It's a thought, as is compulsory voting. But neither gets to the root of the problem, which, like I said, has to do with people not having the time, energy, or, let's face it, critical literacy. There's a lot of toxic shit in American society that makes it difficult to have any of those three things. Hell, when I was filling out my ballot for the primaries there were still some races that I left blank because I was simply exhausted from sorting out other races and propositions.
A lot of the difficulties probably originate in the usual places– undervaluing and disrespecting education, underpaying workers, the pressures that people feel to work harder and longer hours, lack of child care infrastructure, the list goes on. We're in a bad spot and there are plenty of people, sadly, that want to keep punching down.
