I am all kinds of hot and bothered thinking about next year's thread after Pokemon and Animal crossing drop.
The charts are ordered by revenueMatPiscatella I was wondering was RDR2 the actual best selling game of the year or the one that made the most money? I was just wondering how COD went from being #1 for 2018 at the end of November to #2 for 2018 when it was higher in the December NPD.
2 year old console sells better than 5 year old consoles.
Can't say I'm surprised.
The yearly charts are too?
Oh but it's still doomed since they won't reach their hardware forecast.Amazing how we go from Nintendo being doomed when generation to knocking it of the park the next.
Unless specified, everything is.
In that case again how did RDR2 jump to #1 then when it was behind COD in the yearly charts at the end of November and COD was higher then RDR2 was in December?
Smash outsold both GoW and Spiderman without digital in a single month?
I said damn
You know, I'm not actually sure how that would have happened, now that you point that out.In that case again how did RDR2 jump to #1 then when it was behind COD in the yearly charts at the end of November and COD was higher then RDR2 was in December?
See it was strange to me too when I went back and looked at it. That's why I was hoping MatPiscatella could shine a light on that. You know, I'm not actually sure how that would have happened, now that you point that out.
But it's not just the Switch having a strong year. While hardware sales were down overall in December, every system saw year-over-year growth in 2018.
You know, I'm not actually sure how that would have happened, now that you point that out.
Entirely possible one of those is a correctionHmm why did the chart Mat posted on Twitter have RDR2 at #2 for December but the one in the OP and on Gamesbeat have COD at #2?
I guess I was just reading it wrong but I was correct in that it didn't dominate the year. Regardless, an amazing feat. Some here stated that Switch outsold PS4 launch aligned. As PS4 is one of the most successful consoles ever this is impressive.
Wow this is already one of he most embarrassing NPD threads I've ever read.
It had the highest unit sales of any platform since 2010. I'll let you into a secret PS4 wasn't out then. It has nothing to do with console lifecycle, it's a product that people like and enjoy playing games on.
It's great for the industry that Nintendo is doing well. 2018 sales are hitting a high for the last decade, this is also great for Sony and Microsoft who are gearing up to announce their next gen consoles.
We should all be celebrating instead of this embarrassing downplaying of the numbers.
Makes sense for the US.I hadn't realized that Spider-Man wasn't just the best selling PS4 game of the year, but the best selling PS4 game overall. It beat Uncharted 4.
There was a thread but it was closed in favor of discussing it here.Do we have confirmation/a thread on smash having the highest exclusive launch in history?
Smash outsold both GoW and Spiderman without digital in a single month?
I said damn
Since this is NPD thus is also only US sales right?Smash is 5th best selling of the year? Despite less than 4 weeks on the market AND not counting digital sales? Good lord
I am pretty surprised that Donkey Kong outsold Kirby this year, especially considering it's a port. Then again, I'm one of those people that bought DK but not Kirby.
Were reviews and online praise actually a significant factor in creating the difference between DK and Kirby? I wonder.
We can safely assume 8-9 million sellthrough and a 10 million+ shipment for December. Can't wait for worldwide sales. Hope it's a turn for the series it 10s of millions, as it should be for being the culmination of everything Nintendo is about.
That's been clear for ages, though. On a much, much smaller hardware install base too.
When you look at BotW, MK8D, Mario Odyssey and Pokemon, Nintendo have the strongest, exclusive IP in the industry... by far.
The performance of the NES and SNES Classic systems are also incredible.
People sure had a different tune about that with the Wii U and even the 3DS
Yeah, but Nintendo's games on those systems still had insane attach rates.People sure had a different tune about that with the Wii U and even the 3DS
I hadn't realized that Spider-Man wasn't just the best selling PS4 game of the year, but the best selling PS4 game overall. It beat Uncharted 4.
Can't believe Spider-man sold more than Far Cry 5, that is insane.
