So, here's my report of last night's sprint event—the Red Bull Junior @ Interlagos
Race 1 I quali'd something like 5th which given I couldn't get to grips with the RB Jr I was quite happy with. I thought I'd got quite a clean start and made it through the Senna S unscathed. Unfortunately
cooldawn gave me a little love-tap on Opposite Straight that sent me off-track and put me dead last and a few seconds behind a battling cooldawn/
eyeball_kid . So naturally I started pushing past my limits and did myself in the Senna S, putting myself 9 seconds behind. But then something a little weird happened—the car started to click. I managed to get into a groove and close up to within .5 seconds behind eyeball. I had a fair few laps trying to get past eyeball without any luck, he was driving some superb defence and ultimately it took the smallest of mistakes for me to finally get past. At this point I still had a couple of seconds to make up to catch cooldawn, which eventually I did, but I really want to point out how cooldawn moved out of my way and slowed down so I could overtake. Super sportsmanship from
cooldawn — thanks man. So ended up finishing 5th.
Race 2 I started 3rd and managed to get a early pass on cooldawn but a similar story to race 1 evolved—I was a few seconds behind
eyeball_kid who was again doing some great defensive driving. Unfortunately for him, but not for me, eyeball made the tiniest of mistakes that allowed me to take the lead. Of course I knew it was only a matter of time until
CLR_CMOS would be on my ass but I did manage to hold him off for a couple of laps, but all it took was one tiny mistake for CLR to fly past and start putting some serious distance between himself and me. The next problem, however, was
DHC-Shannow hooning it behind me and I knew that a single tiny mistake would do me. Next thing DHC suffered "mechanical failure" which was great for me—not so much for DHC. I was feeling quite comfortable with half the race to go, I had 5 seconds on
GHG but after two awful laps that was down to .5 seconds. Needless to say Mitch got me and so I dropped to 3rd but I managed to stay within a second of Mitch and keep the pressure on. Fortunately Mitch bottled it last lap (lol) so I managed to take 2nd.
By the end of the races I started to enjoy the RB Jr. as I understood how to drive it better. I tend to struggle round Interlagos too, so all in all I'm very happy with the result.
We do need more people for the Sunday night races so if anyone wants to join us, lots of spaces left.
