Regarding the story, Zelda in her ceremonial outfit using her magic got the top billing on the cover art. It would be extremely weird if that key moment was highlighted there and not a core part of the climax. My expectation is that the mini guardian's weird time travel stuff is the reason Ganon wins, not a way to create some weird alternate timeline happy ending. Plus it might give them a "canon" way of bringing the champions' descendants into the game. The roster looks good, I imagine the new villain and another couple characters will be added post launch like in Hyrule Warriors 1.

Lovved the demo but I'm a lifelong musou fan. That being said, the theme and presentation are top notch, and the integration of slate abilities is done beautifully. Kind of random, but has anyone heard if this will support local wireless? I'm doubtful it will, but Nintendo is actually pretty good about incorporating this feature whenever it makes sense, and it makes sense here. I guess the knock is that Koei might not be, haha.

Well-built demo, too. Leaves you wanting more!

That's also part of the reason why I'm expecting changes. I have a hard time seeing the same guy who asked, "What would Link do?" be okay with the answer to his question being, "Nothing, 'cause he's dead." They'll re-write the ending so that Link can be there and be the hero.

I am extremely confident that will not happen.

I must say i expected much worse performance of AoC after reading through forum posts about it, but after i played demo myself, its seems good, good enough for a game with as much action and enemies on screen as it is. I did not expierience any noticable lag or frames drop in docked mode. I will buy game for sure. Im only a bit iffy about time travel stuff , because that could make it a alternative reality instead of canon story but we shall see.

Impa is so braindead busted it's hilarious

Played through the demo on very hard. But basicaly RT, X, X, until 3 seals, Y string with dash cancels until full super, use super, rinse repeat

Post launch character roster of
- Purah
- Robbie
- Dorephan
- New Yiga character
- New mysterious villain
- Kass (why not if the future champs are playable)
Sounds pretty good honestly

Or just an epilogue that's a couple missions that make up the 'canon' final battle of BOTW so they have a concrete version going into botw2

Yup I could roll with that

The OCD in me couldn't do the first mission without backtracking near the castle and there was a chest, I bet there is a lot of hidden stuff lmao, especially because of how huge those maps are.

Is the ~20fps framerate a reference to Ocarina of Time?

Seriously, the demo plays awful. Should run in 60fps. Hyrule Warriors 1 runs much better. Not buying until a Super Switch version comes out.

Can someone list the icons with the characters they're supposed to be connected to? I'll admit I'm having a hard time figuring this out.

This demo framerate destroyed any hype i had for the game...couldn't finish the demo at all, it's just way too rough.

Can anyone confirm how well the game runs in multiplayer? That could make or break the game for me personally.

Don't forget to find the koroks!

Here you go
So Link, Zelda, Rhoam, old champions, Impa, new champions, Hetsu, Great Fairy, Kohga, Monk Maz, guardian, and Ganon

those last two might not be playable tho. New champions definitely are in base tho
Hetsu also has a separate unique mission marker so definitely playable

Likely for sure King Rhoam and future Champions are playable. It seems Hetsu, Great Fairy, Kohga and monk Maz May be as well. Mini Gaurdian and Ganon might be or just be map icons
So 16 likely maybe 18
Omg noooo
Playable Hestu is probably unlocked after getting all Korok Seeds

sooo much asset reuse (to be expected), and in my opinion to many liberties.

For "thats what happened back then": we never saw the mini guardian, no one mentioned a time traveling mini guardian in botw, etc...

so either a non canon story, or
"the mini guardian only started to work when the calamity happened and moved from the prime timeline to this alternative timeline", so its a side story...parallel to the original BotW timeline.
Or "everybody got amnesia/brainwashed to only forget the small guardian"...

There is no consistens timeline variant where this is the story before BotW without either retconing BotW to hell and back, or this being an alternative timelien sprung into existence from the original.

And: the pictures they find on the guardian depict the castle during the calamity from far away...while he woke up during the event in the tower and transported right from there.... so how do these pictures exist? did zelda just stoped while they where fleeing and said "wait, let mi make a foto and send it to the shika cloud".....?

Gameplay: its a muso alright. Feels like hyrule wariors. First mission was fun, secend already became tedious to me. The framerate is something alright... Im not super fragile to framerates, but the stuttering in Links Awakening, and this... its getting hard to ignore it.

A no for me. As someone that played the original Hyrule warriors, and thinks that BotW is one of the best games ever... yeah, its a fanservice game, with a lot of loot and numbers, but not many decisions to make. popcorn game. Thats okay, if you are in the mood for it. I would rather have a good hack'n'slash (DMC, Bayonetta) or a game base around exploration (BotW).

For people that did not play HW or any musou game, there is no excuse not to try it.
The demo shows the gameplay really well.

I expected the Champions' successors to be playable. The Monk, corpse thingy and Fairy caught me by surprise.

I doubt the Champions' descendants are gonna travel through time. Rather there could either be a post-game or they're just bonus, non-canon playable Warriors

Performance is trash and it overwhelms every other aspect I could mention. Holy shit is it bad. And I'm the person that's usually downplaying performance issues in games because I'm not as "sensitive" to those as other people are. I'm kind of speechless.
I think you exaggerate that its trash. I played demo myself and i would say it perfectly playable. It could be smoother and there are times when frames drop a bit when shits explode everywhere, but thats expectable.

Oh, okay. I see it now. Interesting that the "villains" aren't going to be playable.

I guess the time travel thing will be a way to bring the BotW characters into the game.

I really don't think performance is out of line with other musou games?? It's kind of baked into the equation at this point.
yeah, the FPS is what I expected.

The performance isn't good. But at the first trailer the lighting and effects were clearly above other Switch Musous.
So going in I already figured how it would run. Maybe because I expected it, it's not hampering my enjoyment as much. The Co-op drops are pretty bad tho.

I don't know if I played a different game, but in handheld mode it look great, almost exactly like BOTW undocked. Framerate is not stable though, but it's the same framerate as in docked mode.

Gameplay wise, I like that there are more moves than in the original Hyrule Warriors while still maintaining the basic combos, but they are more grounded than those moves for obvious reasons. This game is going to be full of BOTW fanservice and I'm loving it.

Story looks like it's going to be cutscene heavy. I can't wait to play the full game.

SO my takeaway from resetera AoC threads is - Do not listen to others opinion and get their harsh opinions to let you down, just try play demo yourself. For example for me the game is perfectly playable, it could be smoother and i noticed a few frame drops here and there , but its very enjoyable and fun game!

I played for about 5 minutes before I had to go into a meeting but good god it looks like shit on my Switch Lite. Is there some sort of haze / blur effect over top or does it just look bad?

lmfao miyamoto's terminator idea for link's crossbow training finally came true. this is literally terminator 1, with the mini-guardian as kyle reese and the malice gas as the t-800

Upon closer inspection, the Great Fairy Icon seems to specifically be based of Cotera (the one near Kakariko in BOTW)

Character datamine
The future champions being in the base game is surprising to me, I expected them to be DLC. God I hope they aren't shoved into Calamity with time travel, have an epilogue or just make them playable in adventure mode.
Purah, Robbie, buff Yiga and the new villain not being playable is a shock, hope they come via update or DLC.

is there enough flavour of how it plays, *and* some of the story beats? My daughter really wants this but has never played a musou (we even have the previous Hyrule warriors which she's never played). She mainly wants it for the additional backstory for Zelda (she loves BotW)

Honestly I'd wager on Great Fairy being a map marker as well. I could see them being playable, certainly, but it makes too much sense to just have them be an armor upgrade station as they are in BoTW

I defended CrossCode on Switch before the patch, usually never feel any slowdown in games people usually complain about (I still am dumbfounded at people who said Hollow Knight had any lag), but this is on a whole other level for me. Like, just moving the camera is hell, I feel like it snaps unnaturally due to performance in a very awkward way, like I don't know when to stop pressing the stick due to how much it jumps inbetween frames.

Can we just talk about how good and varied the map design and objectives now?

Instead of the typical warriors formula of just base taking, and maybe taking care of a boss, there is a lot more to do in AoC.
The second map, where you have to escort Zelda out and run away from the guardians. Then you go activate the guardians, and then having to lure the guardian to the spot, while avoiding it, before having your final showdown with it is super super awesome. I have never seen such varied design in any warriors game. And that was just a single map It is so cinematic too, all told through gameplay nontheless.

Like seriously, how come more people aren't talking about it.

Also just as an aside. Can we all label our spoilers? I know some people want to talk the actual demo, and the datamine. Labelling will go a long way to make sure we can all discuss with what we are comfortable with.
