I'm assuming this part was added after the article was made

For now, for those that take the ISO route, be aware of this big issue.

In fact, after we published this post, Microsoft reached out to tell us about one potentially gigantic catch it didn't mention during our briefing: systems that are upgraded this way may not be entitled to get Windows Updates, even security ones. We're asking Microsoft for clarification.

Again, unless Microsoft clarifies on this, I'd rather not update manually.

I just changed my vote. My old PC can't run Windows 11, but my new one can.

I think I'll wait a while after the official release though. A year seems like a good buffer and I have no isses with Windows 10.

How convenient that MS added support for one specific 7th gen Intel CPU (the 7800HQ). The same 7800HQ that just so happens to be in the $3,500 Surface Studio 2 that Microsoft is still selling.

My i7-6950x doesnt seem to be compatible.

That's correct. MS isn't, officially, supporting any Intel CPUs earlier then 7th gen Intel (and that's only select 7th gen chips). The computer will need to have a fresh install of Windows 11 to bypass the CPU restriction. You won't be able to install it via Windows Update.

I'm in the same boat, I've got a ThinkPad P50 with a 6th gen i7-6700HQ and I won't be able to officially upgrade. I've been running the Windows 11 beta on this machine since it went public without any issues, so I'm going to look into doing a fresh install when the final version releases.

We´ve a huge problem if we catalog older CPU´s/GPU´s as obsolete and not being able to run a OS that I swear it´ll work flawlessy because we´re not in the 80´s decade.

As we all knew they would. Unlike Apple, they can never commit to their bold attempts to cut off legacy hardware support.

Well of course not unlike Apple they don't have Hardware Monopoly so they can only loose by enforcing it. They know it, we know it there really is no point to it.

Just wait for release i highly doubt they will go trough with that.
Besides Microsoft has no control over what you run Windows on and they can't really stop you from getting updates either there is always a workaround.

Microsoft being unclear? Who could have seen that coming? "Might" is meaningless, they either get updates or they don't.

If there's one thing Microsoft *are* committed to, it's being utterly awful at messaging regarding Windows 11.

It's a security feature only enabled on pre-built non-gaming OEM machines. So upgrades and clean installs won't be affected. Basically, if you fretted over TPM, you won't be fretting over this.
