I wasn't askning a question per se. I was making a point.
It's a poporn movie. Not high art. The only actual critique you can make about the popcorn movie is "is it fun?" "Was i entertained?" Did i laugh, giggle or chuckle? If yes overall, then the movie is good.
Overall, i got lots of kicks out of Venom. I chuckled. I was awed. There were some thought provoking bits. All in all, i had a good time. Therefore, the movie isn't bad, given the genre, it was good.
putting aside how you're defining "high art" and whether popcorn movies should have the bar lowered for them because they're popcorn movies, don't you think the people who are negative about this movie actually
don't think it's fun? I have not read every single review of MIB International, but of the handful I have looked at, none of the critics have said "You know I had fun with it, I got some laughs and enjoyed myself, but it's technically a bad movie, therefore I give it a rotten."
On your point about Venom -- a lot of people who saw that movie and gave it a negative review probably also thought that movie wasn't fun either. Obviously you can have fun with a bad movie, but watching a bad movie can also be a decidedly not-fun experience for a lot of people too. So if you're asking, "Is this movie fun, yes or no?" I think it's safe to say that if a majority of reviews are negative, then the answer is probably no! Doesn't mean you won't think differently...but in that case, don't ever bother with reviews.
