Thanks for the quick response! Yeah, the 400k from Japan + 1.081 million for US/EU are the last known figures I could find as well.

All right, let's take a crack at this regardless:

MlUc6D1.png

The chart above takes three figures into account to try and break sales down by region:

1. Worldwide shipment figures (provided by Namco in the case of Symphonia and Vesperia). In the case of Zestiria, I've had to take an educated guess. Taking into account all the other data for the game, I've assumed 1.7 million, which would put it just behind ToD's 1.72 million as the fourth highest-selling Tales game.
2. Whatever data is available for Japan, whether it's a last-known shipment figure or retail sales figure from Famitsu.
3. Asia sales back-calculated by subtracting Western and Japanese sales from the worldwide sales.

Unsurprisingly, The West™ does account for an increasingly high proportion of sales. Arise will probably show us what all these years of building the brand up outside Japan has amounted to. At this point, it's safe to assume it's going to see very healthy western sales. Asia growth should be interesting to see, too.

(Again, this is just ballpark figures to try and give us a sense of what sort of trends we're seeing. Entirely possible I've missed something in the chart, since I literally threw this together in 20 minutes. Feel free to correct if anybody has updated information.)

The worldwide numbers for Symphonia and Vesperia are rubbish and shouldn't ever be used and/or with a big asterisk mentioning how this is combining sales of original release, ports, and remaster + subsequent ports of said remaster all of that accross a full decade.

Decent good news all things considered if Arise does cross 200k retail FW, I don't think I would have bet on it a few weeks ago, decline might end up being less dramatic than expected

"This week, the new titles ranked high.
Among them Tales of Arise, which won 1st and 3rd place, is currently the most sold PlayStation title in 2021. It has a very good word of mouth and is a highly satisfying work.
In addition, we expect that WarioWare: Get It Together! which won 2nd place will become an evergreen title at an affordable price.
We hope that new titles will continue to drive the market."

Either WarioWare has gone high or Arise on PS5 low. Being above it at these retailers that usually favour Sony means when smaller ones are added it will have a clear lead.

Rumored price cut was a price adjustement specific for Europe based on exchange rate and the alignment with the price of the new OLED model.

"Nintendo of Europe is changing the European trade price of the Nintendo Switch console to retailers," it confirmed.

"More than four and a half years after its first release, Nintendo Switch continues to have strong sales momentum in Europe. After carefully weighing up a variety of factors, including currency exchange rates in Europe and the upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, we decided that now was the appropriate time to change the European trade price of Nintendo Switch.

"The trade prices of Nintendo Switch Lite and the upcoming Nintendo Switch – OLED Model are not affected. The final price to consumers is determined by retailers. As a guide, we recommend that consumers check with local retailers to find out their prices."

It added: "We made the price change before the launch of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model so that the price differences between each model in Nintendo's own retail channel, My Nintendo Store, would be what Nintendo judges to be appropriate for its own store."

So GEO is saying that Tales of Arise opening is above Resident Evil VIII LTD sales, am I reading it right?

Somewhere. I think.
So GEO is saying that Tales of Arise opening is above Resident Evil VIII LTD sales, am I reading it right?

Yes (unless something went wrong with translation). So at least at GEO, RE8 sold less since launch than ToA in 4 days.

Rumored price cut was a price adjustement specific for Europe based on exchange rate and the alignment with the price of the new OLED model.

Was utterly baffled by this rumoured price drop, but yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Switch has always been slightly more expensive in Europe (though many/most retailers ended up selling it for less than 329.99€).

現在、2021年度で最も販売したPSタイトルとなっています。
Currently, it (Arise) has become the best selling PS title of year 2021.
Typically 年度 is used for fiscal/academic year, so starting in April. But who knows if that's how they meant it.

I was guilty of thinking Monster Hunter Rise would be the second coming of Portable 3rd in Japan with digital included. Now matching 4's 4.1 million seems like the safer bet.

On the other hand if Tales of Arise can pull a hat trick and get within striking distance of Berseria that would be something.

At the end of the day both games could show fluctuations in install base don't matter if your audience is dedicated enough.

Uhhh.... MHR you compared to Japan's top selling MH, and were disappointed it did not get there. Ok. But then you go on to compare ToA not to the highest selling Tales in Japan, but just the latest, and if it reaches that "that would be something", and would show that fluctuations in install base don't matter (?)

If you compare ToA to Berseria, you should compare MHR to Generations, and going by that MH saw an explosion on the Switch in Japan.

Part of Portable 3rds success was due to being able to get with friends and play at McDonalds, cafes, at parks, after school, etc. I don't know if Rise would have been able to replicate that but trying to replicate that during a pandemic is a tall order.

I compared Rise to the best-selling MH because of BotW, Smash, ACNH and Momotaro. The hardware sales made it easy for me to entertain that idea.

PlayStation hardware and software sales are in the toilet so I set the bar much lower. So yes it's relative.

That is precisely what the chart specifies. The point of the chart was simply to illustrate what sort of split Tales has seen across various territories over the years.

Still no sign of restock for Tsukihime on Switch, retailers have been left with the initial shipment.

So I been seeing so much praise for ToA, Seems like sales on steam are pretty good. Arise should do 200k+ in japan. It's NoA that'll have to pull through to hit a million right? We only got UK numbers but UK never paints a good picture especially with jrpgs

When Scarlet Nexus sales were tried to be painted as an achievement there's no way Harada would have a problem with Tales performance so that he feels justified (again).

Just some rough estimates that could happen for ToA (ship+digital) First Week

excluding PC

350k Asia
125k Europe (UK under 15k)
250k NoA
75k RotW

250k WW PC

So maybe 1mil unless I'm overestimating some of these

Where is this estimate from?

www.resetera.com

PAL Charts - Week 35, 2021 | Minecraft Switch back at #1, The Medium debuting at #36 and WRC 10 at #40 in UK...and more! Sales

I think every multiplat has sold significantly better on PS5 this year, from Hitman onwards.

It was estimated as less <6.5k here

was under the idea scarlet nexus did 7k, not 3k.

Uk loves digital even more than I thought, Xbox wise is natural as series x are super rare to come by but still, it's a overall thing.

Uk did around 15k physical, it lacks the digital sales.

How? From Bruno

I just noticed Wario Ware: Get It boxed launch sales are below that of Miitopia, I had missed this piece of information since my eyes went directly to Tales of Arise paragraph.

In other words, Tales of Arise <6.500 units.

There's an overestimation and an underestimation of Tales of Arise, more so the former, not so much the latter except from a few peeps That are passerby posters.

As we learn and relearn all the time maybe it's best not to judge any game's western sales on UK physical opening sales.

WarioWare: Get It Together! will open 50-100% higher than Gold at retail and considering its price, type of game and being only 1,3GB it will also have big eShop sales this time.

Europe isn't the strongest area for JRPGs apart from 2-3 countries.

If you expect big improvement at Arise numbers it will have to come from USA, It was the place that saved Scarlet Nexus from bombing.

Yes, admittedly, you were right. And I'm sorry for my rudeness before. I didn't account for a potential drop in sales due to the OLED announcement. And it's like you said, the holidays will be the decider.
It's cool. I just took a shot in the dark based on how the sales of multiple systems in their first post-GW week compared to the average over the months afterward was frequently not significantly different (at least under normal circumstances) and just went with it. Sometimes the difference is pretty big, so I was fully prepared for the possibility that I could have been off by a good bit more than I was. The average over the past several months being less than 3% different from Week 19 isn't bad.

As for the OLED, it's a bit hard to tell if its announcement had a negative impact on sales. We rarely see a new model of a system announced so far in advance (the Xbox One X is the only other example I can recall). Normally, a hardware revision is announced no more than a month ahead of its release, and when they do negatively impact sales of the older model pre-release, it's pretty pronounced, as we saw right before the releases of the PS3 & PS4 Slim, the DSi, the New 3DS, and the PSP-2000. Sometimes they have no real impact on sales, though, as we saw with the GBA SP and Switch Lite. The Switch's sales have been trending downward, but it's been gradual, plus they were trending downward before the OLED was announced as well.

Rumor of OG model having price cut announcement on monday
I did mention that, though it seems like a moot point now that even though the rumored price cut was real, it was Europe-only (unless they have some sort of surprise for NA & Japan).
