Octopath Traveler wasn't the only game with supply problems last week.

Captain Toad faced them too just not to the same degree.

That means regardless of whether Octopath had supply issues or not, I believe Taiko's first week sales would beat OT's second week sales, being that 69k is a damn fine number.

Ahhhh I see, thanks for the explanation. I did not get that implication in your original post at all.

I do agree though, 69k is a great number and OT week 2 probably wouldn't have met that even without the supply shortage.

That makes it even weirder because aren't the New 2DS XL game bundles technically download codes? (Pre-installed)

Both Media Create and Famitsu count bundle sales, actually.

But the New Nintendo 2DS LL bundles do not include a "normal boxed copy", though as Hieroph pointed out it's not a Download Code either.

Well it's weird then that last holiday season when Sony bundled every PS4 with Everybody's Golf download code those sales were not counted. Or when back in a day Sony bundled download codes of Bloodborne with every PS4 for a while.

Great HW and SW sales for the switch. Shame that it's a little while till the next big release. Still expecting the switch to keep a high baseline, wondering if it'll drop back down to around 40K or if it can stay closer to 50K.

Switch killing it.

When is next big stock supply expected for Octopath? Will be interesting to see how much it jumps in sales.

Wasn't that in the UK?
Hmm...might have been there as well.
Anyway Knacks jpn first week where only that big because bundle sales are counted for software.

SE dropped the fucking ball lmao.

Thats how they usually operate with new potential strong IPs on Nintendo systems.
Call me crazy but it often seems like they dont their games to perform to well from the start - to keep expectation in check on what they can deliver on the plattform.

If a game like Octopath would launch with +200k it would be one of the top launches of the year - market/shareholders would expect SE to follow through on that success faster.

They still havent been able to adress DQ XI Switch in meaningful way, ports of Remasters of FF games and co. are MIA as well and obv. there hasnt been a big Switch related announcement from them.

I know that we are going to see more from SE this fall in terms of announcements now that Octopath is out.
They wanna reap the benefits once Pokemon/Smash expanded the audience this Holiday season.

You can't count as a sale something that is given for free.

Hopefully Octopath Traveler's legs will be strong in the coming weeks/months. Word of mouth seems to be amazing, at least going by amazon.co.jp reviews. I don't remember the last time a RPG got a 4.3/5 rating.

How is BOTW now ranked in sales compare to the previous Zelda games? Has it already beat OoT?

Really? Switch has been so not spiky this year.
Bizarre that demand has been so consistent.

W1 - 146006
W11 - 54342
W29 - 53745
W18 - 53113
W26 - 50726
W12 - 50412
W28 - 50239

Those are all the >50k weeks NSW had this year.

Lowest result

W19 - 31720

Excluding week 1 this year has been in the 54k to 31k range. It's a very steady pace.

It's not "bundled".
If you buy PS4 at one time in a particular store, you get a free DL code.

Excluding 3DS Software. We are looking at the following software sales distribution in the Media Create Top 20 this week.

Switch: 92.5%
PS4: 7.5%

That Taiko debut is definitely very strong. It has the makings of a 600k-700k seller, assuming its legs won't be worse than what the 3DS first entry showed.

Best Taiko sales:
Code:
PS2 Taiko no Tatsujin: Tatakon de Dodon ga Don - Tatakon Bundled Set 64.002 743.334 Namco 24/10/2002
NDS Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: The 7 Island Adventure 60.250 693.164 Bandai Namco 24/04/2008
WII Taiko no Tatsujin Wii 114.610 658.783 Bandai Namco 11/12/2008
WII Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Super Deluxe Edition 102.437 654.842 Bandai Namco 29/11/2012
NDS Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Dokodon in Touch! 89.158 641.229 Bandai Namco 26/07/2007
3DS Taiko no Tatsujin: Chibi Dragon to Fushigi na Orb 63.388 590.132 Bandai Namco 12/07/2012
PS2 Taiko no Tatsujin: Appare Sandaime 53.995 578.993 Namco 30/10/2003
IMO Switch version should slot in somewhere in between those.

Since that's Famitsu, here's Media Create numbers for the most recent entries (from CY MediaCreate Top 1000s + weekly charts)

First week where Switch's top 2 titles are both third party!

Good sales all around. Hopefully Octopath shortages are sorted out soon...

It's a running joke in SalesAge because once it was used to justify sub-par sales or something or other. But I agree it's in bad taste right now. A little 1st grade boy died of heat stroke a few days ago near my area. That said, I don't think anyone making these jokes is aware of how bad it is here right now and I don't think anyone is trying to offend.
Yep, running joke for that exact reason. I don't follow Asia news so I had zero idea 10 people have died from a legit heat wave. TBH that comment I thought meant 10 people were "banned" aka "died" from using the joke.

Last year this game debuted at No.1, now it's still in the top 3, let that sinks in
Zelda is more impressive to me given it's a single player game. but it goes to show that freeform gameplay is the way to go to extend the legs of single player gameplay

Another week without a Vita game in the top 20... It's really dwindling down, eh? :-/
there hasn't been a major release in a long while. what still releases for it are niche games like visual novels and a lot of them seem to be jumping ship to the Switch

I think at least one or two of those can do pretty well. Don't CoD games usually do around 300-400k? That's pretty good, especially for a very western-focused series.

CoD and Rockstar games....are def. big in Japan.
Spiderman should do quite well too.

The impact on console hardware sales might not be as big though.

Well "big" in the sense of over 200k maybe, but "big" in the sense 700k or more I don't think so.

When is the next big release for any platform? There is Mario party in October but is there much else between now and then (like say 50-100K opening)?

To be fair...the games that fit the second definition have been the same for the last couple years.
On Sony consoles its MH, FF, DQ and this time KH3 might do it as well considering the hype. Otherwise there isnt really much to sell on that level.

Games like CoD are relatively big compared to what most other releases sell on that plattform.

Lmao at Detroit not going out without a fight. I want it to reach 100k so badly before leaving the Top 20 lol

EDIT: It already outsold the first 3 weeks of God of War damn. Maybe there is a chance it will overtake its LTD eventually

Zelda is outlegging both Kirby and Odyssey.

This shows the uniqueness of Breath of the Wild and also the overcrowding of platforms on Switch.

given how Kirby did in relation to Mario, and historical data, I'm not too certain overcrowding is much of an issue. especially since Mario nor Kirby lends itself to legs (despite it's updates). BotW, on the other hand, is far more open and freeform in its design, allowing for more unique (and gif-able) experiences that help extend playerbase

that's my theory, anyway

Decent line-up of games. Definitely still hoping for a surprise or 2 but not expecting anything.

I could see there be another Nintendo title getting revealed in the next direct, a port or so. Feels a bit thin from a first party perspective to only have 1 expansion and a mario party game from mid july to mid november. Another possible surprise could be DQB2.. its supposed to be in 2018 but we havnt heard anything from it for a few months now.
