Grabbed this and finally settled back in (rolling Strider and going into Ranger later on. Not sure what else I'll mix in). I'm only low level (12ish) right now, but if anyone is around that level looking for a basic support Mage, my FC is SW-8139-5048-9405. I'll add other folks from this thread for when I get up to the end game.

Era: Reddaye

Reached Gran Soren yesterday ( trying to finish all sidequests before you venture too far and some of them expire) and got the Gryphic Victory Longsword for my Pawn. That thing is a beast and I recommend everyone to get it as it's quite easy to get.

You have to escort Sir Berne to Shadow Fort. If his escort mission doesn't show up in the Gran Sore inn, find him in the Encampment and gift him Foreign Knives until his affinity is up. Then you can clear the Ancient Quarry (has three ogres and some bandits) and make a shortcut to a location that's close to the Shadow Fort.

Even in my PS3 and PS4 platinum trophy runs, I rarely bothered with the early game escort missions. At least, the ones posted to the job boards scattered throughout the world. DO make sure to do the escort mission gained by speaking to Madeleine, or any such seemingly important named NPC.

Later on, once I've established my network of fast travel port crystals, then sure, most of the remaining job board escort quests are easily completed. Rarely worth it. But easy.

I was trying to clear that quarry last night, but had to resolve to return later as I could not put a dent in those ogres yet. No where to make them fall to their death like the one in the everfall

Hey guys what's the best way to get some good weapons in this game. I'm a level 29 magick archer and i'm tired of walking around with the same stuff. I went to the Tomb of the unknown Traveler and i got a steel greatsword lol, i'm thinking about save scumming the tomb to see if i can get something good but i'll have to wait until the item respawns.

Do quests, go into places beyond your story pay grade and save scum some treasure. It's what I've been doing for when I need to shift vocations.

They really REALLY like women so use female pawns as bait. Alternatively, use higher level pawns of your friends to cheese them. When you get to the 2nd ogre, don't let it go to where the third ogre is because two ogres in that narrow space is hell.

Picked up the game the other day but just now getting to play (submitted my finals early woop woop). I remember loving this game on PS3 and playing it all the time with my cousins. On the switch, it is truly magical. Just starting out, but I am already awed by the scale of the game and its wonderful performance.

Yeah, I mainly just wasn't prepared because I forgot what a pain they are at low levels. Showed up at the quarry with a 4 lady party, no real stock of healing or combat thrown items, and already thinking I needed a gear upgrade based on how the everfall went... oh, and I swear one of my pawns blew up all the explosive barrels before we even encountered an ogre :(

I thought we might be able to make it through anyway, but just fighting the first of the 3, I had barely whittled it's health down maybe 20% before it killed me about 10 minutes into the fight. I'll be back and show them whats what after I clean up some side quests in Cassardis and maybe do the waterfall dungeon on my way back to Gran Soren.

Am I being silly for wanting to switch my vocation a third time, at level 24? I was originally a fighter, went Mystic Knight, and then Warrior. Decided the slowness of Warrior wasn't for me so I went back to Knight, but I'm not sure if I'm enjoying either class.

Eyeing Assassin right now and wondering if it's worth spending the points. Or would I be gimping myself too much by needlessly spending discipline?

It's not silly, really. The stat gains you get every time you level up are 100% determined by your vocation at the time of level up. On top of that, you'll eventually be rolling in so much Discipline, that unlocking all of the vocations AND buying up all of their key skills won't really be an issue. Most skills don't transfer from vocation to vocation (save for those skills that do overlap, in which case buying it for one vocation unlocks it for all), but the passive Augments CAN be equipped by ANY vocation, once unlocked. You'll want to unlock most/all vocations and really get those high-level passive Augments eventually. Finally, roughly 80% of any build in the game is composed of gear. They balanced the game such that even if you completely fail to specialize or min/max your stats, come up with the flattest, most jack-of-all-trades build possible, you can still steamroll through the entire game, and the post-game, and the even tougher DLC, without too much issue. Even on Hard Mode.

So if it's your first run? Do whatever you feel like and just have fun. You'll quickly figure which vocations you find the most fun. Once you do, it turns into a game where you look for the Augments of other vocations that synergize best with your preferred vocation(s). Then finding and reforging (upgrading) the best gear you can get for said vocation(s).

Play every vocation. It's not going to hurt you to bounce around. It's cheap to unlock them and you get access to augments you can use between all jobs. Find out what you like and then maybe dig thru a wiki page to see what other vocations have augments you might want to grind for later, but until then try everything. It's cheap and there's no downside other than your stats will raise in a more balanced rather than focused manner

That's actually a good way of playing. You should play all of the classes and see what you like. All classes have passive abilites called augments that can really help whatever class you end up using for most of the game.

Love reading the stories in this thread, used to play the game on the PS3 but unfortunately never got that far. Ever since the game was released on PS4 I've been telling myself I should rebuy it, and now I'm extremely tempted to buy it for the Switch.

regarding WBacon's message about the pawns, would it not be easier to use a spreadsheet for people to add their info? Might make it easier to see which pawn belongs to which ERA member and much easier to add everyone in one go ;)

You earn discipline aplenty in this game (as long as you play it a fair bit). Don't worry too much about it.

And as already said multiple times, character stats are mostly balanced by gear stats. So don't worry too much about that too.

Play which ever class you prefer (though you may want to get "augments" from other classes, in which case you'll need to "grind" them).

Feel free to make one, I don't think I can manage doing that at the moment unfortunately.

I think it's a lot simpler for people to drop their FC, Arisen name and pawn name/level/class in the thread rather than hop into a Google Docs spreadsheet as convenient as it may be in the long run.

Damn I just went back from vacation and found my mail box empty even though the game was shipped on the 24th.
I'm in France, how long will have I to wait to receive my copy from play asia ?

Is there any good place to grind low level vocations (with lower level weapons) in the post game?

Game is fantastic as it was on previous platforms but damn, are the servers that slow for everyone or do I have a network problem?

they're still kinda funky, yeah, but they're better than they were the other day

my main gripe with the servers at the moment; searching for pawns by level doesn't always show every pawn and sometimes if you summon a pawn it will actually be at a much higher level than what it was listed as

Is that what's going on? I was wondering why I was only seeing a couple pawns at level 30 last night. I was worried it just meant sales weren't very good.
that seems to be the case, searching the same level with the same conditions twice was sometimes bringing up different pawns

it seems like something weird is still going on with the servers but at least we can update our pawns again

Technically it was a drake :P

But yeah, I was a similar level when I first saw that, as a Mage, back when I played it first time on PS3.
It took me around an hour and 10 minutes with no pauses to kill it.

Should Rook be replaced right away? Or would there be a benefit to keeping him around? Kinda feel bad tossing him aside, lol.

You did right. If I recall correctly, the "low level" ones are kinda doable in the 40~50 range, but it's better to take them at 60+.

IIRC.

Edit:

Either the servers are effed up, or the Switch wireless has some nasty side effects.

Anyone with a wired Switch? How are the servers?

Rook is ... a weird game design choice.

Throw it out of the airlock.

Or off a cliff.

Haha same thing happened to me last night. Was making my way to a quest and took the long way without knowing it. First I stumbled upon a griffon and managed to take it down. By then night time was rolling in but I said fuck it and kept making my way towards my quest. In the middle of tearing through some hobgoblins in a large forest I saw fire in the sky and there it was. Spent about 30 seconds trying to decide if I could even damage it before I just tore ass the rest of the way to my quest marker.

Drake fights in the game are amazing

once you're actually leveled and geared enough to tackle them safely.

You can do some nasty stuff. Being a sorc and hitting a drake weak point with a High Gicel is amazing to watch.

God bless my new Switch friendos from this thread using my beautiful Gritty pawn. The RC is extremely appreciated.

Also, one of the hottest tips I got from this thread cannot be stated enough. I'm just making notes of where escort quests want to go, and then doing some port crystal shenanigans to get them there instantly whenever I come across said location

Ok, let's do this.

SW-4106-6412-0050

Should be a decent enough Mage by now (around level 40).

Was originally a fighter. Will come back to fighter vocation at some point. T'was a semi decent tank. Sticking to magi vocations a bit for now (gonna grab a few MagDef while we're at it).

That was my first suggestion as well but it seems to have fallen through the cracks. Now that you mention this, do you want to take a crack at it? ;-)
Perhaps you can create a shared Google docs spreadsheet where anyone can write in their friend code, ERA handle name, current pawn level, vocation, inclination, etc. That way you won't have to constantly scrape info off the thread and update the list.

Haha, and I haven't bought the game yet xD
I got a simple spreadsheet done so all I really need to know is how I can hide the link so people need the quote the message. That why we can minimize the people that can mess with the data. Only thing I haven't made a list for is Inclination as I'm wondering how important that is for the average player. I did add Pawn level, though that changes quite often for players so I'm not sure if that'll stay up to date.

So if anyone can tell me (here or through PM) how I can hide something so it's quote to show I can post the spreadsheet ;)

Alright, I took the liberty of already adding everyone who's posted their FC using the threadmarks, up to you guys to add your pawn name, level, etc. if you didn't post it. (for those of you who did, I already filled it in).

Seeing I put this much effort into it, I guess I must buy the game now xD

If you want access to the document, make sure to quote this message ;) (or reply, no idea how this works)

Ahh good to know, thanks again :)

Yeah, this makes doing escorts for affinity/rewards way less of a headache - it's not really worth it otherwise. I also always put one on the ledge outside the witchwood overlooking the cassardis road because I hate wandering around in there.
