Although I support their decision on ethical grounds, the reason they are doing it is almost certainly to save money because then they only have to port one version of the game and are probably also distributing the same physical card worldwide, which saves on manufacturing costs.I don't understand why Nintendo isn't willing to release the uncensored version in Japan, like i get that whatever version releases it will be insignificant in the end in terms of sales, but they are willing to go as far as offering refunds and stuff lol, a lot of games they release have as much dumb fanservice and they're ok with them, they chose a very weird hill to die on.

Nintendo's playing the long con here. The angry ones buy the Wii U versions, the people who don't really care buy the new version. And the west will continue to barely care at all, but still maybe buy it cause it's a January game.
Are the two versions really that different? i've never played this game and the images i saw the only difference where the characters outfits and clevage and stuff like that.Although I support their decision on ethical grounds, the reason they are doing it is almost certainly to save money because then they only have to port one version of the game and are probably also distributing the same physical card worldwide, which saves on manufacturing costs.
Idea Factory, Compile Heart and FuRyu must be really struggling lately. They already took a hit going from PSP to PSV but now they've hit rock bottom on the Switch. The Switch just isn't working out for those small publishers.
Well from what I understand there is one slice of content which was removed from the Japanese version (it was like a swimsuit DLC or whatever, I'm not sure). Are the two versions really that different? i've never played this game and the images i saw the only difference where the characters outfits and clevage and stuff like that.
Not really talking about that one alone. I'm talking about all of them.Arc of Alchemist is a late port of a game that sold 3k on PS4 earlier this year. How was it meant to sell?

They weren't any more desirable on the PSV.The issue is that they don't have desirable games rather then the Switch.
Third parties are selling great on Switch.
A dungeon was altered, ages were altered (even revoiced to reflect change), and outfits were altered. Outside of that nothing really changed except for the fact they never localized a hot spring dlc.Are the two versions really that different? i've never played this game and the images i saw the only difference where the characters outfits and clevage and stuff like that.

not as bad as i thought.33./00. [PS4] Concrete Genie (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2019.10.10} - 1,323 / NEW
It's not just PSV to Switch that's a problem. The three main FuRyu licensed franchises (Beyblade, Doraemon and Cardfight) are considerably down on the Switch vs the 3DS games. FuRyu already announced that they were going to scale back from game development and I doubt the last couple of years did anything to change that trajectory. The only other game Compile Heart has ported was Mary Skelter 2, which was also a late port. It sold 2k on Switch vs 10k on PS4 the year before?
What has Furyu had that would have been Vita fare? Caligula Effect? A late port of a HD remake of a Vita game?
Alliance Alive was a 3DS game, and sold better on Switch than PS4.
Meanwhilst Crystar debuted with a massive 10k on PS4 last year.
Idea Factory's Otome line is the only thing you might have a point on, but the vast majority of them were ports of existing games too.
They're also clear not any more desirable on PS4 so it's weird that you're trying to frame it as a Switch problem.
Good thing Sega's business isn't 90% reliant on Japanese performance then.PS4 isn't really working for publishers like Sega versus PS3 given how Yakuza games kept selling in Japan.
Declines in Japan sales are being made up with growth in Western sales for the big publishers.PS4 isn't really working for publishers like Sega versus PS3 given how Yakuza games kept selling in Japan.

The Switch entries of Diabolik Lovers and Clock Zero are definitely not ports. They're brand new games and are way down from previous entries. Idea Factory has made themselves entirely dependent on the Switch for their otome games so obviously it is a Switch problem.
Have they released any new games, or do they have any new games planned?
The goal posts will just be shifted as usual. I'd say by about 30-40%.That bolded statement is quite something, I'll have to keep that in mind any time an exclusive series/developer shows declines.
Yeah I've certainly never seen that argument being brought up for PS4 games. Never. That bolded statement is quite something, I'll have to keep that in mind any time an exclusive series/developer shows declines.

Aren't most Diabolik Lovers games based on previously released CD drama series? I know More, Blood, Lost Eden and Dark Fate also are. Some corrections on the two otomes you mentioned.
Diabolik Lovers: Chaos Lineage (I assume you're talking about the latest Diabolik game released on Switch) was based on the Chaos Lineage CD drama series. It's a new game, but I don't know if it's a "main" entry.
Clock Zero - Shuunen no Ichibyou was originally released on PS2 back in 2010, then:
Portable on PSP, in 2011
ExTime on PSV in 2015 with new scenarios, new CGs and one extra character
Devote on Switch this year with ExTime's content and additional content set in the time the characters attend middle school

It's not a boycott, it's people who are canceling their order because they were misinformed about the game. Nintendo should have been upfront about it being a western localization.Although I support their decision on ethical grounds, the reason they are doing it is almost certainly to save money because then they only have to port one version of the game and are probably also distributing the same physical card worldwide, which saves on manufacturing costs.
Realistically, the difference in sales because of this will be insignificant. It's not really Nintendo dying on this hill, it's the people boycotting the game for a stupid reason.
Fair enough. Was just using the word colloquially in this instance. I stand by it being a stupid reason to not buy the game, however. To each their own of course. It's not a boycott, it's people who are canceling their order because they were misinformed about the game. Nintendo should have been upfront about it being a western localization.

And yet now the game is going on sale to try and push out the current stock.
Bad for retailers yes, but those are sold copies for Falcom. And yet now the game is going on sale to try and push out the current stock.
Pre-order numbers also mean digital pre-order numbers. And yet now the game is going on sale to try and push out the current stock.
West apparently can't balance the continued decline of Yakuza in Japan.Declines in Japan sales are being made up with growth in Western sales for the big publishers.
Well it has to do something since its legs are failing. Going on sale helps that I guess, but that only helps for so long.Pre-order numbers also mean digital pre-order numbers.
And they shipped 75k copies of Ys IX (assuming it didn't get a second shipment). It would get there without sales. Ys games have good legs for the genre and stronger legs than the Sen no Kiseki series according to Kondo.
A ¥500 reduction at one retailer means nothing at all on a national scale. You're being purposefully disingenuous.Well it has to do something since its legs are failing. Going on sale helps that I guess.
guess who's going to determine how many copies they'll order of falcom's next game.

I'm not, but I must say it is really rich coming from you given what you have said in the past.
I wonder how EA would fare in Japan if it still had a baseball game.Of overshipped games affected only retailers and not publishers EA would consider Japan a top tier country.
Nah, it wouldn't get near that as much as Europe loves FIFA. Unless top tier is like top 8 or something.Of overshipped games affected only retailers and not publishers EA would consider Japan a top tier country.
