We finished up Fruits Basket season 2, first with a fairly normal episode, and then one with some major reveals. It isn't as, you could say, bombastic as how season 1 ended, but it was still good. There was some confusion over how Akito being a woman was a shocking reveal, but it was much easier to assume she was a man in Japanese.

Great Pretender had the grift go off without a hitch, but Edamura isn't satisfied with the outcome being to not rescue the children the company captured. It'll be interesting to see him take charge of what's next.

Hilda brought back the evil weatherlady, and also brought some nightmare fuel for the kids. It's interesting seeing this series expand on the concepts it introduced first season.

Sailor Moon S was a fun episode, showing that even Michiru is good at stealing potential love interests. Also, that car just driving into the classroom was great.

Yucie actually played around with the fact that she's actually 17 by introducing an old friend of hers that aged normally; though she seems too old for 17. I expect she won't appear again, but I think she actually is a good ship for a Yucie that looks her age.

On a side note, for the Season 9 in a Nutshell videos, there wasn't one made for the last episode.

It's a warmer video than I expected, so it was a fun watch, though there were some glaring issues like her presenting the show increasing in brony injokes as it went on as a fact and linking the porn to furries entering the fandom. Oh, and also her saying that the modern fandom is now full of gay people and they're running the cons, when it's really gay and trans people.

It was like most of her videos, in that she was largely just ranting with a thin through-line to keep her on track. The issue is that people took it to be an authoritative look at the fandom (which she herself framed it as at the start)

Troll Bridge is a fan film based on a Discworld short story by Terry Pratchett, and as a fan film, it's very impressive, especially with its troll CGI. The beginning was a bit awkward, but that was fantastic once it reached the bridge. Experiencing Pratchett's touching sentimentality again really brought me back, having not read his books in a while.

For everyone in the stream, it's been a while since they watched Rainbow Rocks. In fact, for one person, it was their first time since it came out in 2014! It remains a fun movie with great songs, but I found the middle section frustrating.

I'm fine with the high school girls being jerks to each other, but what I'm annoyed by is that Twilight's counterspell problem is entirely of her own creation. She brings it up with no prompting, and insists on sticking to that solution despite having zero clue how to do it. Then at the end, Twilight realizes they can just play whatever and it's fine as long as it bops. And this is the entire driving force behind the Rainbooms' actions throughout the movie! If Twilight had some reason to think sticking to this was the best route, it would have worked a lot better. But anyway, the beginning and ending were great.

Fantastic chapter. Loved the slices of life with Rarity and Luna, and Rarity and Twilight's silly activities. Then of course that devastating ending.

Some interpret the ending as being after Rarity's death, but I assume it's just Sweetie reacting to Twilight's treatment of Rarity. However, the fact that Sweetie never learns this book fact makes me think Twilight and Rarity never make up in life.

It also makes me think of The Stolen Book.

Also, there's a contradiction that Twilight tells Sweetie that she'll see Rarity's show in a few days, when she didn't learn about it until the day before. I'd say not a big deal, but I did go back and check, lol

We started a new Higurashi flashback art, this time to when Satoshi was around, and Shion wasn't an established presence in the town. Also, Shion is way more bonkers than we were led to believe before. It was a good episode.

Green Eggs and Ham was a fun prison break, with a pretty good Les Mis style song from the title mouse.

DC Super Hero Girls featured Ra's al Ghul as a rock superstar, which is certainly a different direction for him, and a mind-controlled Karen. Also had some fun songs. It was a good episode, other than the odd way it ends, with Ra's escaping and the girls just staying to dance.

Carole & Tuesday featured the title characters setting up their singing career more; it was alright.

Since we just watched Rainbow Rocks, it seemed appropriate to play its songs, but I don't plan on playing all of MLP's songs again.

The first OK KO episode was a good look at how toxic masculinity can screw up relationships, with an interesting flashback to Enid and Rad in middle school. The second was another episode addressing racism, this time revealing that Dendy is a kappa and pow cards exclude kappas. This story does go for the "one racist guy is convinced he's wrong" solution to racism, but it's a nice feel-good ending.

Great Pretender brought in Edamura's father, who was involved in the child trafficking racket, and had him betray the crew. Given how long this arc is, I expect bad stuff for the protagonists next episode.

Hilda was a nice heist-style episode, bringing a ton of old characters and concepts back together, with a healthy dose of environmentalism. Also, mass destruction that results in no death.

The Sailor Moon episode was a lot of fun, with drunk Usagi and a lot of silliness on the part of the villains. If you're wondering, the Cloverway dub (1) went with the foreigners speaking French instead of English, and (2) made it so Usagi got "sick" from drinking too much "juice".

Yucie was a pretty story-significant episode, revealing that Arc is actually the prince (pikachugasp) and having him caught by his family.

The season 2 premiere of The Promised Neverland seemed to be pretty widely enjoyed. It was interesting watching it with people who had no idea what was coming; I've completed the manga, and watched this episode when it came out besides.

Given how much is left of this arc, I was surprised to see that Satoshi is already gone, and we got some torture already. This was the episode with the famous fingernail peeling part, and I looked away for that. It's interesting how Shion isn't Mion's opposite, really, but is her own person.

The Green Eggs and Ham episode was nice, showing some nice bonding between Guy and EB. The rain animation with the characters' fur was amazing.

So the DC Super Hero Girls episodes I got were actually mislabeled. Also, I skipped an episode without realizing. In any case, the first episode was pretty fun. The second was much stronger, though, bringing in all the Lanterns seen so far, plus Sinestro, and having them all trying to get revenge on Hal for being a jerk to them, with some convoluted plots.

Carole & Tuesday was fun, though I'm getting the sense that the titular characters are playing very passive roles in the story. It results in the other characters all feeling more interesting.

With that first Skillet PMV, I had to stop it early to spare everyone's ears.

The first OK KO was a nice meta story with the characters reacting to the pilot, though if you hadn't seen the pilot by itself, it was a bit of a bummer that you didn't get a clear view of it a lot of times. The second, as mentioned, is actually a finale to RPG World. Even without that context, it was a fun parody of level grinding in JRPGs, and had a nice ending.

The Nickelback video got some groaning too, but we watched all of it.

Great Pretender featured the deaths of some characters, but it was so obviously part of the grift that it was hard to care. I'm sure Lawrence stumbling around in an alley and stabbing someone is also part of the grift somehow.

Hilda featured what has been described as a Dark Souls monster, with a big old kraken, and some baby krakens. It was also pointed out this season is surprisingly heavy on beheadings. The next episode has probably the biggest "you know, for kids" moments of the show, though.

This episode also featured a nice song in the credits, though they chose to play it over a black screen, so we skipped past it. Here it is.

Sailor Moon was another fun episode, featuring a lot of nice gags and moments like the lesbian theme music getting interrupted. The villain learns of everyone's identity, and shockingly, doesn't die the same episode! Next episode's title is "The Death of Uranus and Neptune: The Talismans Appear", so, uh, thanks Toei.

I'm going to show both that and the following Sailor Moon episode next week, dropping off The Promised Neverland for that stream. Also, that will allow me to get a better sense of how the anime-original parts are going.

Yucie had an alright episode, though I feel like something was wrong with the sound mixing, and the dialogue got drowned out a bit.

The Promised Neverland featured lore dumping and some great emotional moments, making it a really good episode.

I always found the idea of putting Rarity against Twilight's implied upper class upbringing interesting, and this premise of Rarity getting disappointed about how modest that really is is something I hadn't thought of. It was nice to see them share dialogue about that, and just have a conversation.

To pile on with the corrections, you used "people" at one point, lol.

This was a nicely written story, and you did a great job with the descriptions. I will say that from the tags, I did see the ending coming; I was only really confused by the fact that Rainbow actually pulled off her Rainboom. I agree with the above comment in that the ending was a bit hamfisted, but I don't think it would take much adjusting to make it land much better.

Covid story? Covid story.

Or at least that's how I interpreted it. There have been depression fics that I've read on FimFiction before that are sort of like this, but the entire thing about Rarity starting projects then leaving them abandoned, plus the rain outside, gives a real Covid feeling.

This was a very well done dream/imagination story, and you did a wonderful job writing evocative imagery. The bit about the rain mixing with Rarity's blood and going into her heart especially stands out.

In Higurashi, everyone's hero Keiichi is back! And still not the sharpest tool in the shed. We got some stuff we saw in previous loops, which was odd, though there were also new moments. It was an alright episode.

Green Eggs and Ham featured some great action scenes. It's crazy seeing the animation quality in this show.

The first DC Super Hero Girls episode was fun, though the resolution of Diana just not causing any trouble in the last home felt odd. With the second episode, I was surprised to see them go into Hawkman's weird reincarnation backstory. They left things unresolved, so I wonder if they intend to revisit this.

Carole & Tuesday slowly developed things more. I still say that the titular characters are the least interesting parts of it.

YouTube videos have a "night" theme.

The first OK KO episode had backstory for KO's mom, revealing that Mr. Gar used to be the luchador-themed hero El-Bow, and they were teammates with Ripper Roo the fantastical kangaroo. The second episode was one we watched before, in October 2019, and it was still good this time. Witch Enid is a nice look.

In Great Pretender, I had missed at the end of the previous episode that it started a flashback, but I knew that going in this time. It was a nice flashback, and things definitely aren't going to go wrong for the old crew in the next episode.

Hilda was a huge example of "for the kids" storytelling, with alternate timeline versions of characters being eaten by a timeworm and being erased from existence (and characters referring to this as dying). It was an interesting episode even outside that.

The first Sailor Moon was Ikuhara going all out with directing. Lots of interesting scenes, integrating humor and drama together. Plus, we had Haruka straight up killing herself. For kids! This sort of thing really did lead to trouble for Ikuhara, and SuperS had to be toned down a lot. The second episode was a clear downgrade from the first, but still had neat stuff. Also, the intro visuals changed for the first episode, spoiling the outcome of these episodes and the appearance of Super Sailor Moon.

The Yucie episode was alright, focusing on the assistant characters. I don't think we learned too much about them, really, though.

I've always been a fan of this movie, and it's still great revisiting it now. The music is fantastic, and there are some great animation showcases. However, the pacing and story definitely go downhill once Starscream is killed and everyone is just going to random planets. Still, the high-budget all out attack from the Decepticons is still fantastic.

And got around to reading this! It was a nice story with a lot of interesting ideas. I think things like Cadance's past bullying and the love spell she cast would have been better if they were shown, rather than just described by Shining and Celestia; and I think Celestia should have just led Shining into a misunderstanding of what she meant rather than outright lying about her desire to not have Shining marry Cadance; but other than that, you did a good job.

Trans Cadance is a headcanon of mine, too, and it's always nice to hear about her pre-series life.

I said going into the first episode that no one would be killed in it. Indeed, someone just died of unrelated causes and then someone beat her body. It was interesting seeing more of the second timeline from Shion's perspective.

Green Eggs and Ham featured the famous scene with Sam's tragic backstory. What I didn't know was the shocking twist that Sam was working for the villain the whole time, which was a legit surprise. The episode was good.

The first DCSHG episode was a pretty standard fast-growing pet episode, but it was fun. Also, some continuity with Diana's new home. In the second, Katana's voice sounded odd; I wonder if this was due to recording from home. It was an interesting enough episode.

Carole & Tuesday was a bit confusing, in that I thought there weren't any big non-AI singers anymore, yet here we have a big concert of live performers. It's hard to make sense of what's special about the leads. Otherwise, it was good.

This is fantastic so far. The Rarity narration at the start was a highlight, but the third person narration was great too. I love the way you describe the grimy nature of the city, right out of noir.

From her purse, Rarity withdrew a necklace with a small crystal set into its center. In the dim lighting of the Lounge, it almost seemed to glow with a purple-pink effervescence. "The woman I'm looking for is Twilight Sparkle."

This was another great chapter. I loved both the past and present parts. I think it's safe to assume what Nightmare Moon's deal is, but I'm curious how that'll play out in the story. Surprised to see Fluttershy and now Sunset pop up.

I was surprised to see Rarity act so aggressively during the questioning, though given how they acted outside, I assume that was partially part of the act. It was fun to see Plainity show up; clever that it was a bad enough disguise to look specifically like an undercover cop.

It'll be interesting to see how the shootout is handled next chapter.

YouTube videos had a love theme, of course, with it being Valentine's day. There are a surprising number of videos where people just rank ships, that get a surprising number of views.

Both OK KO episodes were major. The first had plot significance, with KO confronting Shadowy Figure again and the major MacGuffin of the show (the glorb tree) being introduced; plus, there was Mr. Gar learning to dad. The second was a surprisingly sincere crossover with Captain Planet. That's not to say they didn't make jokes about it, with Kwame saying the other Planeteers got real jobs, but the heroes are all respectful of each other, Captain Planet is given Jojo poses, and they teach a real lesson about climate change.

The two Great Pretender episodes ended the flashback the way you'd expect, with Laurent's love interest dying and things turning out badly (fully explaining the ending's visuals). Now, things are getting set up for the big revenge. We just have two episodes left.

Hilda was a slightly longer episode, featuring flashbacks with littler Hilda meeting Twig, pet running away sadness, Twig's parents, and finally Twig coming home. It really did feel like a season finale, and people were surprised there are actually a fair number more.

Sailor Moon introduced the new format for the new henchman, and it just isn't as fun as the car and gun shenanigans. It was also weird how similar the new attack animation is to the last one, making it feel oddly cheap. Still, it was a fun episode, and finally got around to introducing Hotaru and revealing her father is the villain.

Yucie was alright. It was interesting to see Elmina actually get emotional.

It was frustrating seeing Cadance lie through her teeth to Twilight, but thankfully things were exposed after that. Everyone assembling at the end was a bit cheesy, but this is still MLP, after all.

To those confused as to why Cadance wasn't arrested, we just had a real life example of how such a trial would go.

Higurashi continued the story of this timeline, with the most notable bit being the famous moment of Rika stabbing herself in the head, which we saw back in timeline 2. One person tried to tune in just for that moment, but was a bit too late.

Green Eggs and Ham was a slightly longer episode, but it went by quickly with some fun undersea travel and boat action. Also, the revelation that BADGUYS are actually, well, good guys. We're coming up to the end!

Speaking of which, we got the final episodes of DC Super Hero Girls! Surprisingly, this is a completely standalone story and doesn't feel particularly like a season finale. Heck, it barely justifies being a two-parter. I feel like it's really just a two-parter because they had too much fun with the Ren Faire setting to fit the story in one episode, but there wasn't enough for two episodes without stretching out the fight with the villain. The fight had some interesting animation and moves from the villain, at least. There might be a meta joke regarding MLP with the lesson about how there are different kinds of princesses, but still, it's an odd finale. It's cute, though.

Then, in Carole & Tuesday, we started the Mars' Brightest Arc, and I'm still confused about what the state of the music world is. I thought it was all AI songs, but there are a lot of participants here. It was odd that in a music-themed series, they cut away from the lead characters' song. It was a fun episode, though.

YouTube videos had a trick/theft theme.

The OK KO episodes were a lot of fun, more so than I remembered. The first was a good Romeo & Juliet style story, though it's a shame that this stuff with Shannon and Rad doesn't lead to anything after this. The second episode was a nice look at how kids use YouTube, and was really cute.

We finished Great Pretender, and the final grift was pretty ridiculous. If just drugging the targets and moving them without realizing was an option, then they really didn't need to construct an entire fake building and all that. Having all the previous targets get together, showing they still have all their money and influence still, is really weird too.

Hilda was a fun Christmas-y story, featuring one of the more weird and gruesome Christmas myths. And it's a pretty accurate depiction, or at least shows great familiarity with it while making changes.

Sailor Moon was another fun one, though the current villain just doesn't have as good a gimmick as the last one.

Yucie advanced the prince's storyline, and it seems like things are heading toward the endgame. Which does make it weird that Beth apparently isn't going to get much focus.

This is a good movie with great music design and a nice lesson. However, I do feel that the beforelife setting feels like an also-ran for previous Pixar work and didn't feel all that interesting as a result. The start of the bit where 22 controls Joe's body had a lot of cringe humor that felt awkward. Also, fuck Mother Teresa. Anyway, everyone enjoyed it.

Higurashi ended this timeline with child murder, the reveal that timeline 2 actually had Keiichi talking to Shion, and another view of how that timeline ended. Surprisingly, it ended before that timeline.

We finished up this season of Green Eggs and Ham, and it was a lot of fun. Guy finally said the big speech against eating green eggs and ham, this time as a heartbreaking moment, and then we got him trying it as a friends reuniting moment. There were even some unexpected twists. Overall, this is a really well done series.

Carole & Tuesday had some more bands playing, and honestly, they should have lost against the Latin Rap guy. If this is what AI generated songs are doing, while the no-AI heroes are singing such generic stuff, then that isn't a great point in favor of no-AI.

Next week, we'll be leaving two slots open semi-permanently for whatever we want. That week, we'll be trying out the dub of So I'm a Spider, So What.

Ponies are back on the stream! It's always interesting going back to a season one episode, when the show hasn't quite settled on its pacing and how characters act. This episode has a lot of nice gags, but the story is still quite odd with a strange moral. Even knowing it isn't meant to be, it's impossible to not read it as religious in nature. Aside from that, I liked details such as Fluttershy remembering "a hop, skip, and jump" and Twilight thinking of what Rainbow Dash would do. If the show had continued under Faust, I wonder if we would have seen more moments like that in the early post-her seasons.

OK KO had two stories that take place at the same time, focusing on the villains. Both were alright, but the second was interesting for having a weird Rugrats feel to the music and having some fun stuff with Fink.

We doubled up on Hilda with two fun episodes. The first was particularly wild, with both a Twilight Zone style odd run of success for a random man brought about by supernatural aid, and a Ghostbusters sequence at the end. The second involved elf society. I'm not a fan of how, by introducing elves with dark skin, it showed that all the elves we've seen until now are in fact white, but the new fangirl elf is good.

Sailor Moon S was pretty good, with a surprisingly chill male idol. People definitely noticed that Mimete is clearly less competent than her predecessor.

Well, looks like I spoke too soon about Beth, since she was a major part of this Yucie episode, and from titles, at least one more episode after this. Once again, Cocoloo seems to do a better job demonstrating friendship than Yucie. I was surprised to see that the song at the end was dubbed, but that was sort of normal for this era of dubbing.

The long and short of it is that this is a mediocre film. It isn't as obnoxious as some other things we've watched before, but there was also very little of interest. The songs are pretty decent, and the character designs aren't the worst. There's a Toy Story sort of set up with how toys work, but mixed with the Beforelife aspects of Soul in a way. It does get confusing in this regard at points, though, particularly where these toy worlds came from. Also, this has the creepiest baby robot I've ever seen.

We tried out So I'm a Spider, So What?, another series in the line of adaptations of isekai light novels targeted toward girls instead of boys. There was some unevenness and confusion with the human side of the story, but the spider side was definitely a hit with the viewers. I think there's a good chance we'll be streaming this in full at some point; I'll let the dub fill out more episodes first, though.

Higurashi started a new arc, and had a fun water gun battle, but it was hard to tell what it was going for with the ending with the gangsters.

Carole & Tuesday had the famous "fuck" song, and the Mermaid Sisters really should have won for that. Carole and Tuesday continue to be the weakest part of the show.

With Hilda's episode, YouTube videos had a rock theme.

The FiM episode was a lot of fun. You know, it's weird thinking of this as something in the first half of the show, but indeed, this is from the one season that had both Alicorn Twilight and the library. There's a lot to like here, from the Teacher Twilight scenes, to the moments where she and Rainbow fly together, to the entire town coming together to help Rainbow.

OK KO started with a pretty significant episode, introducing Enid and Red Action's relationship; you could read it as friendship here, but later episodes confirm it's a romance. The second episode had not only fun Dendy moments, but also introduced Ernesto to combat and brought his neat theme music.

The Hilda season finale was a nice adventure, though it felt a bit padded and didn't work quite that well as a season finale. However, it seems that this is leading into a movie, so we'll see how that goes.

Sailor Moon S was another fun one, and developed the intrigue with Hotaru. Also had a weird "adult woman in preschool outfit" fetish monster.

Yucie finally visited the spirit world, and it was fun. Also, looks like we have a final villain for the show. Just in time to start doubling up the episodes!

Next week, we'll start watching Kid Cosmic, by Craig McCracken.

Well, that was bad.

The CG animation for all the animals was solid enough, but the integration into the real environments was pretty rough.

The human parts, though, were absolutely terrible. So much awkward silence and unfunny improv, and they all do a very bad job acting like they're in the same place as the cartoon animals.

Giving a movie-length story to Tom and Jerry is a fool's errand, but they appear to have done a worse job than the 90's movie, according to the one person in the chat who had seen it.

The person who hadn't seen The Devil is a Part-Timer wasn't there in time, so that aspect was wasted. In any case, these two episodes were fun. I feel they skip past too much of the protagonists getting used to our world, but these first episodes are when the series is at its best. Personally, I feel it gets quite mediocre after this point, which is why I'm fine just streaming the first two episodes.

Higurashi featured murder, and then friendship coming to the rescue to cover up the murder, which was pretty amusing. I'm sure it'll all turn out fine.

Carole & Tuesday continued the contest, and the songs were nice. Not much else to say.

Videos followed a Pinkie Pie theme for Pi Day, of course.

"A Friend in Deed" is, of course, known for having a fantastic song tied to a largely infuriating episode. A surprising number of stream emotes had come from this episode specifically, though, and ultimately, it's still fun. Cranky shouldn't have given in and called Pinkie a friend, though.

OK KO finally explained what's going on in the sandwich flashback, and, at Jojo conversation speed, had Mr. Gar and Carol make up at last. It was good as a bit of lore, and nice in general. The second episode was less interesting, focusing on two background characters. Other than the barely metaphorical drug sequence, there's little to this episode, and barely anything from it persists to later, as I recall.

We started Kid Cosmic with a pretty fun first episode. Seems like people enjoyed it. People instantly recognized Tom Kenny as the voice of the alien.

Sailor Moon was pretty good. Mamoru introducing Usagi and Chibi-usa as his future wife and future daughter was a particularly popular gag scene, along with Tuxedo Mask getting upset the monster of the week is using roses too. It's kind of silly that Haruka saw Hotaru use magic last episode, but is still like, "Eh, I don't know, something's off with her but I don't know what."

In the first Yucie episode, I guess everyone had trained for combat in between all the slice of life stories we watched or something. It's surprising that this big fight with a dragon happened in the fourth to last episode, rather than the end. I wonder what the actual end will be like. Anyway, there was some good animation, and it was fun. The second episode was largely set up.

Well that was definitely better than Children of the Sea. Also significantly less trippy, which is a surprise coming from Masaaki Yuasa. Though I suppose he already had a bunch of other down to earth stuff by this point.

People generally liked the straightforward romance of the first 30 minutes more than the rest, but they all still enjoyed it. The water animation was great, too.

The Hollow is a series that some FiM animation people worked on, so I was interested in checking it out, but not interested enough to watch it on my own. It's potentially interesting, and there's some neat stuff, but it's brought down by Kai being a really annoying character, and the episode premises don't quite elevate past "OK". I'm not particularly interested in watching more.

Higurashi revealed that there is actually a scientific explanation for everything going on. Well, the people going crazy, at least. It's basically a Resident Evil situation. It will be interesting to see where that goes.

Carole & Tuesday continued the contest. The title characters had a better song this time, but them winning their match still felt pretty contrived. Also, everyone keeps accusing people of things without saying what they're actually accusing them of.

YouTube videos followed a Cutie Mark Crusaders theme.

The FiM episode was a lot of fun. The song is good, and Bloofy is one of the best random fantasy creatures of the show.

The first OK KO episode was a notable bit of character development for Dendy, and also advanced KO's ability to control TKO. Plus Dexter's Lab references. The second is a pretty well-known gun control episode, and it's good for that, though the fact that the skeletons can still shoot people after being hit muddles the message a bit.

Kid Cosmic was a fun episode exploring how two more of the rings work, and everyone in the stream enjoyed it.

Sailor Moon S was the source of this GIF!

The humor was especially Utena-like this time, with the villains playing Twister for no reason and random referees that speak only in whistles.

And then we got to the finale of Yucie. The reason for why the friends had to split up felt somewhat contrived, but it was still a nice emotional story. Though I really don't get why they just go back to school after they already graduated. Overall, the show could be dull at times, but it was fun overall.

1. I Lost My Body

The movie was alright. The non-metaphorical aspect was a decent enough, as the story of a normal person's life, though it was silly seeing him as the clumsiest man on Earth making every bad decision. The metaphorical hand part had some upsetting animal killing, but it was otherwise interesting. The entire metaphor got muddled by the film stopping for us to see it fight rats and such, though.

Animation-wise, it was pretty good, given it was going for a realistic style.

Also, forgot to mention in the announcement post, but we decided to move Tuesday and Thursday streams to an hour earlier, at 4 PM PT.

"She Talks to Angel" is still a fun episode, though it's a shame the other Mane Six weren't around to react to Angel-as-Fluttershy. Also, the dynamics of how animals interact here are pretty horrifying.

OK KO had a fun set of episodes. The Mr. Logic backstory is a bit odd, in that I'm pretty sure it never comes up again. The second episode started a theme of trucks dying this stream.

Kid Cosmic brought the full team together with a good cat.

Since one person hadn't caught up to Spider, we moved the Sailor Moon S movie to before it. Compared to the R movie, this definitely falls short. The story of Luna falling in love with this Male Haruka could have been done in a normal episode and doesn't at all fear movie-scale. Plus it's weird. Really weird. The villain is very boring compared to R, other than the surprising level of horny the design gets away with. It doesn't feel like there are any standout animation moments either. All in all, it just felt like a meh episode extended to hour length. Also, the Outer Senshi helped out without needing any goading or ulterior motive; that's how you know it isn't show-canon.

Then in Spider, we got an extended look at the human side, which was just alright. That made it the weakest of the episodes we've watched so far, I think, but it wasn't bad.

And with that, our time with The Guardian Code is over!

The first episode started normally enough, but then it turned out to be about the heroes making a rap(???) about themselves, accidentally putting it online, and then having to go Guardian and harass file sharing binomes to stop it from being shared.

I was concerned that skipping some episodes may make things confusing, but they didn't at all. Second episode took place in the same Social Media City area as the first and there were no issues of continuity. I did have to mention that Megabyte was acting on his own now, but things barely seemed different. Megabyte's plan, seemingly to just spread a video of himself laughing, was pretty dumb. Also took over 85% of the Internet this way. Yet also just forgot to take over the biggest social media site (which they use interchangeably with "file sharing site"). Megabyte is captured at the end, and the show commits the sin of showing Hexadecimal's expression changing on screen.

Notably, we got a stream GIF from all this, and I made a tweet.


Megabyte and Hex both break out in the episode we skipped, but then they don't appear in the last two episodes outside of the very end, so that didn't matter.

I have to say, playing a character with a split good/evil personality must be the greatest thing that can happen to an actor. The Sourceror's chewing scenery and twisting his face to fight back his evil side, and seeming to have a great time doing this.

There's just so much dumb stuff to bring up, from the government only having 2-3 people assigned to all this, to how they just lean over and watch one guy do all the typing, to the Cyber Black Hole. And in the end, they dangle Megabyte and Hexadecimal free and acting on their own in front of Reboot fans, as if to say, "Hey, if this is successful, then in season 3, you'll finally get what you want!"

There won't be a season 3.

Yes, this is a Rarity as Jesus story
Chapter 1

This was a really interesting story. Casting Rarity as Jesus makes sense, with her generosity. I had to laugh (in a good way) at the crowd choosing to release Tirek; bit of an upgrade from some random guy, lol. I only really know the broad strokes of the Jesus story, so I don't know who in particular everyone is meant to be, but the fic worked regardless.

The romance between Twilight and Rarity here is interesting, especially since it switches around who is the "divine" one in these stories. Twilight fits as the one being unable to fully accept Rarity's divinity but still loving her. You did a good job not having the Jesus side overwhelm Rarity's personality.

I will say that the sequence where Twilight goes back and forth from the balcony and audience chamber was awkward, though. These are separate locations, yet there's little to indicate this and the story spends little time describing the crowd.

Videos followed a Twilight theme. The second one uses a song from Ugly Dolls—I don't blame you for forgetting about it.

Pony Life was fun. I had forgotten how great a lot of the BGM was, watching the old episode. Regarding the new episode, my thoughts remain the same compared to my Pony Life thread post. Though watching the entire thing at the correct speed was nice.

The FiM episode was still good, and filled with gags I had forgotten about. Most notably, Flurry Heart treating the peasant babies like the pawns they are. There was also a use of the instrumental theme song that surprised me; I figured they stopped that after season one.

OK KO was the season one finale, featuring the conquering of KO's evil side (for now at least) and the defeat of Boxman Jr., who oddly never shows up again. Mr. Gar jobs for the first time, too! The action sequences were great, and it was a nice season finale.

Kid Cosmic was a big montage of stories, with the perfect amount of time spent on each one, all to demonstrate the point that Kid is feeling bad about how everyone else is more useful to the team than him. It's a very deftly handled episode, and I'd say it's my favorite of the series.

Sailor Moon S was a fun dimensional warping episode, featuring interesting stuff like the series villain having to rely on the Sailor Guardians for help, and a D'Arby-like villain. Well, except for the fact that she blatantly cheats to beat all of the Sailor Guardians, then loses because she just doesn't cheat for some reason. Still, good episode.

Spider was 100% spider, which made it a popular one for people in the stream. There's something satisfying about seeing Kumoko be able to grind against enemies that are stronger than her and thus powerleveling quickly, plus taking advantage of the fact that she heals upon level up. Though she did just commit monkey genocide.

Burn the Witch all together is under an hour, so when looking for something to stream with it, I realized I had never actually seen Our War Game outside of how it was presented in Digimon: The Movie. Granted, it doesn't look like anyone bothered to provide a version of it from after 2000 or so, but we'll make due.

Burn the Witch is actually a single movie, but it was split into three episodes for distribution. And I couldn't not include those Kubo-ass episode titles.

This was a nice ending to the story, and it was good seeing Rarity still giving fashion advice during her torment.

I will say that Rarity returning to Twilight felt oddly under-described. This is one place where purple prose was warranted, but it felt perfunctory.

I decided to go with the interpretation from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gospel_of_Judas since having the Judas expy hang herself was a little too dark for my tastes.

I see that article has a picture of Jesus and Judas kissing. RariShy confirmed.

Moondancer has a plan to get away from it all. Minuette has a similar plan, only hers just involves joining Moondancer on her airship and hunting for a fabled lost treasure. Moondancer has a few problems with Minuette's plan.

Burn the Witch is something I had the tab open for for months and months without ever getting around to watching it, up until this stream. I have to say, it's nice to see some well animated Kubo Tite material, and without the convoluted story and fights of late Bleach. The story here isn't that great, but there are some neat action sequences and fun concepts, and that's all you're going to Kubo for.

This was my first time watching Our War Game in its original form. Comparing it to Summer Wars, the concept is definitely less developed, including the fact that the kids don't even realize the nuke was aimed at them until after it's resolved and that the people around the world sending emails didn't deliberately try to slow down the villain. However, just the fact that this involves Digimon makes the concept of defeating the villain by fighting it make way more sense than in Summer Wars.

In the story itself, it's interesting how it goes out of its way to not include the entire Digidestined in the battle, since most of them are busy or otherwise not available. Given it's the big Adventure movie, only involving a few characters in the action is an interesting choice.

It's also interesting seeing how of its time the technology is, with Matt/Yamato having to struggle to find a computer and only finding one in a random barbershop. The internet being on phone lines is a major plot point. The fact that Tai/Taichi shaking the monitor made it go blue screen of death.

There's also the odd way in which it undermines aspects of the show. Izzy/Koshiro mentions that the heroes turned out to not be as closely tied as they thought. When the digimon are hurt in cyberspace, it cuts to TK/Takeru crying while other adults in the room just shrug.

Overall, it was a lot of fun, and full of great gags. It was lacking potato juice, though.

Well, Cleopatra in Space was a kids action show set in a school. I was hoping the Egyptian flavor would lead to more, but no, no references to mythology, no references to Cleopatra's life, just the names Nile Galaxy and PYRAMID and some sort of Egyptian colors. It was alright, but certainly not anything we had interest in continuing. This does have a bizarrely detailed Wikipedia article, though. Which has a single paragraph that seems to indicate this isn't a great adaptation of the graphic novels this is based on.

Higurashi ended this arc and this season with a school hostage situation, resolved with a rather silly rooftop sword/bat fight. In the end, no one else dies and things seem to be fine, or so it seems. The time loop continues regardless. Depending on if Infinity Train is available in time, that'll be replacing Higurashi for a time, before we get back to it once that's done.

Carole & Tuesday had a new OP and ED, neither of which I like as much as the last set. The new ED is stronger than the new OP. This episode was interesting, showing them getting used to their new fame.

We got a double dose of Detective Rarity, not counting the YouTube videos. Those MLP episodes were fun. "Dear Tabby" was almost definitely a voice actor work, with Tabby turning out to be Rarity. The second Pony Life episode was nice too.

OK KO started off the new season with a really meta episode about timeskips that was a lot of fun, and the second episode showed that (1) being shot into the sun isn't that big a deal in this universe, and (2) set the status quo of the season regarding the antagonists. It was good too.

Kid Cosmic was a really fun episode about the rest of the town finding out about the aliens and powers during a siege. Kid being tricked into thinking he did well last episode ends up coming into play just an episode later.

Sailor Moon S finally confirmed that Hotaru is Sailor Saturn, and all the characters found this out. This led to an intense moment where all the Outer Senshi attack her at once, though we're denied the "villain easily deflects the attacks" moment thanks to Usagi pushing her out of the way. Besides that, we notably have an oddly astronomically inclined DJ as the victim, and a monster that literally wears star pasties. Also Tuxedo Mask actually making things worse. It was a good episode.

In any case, it's a lot of fun seeing this huge family interact, and the fights with Love Machine are a lot of fun. It's interesting how even this movie is very much of its era regarding how the Internet works, particularly with everyone hooking important things to a single service and no one using 2FA.

No Infinity Train yet after all.

Carmen Sandiego was prompted by the recent Defunctland video, of course. This two-parter turned out to be pretty fun, and as a plus, had actual semi-decent run animations. There's a fair amount of interest in continuing this.

Higurashi Kai followed up on the final arc of the previous series, making it not the worst extra episode to watch before a break. It was a lot of lore dumping, or rather speculation dumping. Seeing an adult Rena was interesting; for a few people in the stream, it was a surprise to discover the main parts of the series took place in 1983; it is easy to forget. There was a new opening, which appears to be the more popular of the two; or at least it's the one that got a Ponified version. I like it more, due to the song and visuals not being so in your face.

Carole & Tuesday had some fun moments with the new producer, and some fake parent grifters for Tuesday, and finally a nice moment with her real dad.

One of the Pony Life episodes focused on Applejack, so went with an Applejack theme.

"Apple Family Reunion" is an episode I haven't seen in a while. It isn't a terrible episode, though still unremarkable aside from the meta aspects like how this introduced Granny Smith's Golden Girls crew and the non-vampire fruit bats, and marked the last speaking appearance of Babs; she also uses every Brooklynism out there.

The Pony Life episodes were enjoyable (see my Pony Life thread post).

OK KO's first episode was fun, with some good creepy Dendy appearing out of nowhere, and some Mario Kart music. The second was a good showcase of the food truck chef character.

Kid Cosmic was the big confrontation with the big bad with Kid using all five rings himself! Except it turned out Chuck's boss is a big loser, and the real threat is AMERICA. This was a good episode for action and drama.

Sailor Moon finally introduced Mugen Academy (which Wikipedia called Infinity Academy despite the episode itself not using that name), which was significant in the manga version of this arc from the start. We get some backstory for what happened to the Professor and Hotaru, and Mimette is finally defeated to make room for the remaining three members of the Witches 5. Only seven episodes left for them to do anything. Interestingly, other than Sailor Moon herself, none of the Sailor Guardians used stock animation for their attacks.

Spider featured more monster fighting and more skill gaining. On the humans side, we got to see what Kumoko actually looks like—she doesn't have a mirror, so the moe face was just her imagination—and we made the demon lord who's eating the Earth in the intro at last. Finally, the bully character is upset! Oh no, I guess. The cave section with the humans was good, the school parts not so much.

This was a pretty decent movie overall, but the story is very standard and it's weaker in the middle. The animation and music are fantastic, especially during the song after Arlo is rejected by his father. The characters are largely underdeveloped other than Arlo and Bertie, but perhaps they're being saved for the upcoming series. The fish guy is the character that feels least needed among the main cast.

Also, I'm quite confused about the genetics of this world.

Final chapter

Great final chapter! Sure, perhaps it wasn't their own dimension that was in any danger, but the ponies did their part to put an end to the endless wars.

Admittedly, it was a bit hard to follow what was going on at times, and Fluttershy being adamant that the bugs being impossible to reason with feels at odds with her successfully telling them to leave, but everything wrapped up well.

I hadn't considered that Rarity would have to divest from her stores. Even if they took a more Cheeto-faced view of this, Rarity still couldn't run her business in the same way, with the same assurance that her business comes from appreciation of her designs and not from her connections. It was pretty heartbreaking to see Rarity's reaction, but it was really nice seeing Celestia there to comfort her.

And of course, there's no doubt that Rarity will leave a legacy of her own... besides the things she'll already be in the history book for.

Forgot to mention before, but Central Park is a musical show from the Bob's Burgers people. The stories and characters weren't the most enthralling or funny, but it was very charming and the songs were good. I didn't expect it to have an overall story, but that is the trend, I suppose.

Infinity Train is back! First of all, this turned out to be a prequel season, from what appears to be a 90's level of tech, to the scene of Amelia and a one-personality One-One, which was interesting. Unusually, the characters don't even got onto the train until the end of the first episode. It's a pretty slow start for the season, and the second episode is very much a back to basics story, which is a surprise after the previous two seasons had strong hooks. That isn't to say it's uninteresting. The leads are interesting enough.

Carole & Tuesday was a pretty uneventful episode. It introduced a seemingly important nonbinary character (who had some weird justification for why they were nonbinary) and then they died right as the episode ended. Not much to say about it.

Videos followed a time theme.

"It's About Time" is still a good episode. I remember when this was about to come out, from the synopsis, that people were expecting this to be a story significant episode. Which it wasn't. But then it was! Cerberus escaping turned out to be very story significant. Though I did have to step away for a while during the second half.

Pony Life was alright, though didn't make as good use of the time travel concept as I would have hoped.

OK KO was a fun set of episodes. The first had some fun film festival parodies, and the second was a good side character showcase.

The two Kid Cosmic episodes were paired together due to the second being only 14 minutes long. Tuna Sandwich the cat got his showcase, with his new ability to talk, and Chuck is now speaking with his natural voice. It was fun getting the crew back together. Of course, the government agency is living the dream by using the stones of power to create a Power Rangers team. The second episode had fun action sequences with new aliens that curiously match the powers of the rings, though despite the short length, it still felt oddly padded.

I think that I'll go ahead and double up Kid Cosmic episodes next week too.

Sailor Moon put a new member of the Witches 5 into play... and she's dead by the end of the episode. This is actually more or less how it works in the manga with these minibosses, but it's unusual to see it in the anime. Her evil flower plan was pretty good, but Tuxedo Mask continues to be the MVP. Though they never did address the flowers that already went out to other people. Hotaru just walking around the city and deciding to visit Chibi-usa was odd, given how everyone was looking for her.

Spider was a human heavy episode, but it established the fact that these abilities we've gotten used to are actually really weird. Someone it out there actually creating these abilities for some greater goal, and this really freaks out Kumoko. I wonder what's up with the teacher elf, that she'd be able to strip abilities away from someone.

1. Little Shop of Horrors

We watched the director's cut with the intended ending, which was a first for one person in the stream. For me, this was my first time watching this at all, though I had actually seen a college performance of this a decade ago with a surprisingly good Audrey II puppet. Despite that, I had forgotten that the dentist song was from this.

The movie was good, with nice songs, and it had really impressive physical effects. I don't see the upcoming remake beating this, especially that big kaiju ending. That was definitely better than the theatrical ending.

The first Invincible episode was way more chill and relaxed than I expected for most of it. Just a nice father-son bonding story. But then the twist comes with the ending, when it gets violent. That lost people a bit, but it definitely served a purpose as a contrast. The show seems worth watching more of, though perhaps not in the stream. Animation especially was better than I expected for 45 minute episodes (a first for any animated show I've seen).

Infinity Train was an alright set of episodes, though definitely of a lower quality than this point in previous seasons. The giant pig baby with nipples was certainly upsetting. The characters are fun, though.

Carole & Tuesday was surprisingly another episode about them meeting an old singer that wasn't mentioned before, though this one involves backstory of a major character. Things still feel disconnected from Carole and Tuesday themselves, though.

Videos followed a Portal theme, thanks to Pony Life. There was a convenient series that was six videos long, from the person who'd later make the Pony Sims videos, so I just had to use them. They were alright.

"Top Bolt" is still a fun episode. I forgot that we see a future Washout among the candidates here. Vapor Trail (and Sky Stinger I guess) are good characters, and it's a shame we didn't see more of them.

Pony Life was alright. Views haven't changed from my post in the Pony Life thread.

OK KO was a fun set of episodes, the first more so than the second. For some reason the worm monster having that stock scream got me. It was also just really nice seeing Mr. Gar and Carol have a good date. The second episode established some of the intrigue with POINT, but also made them look really incompetent. Why is Chip Damage respected, again?

Kid Cosmic resolved season one by repeatedly attempting to stop the fighting, and Kid finally realizes that his power isn't flight, but telekinesis. This makes it a much stronger power than everyone assumed. I still think this set of episodes is too dragged out, though. In any case, it'll be interesting to see how things are handled in season 2, now that they're in space.

Sailor Moon S introduced another member of the former Witches 5, and killed her the same episode. There was some stuff with Ami, but ultimately she doesn't play much of a role in her defeat. Also, it's weird seeing nanomachines come up in Sailor Moon. The episode was alright, but it looks like things really start cooking next time.

Spider was good, featuring some flashbacks to the previous school life, and Kumoko's other parallel minds finally appearing. Her fight with the dragon was pretty fun. Also I guess she died, so show's over.

Eizouken went over pretty well, and there was a lot of interest in continuing this. The explanations of how animation works and the inventive imagination sequences were charming. I've already seen this, but I suppose it's been a bit.

Infinity Train was alright, but everyone felt that this is a weaker season than the others. There simply isn't as strong an overarching story. It feels like a back to basics season, but oddly even more so than season one.

Carole & Tuesday was an alright episode about the dangers of Bitcoin. I once again have to mention how the title characters are the least interesting part of the show.

Videos followed a Cadance theme. In retrospect, I should have played "A Flurry of Emotions" as a Mother's Day episode.

In "Three's a Crowd", I had forgotten that it took so long to get to the actual story of Discord bothering Twilight and Cadance. It certainly wasn't a terrible episode, but it was still a shame to miss out on a story where Twilight and Cadance just hang out for a while. Discord's song is fun (though badly sung) and the tatzlwurm fight sequence is neat. I had forgotten about the bit of continuity with Fluttershy going off to see the Breezies.

The Pony Life episode was fun. Everyone was baffled by the fact that Shining Armor is a circus ringleader now. Just two weeks of episodes left now.

OK KO was a fun set of episodes, the former showcasing KO and Dendy's teacher and the latter presenting Boxmore as a reality show. Highlight was Ernesto's drama breakdown.

We started Amphibia! I had forgotten how these early episodes went, so it was interesting to watch these again. The show seemed to go over well, with people in particular bringing up how surprisingly hardcore the wildlife in Amphibia is.

Sailor Moon brought out the final witch of the Witches 5, and it turns out there were two of them! Still dead, though, and same with Kaolinite, as Mistress 9 is revived. And another young girl turns into an adult evil version. People noticed that if the Witches 5 just started out with this pair, that could just pull pure hearts out of people without doing anything in particular, things would have gone a lot easier for them.

Spider featured the defeat of the dragon, and more intrigue with however is in charge of the system behind the skills and levels, with Kumoko actually meeting someone involved. On the human side, we get the revelation that the beginning parts at least of Kumoko's story are set 15 years before the human parts. This means that everyone was literally reborn into this world; as a spider, Kumoko was simply able to start getting things done well before everyone else. There are strong hints that the demon lord is Kumoko, but who knows if that's how it'll play out.

Well, that was a movie. The concept is both bland and nonsensical, with some of the most craven product placement I've seen in a movie since... Wreck It Ralph 2, really. Jokes were bad. Animation was actually solid, which only makes me feel bad for the animators.

Though in terms of quality, between the two, The Emoji Movie is definitely number two.

As a pick me up, we watched Captain Yajima after, which is a fun and cozy little short that isn't what it seems. Not only is it from an American animator and not a Japanese one, it isn't even stop motion! It's actually CGI imitating stop motion.

Eizouken was another solid episode, involving the planning of their first short.

Carmen Sandiego oddly decided to introduce some side characters who weren't in the first two episodes, but still talked about how they met Carmen in the past. Strange choice. The caper itself was alright.

Infinity Train was an interesting set of episodes, but it also felt odd given how close we are to the end. The solution to escaping the car in the first episode was really clever, and it was neat to see that you can go down to 0 then go up again. In the second episode, it was nice to see two male characters just talk about their feelings and cry without any mockery. I wasn't really feeling the returning antagonists from the season's previous episodes, though. At least the pig is wearing clothes now.

Carole & Tuesday was alright. It was mainly set up for later episodes. I can't actually tell you what the episode was about, other than that.

Chapter 3

The start of this chapter confused me, and made me think I had forgotten something from the last chapter. Still not quite sure what's going on there, but from Twilight not bringing up seeing Moondancer and being quite relaxed, I assume that wasn't a scene of Twilight using the time out spell.

I figured that Guardian Angel was Cozy Glow, but the details of what happened are pretty horrifying. From the flashback itself, I assumed Twilight just gave her a few memories, but then came the statement that she received years of Twilight's memories.

I'm curious to see where this is all going regarding Twilight's characterization.
