Yes.
It wasn't expected for anything major besides the usual DDL nom.
nah, it's a fucking great film . I even said it wouldn't get close to best picture.Well at the end it wasn't even nominated so hold this salty L?
So did Get Out. Phantom Thread is more surprising a nom than Get Out given other awards shows this season.People really did not expect a movie with Daniel Day Lewis getting a nom? Uhm ok.
I thought it had good chances.
"Oscar bait" not really since its actually good. PTA has only been nominated once before in his career for directing and this movie was expected to be snubbed. It his no precursors and had terrible (100/1 on goldderby) odds/
I wanna see Shape of Water win Best picture and I wanna see Del Toro win Best Director.
But I have a feeling they are gonna just give it to Gerwig.
Also would like to see the Guy from Get Out win. That movie has been horribly underrated by the big time awards.
You could put Daniel Day Lewis in Transformers and it would be oscar bait.Anyone calling a PTA movie "Oscar bait" has no clue what they're talking about
What makes it worse if they have a space in the top 10, could their thousands of members really not name another film?Meh, I would have liked Blade Runner to get a best picture nomination. I thought that was a phenomenal achievement.
You could put Daniel Day Lewis in Transformers and it would be oscar bait.
While I wouldn't word the way you just did my reasoning is basically the same.Giving Gerwig the Directing Oscar would be insanity. Honestly, she barely deserves the nomination, and for her to win it would only be because of the whole 'whooo, girl power' narrative. No thanks.
"Ignored" isn't quite the word I'd use for a Best Picture nominee, but it severely underperformed, for sure.Boy did The Post get thoroughly ignored. Both its noms seem perfunctory as hell.
Well the Best Animated feature category actually hurts an animated film from being nominated as a Best Picture, however the positives of having such a category are too important to get rid of.They have a history of being snobbish of certain genres, only 3 animated films have ever been nominated in about 100 years, I can't respect that considering how important they take themselves as well.
They can nominate 10 films, rather only nominate 9 than considering Logan which is a comic book movie, or Coco is a animated movie or other films that are in the 'wrong' genre to get a best picture nomination
The Academy continues to treat their snobbish opinions with importance, and later they'll scramble reasons to question why their ratings continue to drop.
"Oscar bait" is starting to become one overused term. You could put Daniel Day Lewis in Transformers and it would be oscar bait.
I laughed at Streep getting nominated. She just continues to pad her record for most acting noms: now up to twenty one.Boy did The Post get thoroughly ignored. Both its noms seem perfunctory as hell.
In a world where Lady Bird and Darkest Hour (Gary Oldman in Makeup the Movie) get best picture noms, it's hard to say 2049 didn't deserve one.
While I wouldn't word the way you just did my reasoning is basically the same.
6th ever woman to be nominated for the award at a time where women's rights and activism is at its peak? Combined with the fact that people think the entire industry hates and mistreats women?
Yeah she is winning.
And in a stacked category no less.I laughed at Streep getting nominated. She just continues to pad her record for most acting noms: now up to twenty one.
She's not winning. Her just being nominated is the academy's way of showing support to women. If she did win by a miracle...woof.
Everyone ignored Detroit because it isn't memorable in the slightest.I realized only now that the Academy totally ignored Detroit. I know the movie, which reviewed well, was met with some discrepancy, but technical merits were strong, and thematically is hard to find a film more appropiate for the actual climate.
Is Bigelow still on the blacklist? ZTD was years ago.
It likely would have lost its screenplay nom as well if Franco was tied to the script. Thankfully he was not.
I mean I agree she shouldn't win.
But the PR of a woman making a shocking upset in a male dominated category is just too good of a look for Hollywood to pass up right now.
It likely would have lost its screenplay nom as well if Franco was tied to the script. Thankfully he was not.
Blige got two noms today... her acting nom and for original song. She'll undoubtedly be performing Mighty River on Oscar night.Glad the DP of Mudbound was recognized for her great cinematography as well Mary J. Blige's performance.
Your Name was elgible for last year's Oscars, not this year.Boss Baby and Ferdinand but not Birdboy or Your Name.
Boss Baby wasn't even the better Dreamworks movie.
FUNimation will rue the day it screened that film in a single theater in California so it would be eligible in a much stronger year for animation where it would undoubtedly be passed by.
Damn I forgot she cowrote the song. She had a good day.Blige got two noms today... her acting nom and for original song. She'll undoubtedly be performing Mighty River on Oscar night.
