they're going with 14 year old Ellie.
Someone better check on that guy who didn't want the casting ruined by GoT actors in the Joel thread. 🥴

Ellie was born 6 years into the pandemic so yeah, a British accent isn't gonna fly.I mean, how old was Ellie when the outbreak happened? Either she is American or lived basically her entire life in America. This is assuming they didn't switch the setting to Britain, of course.

I mean she actually believably played a high schooler in Booksmart, though I agree that if we're sticking to 14 years old, then yea that'd be a stretch lol

Booksmart was filmed like 3 years ago. That's a lot of difference to pass as a very young teenager.I mean she actually believably played a high schooler in Booksmart, though I agree that if we're sticking to 14 years old, then yea that'd be a stretch lol
That's a good pick, I could also see Jeremy Davies playing him. They both do that wiry and off kilter thing very well.I've said this before, but I think John Hawkes would make for a great David.
it's hard not to see this as HBO 'keeping it in the family' and playing favorites here, Ellie has a very specific American accent and it seems weird to cast a Brit.
she will age with the show and naturally grow into it if all goes well that isThis is really cool. I wonder if they're planning to do the story of Part 2 as well? She would have to age a couple years though...
It's almost as if actors literally have coaches to help them with accent and it's their job to do it and be able to switch when they have to. Have you ever watched TV?
Brits are also notorious for having perfect American accents since they grow up watching tons of America media. It's almost as if actors literally have coaches to help them with accent and it's their job to do it and be able to switch when they have to. Have you ever watched TV?
Regardless, I'd rather have a British accent than a bad American accent.
I'd save him for a potential GoW adaptation. That's a good pick, I could also see Jeremy Davies playing him. They both do that wiry and off kilter thing very well.

Hugh is also 30cm taller than Wolverine is supposed to be, didn't hurt one bit I think. In regards of how the actors should physically "fit the part."Funny how people think actors can only do one thing just because they've not seen them do another. Hugh Jackman came from musicals, was nothing like Wolverine and killed it.
Sometimes different works out
Looking forward to seeing her in the role
They hire brits all the time as americans and you don't always notice, so it's not that weird.it's hard not to see this as HBO 'keeping it in the family' and playing favorites here, Ellie has a very specific American accent and it seems weird to cast a Brit. Something tells me we're gonna get a thick new yawk or bawston accented Ellie
now Mahershala Ali would've been fantastic as Joel, which would have made my doubts disappear, but that's apparently not happening
maybe this'll turn out but im skeptical as of this point
why, no, i've never seen any sort of media and have no idea how accents work. i had no idea accents could apparently be emulated, and have such a high success rate as to always be authentic and never sound forced or be at all distracting. thanks for the insight. It's almost as if actors literally have coaches to help them with accent and it's their job to do it and be able to switch when they have to.
