"This week too, Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! is the undisputed number one. Momotaro Dentetsu series has become software that will rewrite history.
At new releases, Nioh 2: The Complete Edition is at 4th place and it is the only title ranked from PS4. It is a complete version of Nioh 2 which contains all past DLC.
With new releases, such as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, I'm looking forward to next week's ranking."
Lol at rewrite history, and I know it was expected but hopefully disgaea doesn't just plummet more than 90%

Well, there was mention of XB2 being bad and really, it wasn't that bad. It had questionable decisions but ignoring it, the game was great IMo.

And poppi? lol no. I'll never concede that it's nia!
I don't think anyone called it bad, I'm was just arguing that somehow people perceive Xeno 2 and Torna as different games.

Jumping in on the Bravely vs Octopath discussion.

I think I prefer the first Bravely to Octopath in most ways, including music(although Octopath's is amazing as well).

The actual thing that stands out in Octopath vs Bravely is I think it had stronger writing even if the narrative was (mostly) disconnected between characters.

I wouldn't judge message boards when it comes to Bravely sales. Just wait until the marketing goes into full swing.

Bravely Default 2 won't have much of an issue hitting 1M really, but I wonder if SE has plans for it post launch like DLC or whatnot. I wonder if it'll hit 2M though. Probably will have a higher digital ratio thank anticipated.

That's fair I suppose. I have read online that some, and by some I mean many, greatly dislike xenoblade2 for being so different from 1 when it wasn't really that bad, sure it had its lows but it wasn't some torture and had some really good highs. I just enjoyed 1 more than 2 in some aspects (story) but the gameplay of 2 is better than 1 IMO, at least more fun. It came down to that 2 played more like an anime/ light novel while from what I see people say 1 plays more like a novel/book

Where ? On message boards ?

The game won't have any issue selling 1m+ and the marketing push didn't even start yet in the West.

Actually the comment starter from Real Life pre orders
It is tracking well behind supposed smaller games that Will hit the market later on, such as Story of Seasons or rune Factory, that arent supposed to be sure million Sellers
I hope it does well, but even the fact that the western marketing push isnt started yet isnt reassuring imho
The game is coming out in few weeks

Well just to Add Context , the chart I pull this off was from their Growth Strategy Mid to Long Term Slides in the presentation which had 4-5 pages of Details. From Page 34.

Thanks.
Going the same way as the graph, they're telling a story and only sharing a few snippets of data convenient for their storytelling, it's a shame since everything seems to be going well for them so there's no reason to be shy of sharing it in a more honest way (so it's either being used of not sharing too much or just wanting to embelish just a little bit the truth for it to look even more rosy than it really is)
Kinda funny to see everything was written the pronominal way, I guess Capcom-sama himself is talking to us through that paper

Also didn't expect to see wedding as a way to appeal to a broader demographic but why not I guess (p12)

Slight correction, but 5th place for South Korea last week was Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit - Mario Set, not Super Mario Party

Bravely Default 2 art direction is awful.

WoFF was not enough for Square Enix and they have decided to double down on the chibi characters

I do think one of the legitimate critiques of Sony's lack of eastern market focus is losing out not just in Japan but in growing console markets like South Korea, Taiwan, and potentially China to Nintendo. It looks like Taiwan and South Korea are growing to be decent facsimiles of Nintendo's dominance in Japan, we don't get that much data but the data we do get points towards that.

I am mildly surprised no one has made a bigger push for China and India (not sure what the console market looks like there tbh), they feel like they are primed for rapid growth if they are catered too correctly.

China is limited by what the government allows. Sony is also pushing for chinese developers to make for Playstation. Stuff like Boundary, Genshin Impact, and Lost Souls Aside came out of the China Hero Project

There aren't nothing wrong with Chibi designs.😤

BD2 is staying true to the series roots(and 4 Heroes of Light before it) even if there's some elements of the graphical evolution that could have been handled a bit better.

Definitely interesting that Disgaea 6 on Switch had a much lower placement drop than the PS4 version. It sold more of its stock, and sold more period. Did NIS fast-track more quickly enough?

Hope BOND is a good seller long term.

Alfa System is now a subsidiary?

Alfa System was your typically independant mid-end developper that was bound to struggle after their usual bread & butter contracted games declined and/or dissapeared (Tales Radiant Mythology, Oreshika, Phantasy Star... mostly Sony handheld games), was not ready to tackle development of "big boys games" on HD and probably in dire need of financial backing for the last few years considering their output.

Good thing for the company, it secures its employees future for the coming years, Meteorise probably gains the knowledge of videogame industries veterans and will be able to improve its output for its next projects. It's probably one more step towards mobile gaming from a former traditional videogame developer, but that was Sega Sony and Bandai Namco's call, not them.

Interesting detail is that both companies are pretty far from each other, Meteorise being Tokyo based while Alfa is in Kumamoto

EDIT : Actually Meteorise worked on a few games for dedicated gaming devices for Marvelous and Koei Tecmo, last ones being Valkyrie Drive and Atelier Firis (support development)

I mean, it has tripled the franchise best in 3 months, it did 2.5M (shipped) in 3 months and is showing absolutely crazy legs. Who knows where this train will end, but guesses of 4M+ don't seem too crazy (shipped + digital). And that is a historic performance for anything not called Pokémon.

It's also historic in terms of being Konami's biggest ever game in Japan and the biggest game in it's genre (I think).

And if they're just referring to their own chain's history, these all apply too, of course.

To me Alfa System will forever be associated with their works for PC Engine, in particular Ys Book I & II which was jaw dropping when it was released in 1989.

I just want to say that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was awesome and Tora will forever be the #1 nopon of the entire IP.
Not exactly a high bar to clear when your competition is an extremely tiresome food joke (Tatsu) and a guy who did literally nothing of note after joining the party (Riki)

I have to agree. It seems for some reason Square is convinced that "nendoroid crap" (as one of my friends calls it lol) is something that people who own Nintendo consoles in particular really, really love.

There's some nuance between million sellers and the decent sub-500k sellers and solid 300k sellers.

Some other posters have already commented on it, but I think Story Of Seasons could also be a bigger hit than anticipated. It's a series that has stayed consistent/shown growth in other markets despite the fluctuating fortunes of Nintendo hardware over the decades. With how huge Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley have become, it's surely created a space for further games like those to prosper. The apparent word-of-mouth success of Momotaro Dentetsu and Sakuna also bodes well. I'm not sure it will matter too much if the game is good, but it's a shame the production values (and in Rune Factory 5) aren't a bit better to really cement it's chances of a big breakthrough.

I do hope Alfa System with Meteorise can make cool AA games again. Publishers would be smart to put them on Switch-specific projects. Still surprised Valkyrie Drive isn't on Switch yet. Market seems ripe for it, and PQube gets asked for it all the time and I'm sure they want it too.

Valkyrie Drive was a Takaki driven cross media project and what little chance it would have had was buried alongside Senran Kagura.

I haven't preordered BD2 because there's no special edition or something. I did the same for AoC.

Felt as if Nintendo had litle confidence in those titles.
