Cyberpunk 2077 - Uzzy - Out 10th December (Hopefully!)
Eight Years, Five Months, 30 Days. That's how long it's been since CD Projekt Red announced that they were making a Cyberpunk RPG. Back then it was still just 'Cyberpunk', the 2077 part came later. Back then the PS4 hadn't even come out, and Origin was still brand new. We've had Two Popes and Two World Cups since then. Both The Last of Us games were released during that time. Nine Assassin's Creed games. 11 Call of Duty games. Disney bought Lucasfilm and put out an entire trilogy of Star Wars films. Six of the Eight Game of Thrones seasons came out during that time, of course back then we thought it might end well. Brexit, Trumpism, Covid... Basically a lot's happened. And some of us have been waiting all that time. That's what Cyberpunk does to people.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open world action RPG set in the sprawling metropolis of Night City, the worst place to live in America. A bustling city full of high tech and low life, obsessed with power, glamour and cybernetic implants. You play as V, a gun for hire from one of three distinct backgrounds, who after a simple job goes badly wrong, ends up with the secrets of immortality implanted in your head, and now everyone in Night City wants a piece of you, from the lowliest of street criminals to the mightiest of megacorps. Customise your body and take to the streets in your way, defined by your beginnings and playstyle, and see how the world around you reacts. Explore the crime ridden streets of Night City, driving through the city and watch all the glistening skyscrapers shimmer in the night. Fight to survive using guns, melee weapons, hacking skills or just your words and you might just burn this whole city to the ground. Or live to see another day.
So as what I'm sure is a surprise to many of you, I'm a bit of a cyberpunk fan. And while I certainly prefer the more thoughtful, philosophical, post-cyberpunk takes that can be found in the works of Dick (Blade Runner!), Shirow (Ghost in the Shell) and Stephenson (The Diamond Age), I do have quite the soft spot for the classic 80s style of cyberpunk, the neon lit rain slick streets full of street samurai taking it to the man. The Gibsonian style, codified in works such as Neuromancer, Mirror Shades and the absolute classic Johnny Mnemonic. (I will note that Gibson himself prefers his later works!) Cyberpunk 2020, the RPG made by Mike Pondsmith and the inspiration for 2077, is drawn more from the Gibsonian style, and 2077 looks to be hitting that particular style perfectly in my opinion. Now, of course, previews have suggested, and it'd have been quite reasonable to assume given the scale of the game, that there's a wide breadth of storylines and characters to get to know, many touching on more mature themes. Which I had expected myself, given some of the quest lines we had in Witcher 3, but it is good to know that that is indeed the case. The world itself looks spectacular, I'm quite looking forward to driving around the streets on a Yaiba Kusanagi, Uzz-V gonna ride on the best. Get some cyberpunk tunes on, record myself looking around the skyline. More importantly, there's signs that all of the choice and consequence you can expect from a CDPR game is going to be there. It's a proper RPG, not a shooter with the veneer of cyberpunk poured over a GTA clone (as if that would actually be a bad thing!)

Call of the Sea - Uzzy - Out 8th December
From Developer Out of the Blue comes an otherworldly adventure game that sees you journey to a lush tropical paradise in search of your husband's missing expedition. Uncover the secrets of the island, explore ancient ruins and occult mysteries, and find out what happened to your lost love.
Devil May Cry 5: Vergil DLC - Oinone - Out 15th December
We knew it from the start, it's tradition, so here it is now, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition with playable Vergil, the undoubtedly superior son of Sparda.
With a new intro and outro (all other cutscenes missing) you play every mission as the Alpha and the Omega. Wield the almighty Yamato, punch brains out with good ol' Beowulf, split things in half with Force Edge and Spiral Swords. Vergil also has a Doppelganger now, that can even dance..! And you can summon V, if you like. (Y'all loved to play as him, didn't ya?) Pump up your style meter to listen to the whole epicness that is Vergil's battle theme Bury the Light! Last but not least there is a special surprise waiting for the two final missions. And of course you can show him your motivation in Bloody Palace, too.
What, that's not enough?
You ask about Turbo Mode? You want Legendary Dark Knight? Do not despair, for there are already mods on the way to fix this. Once more the mod community is on fire since day one!

Empire of Sin - Uzzy - Out 1st December
From Romero Games and Paradox Interactive, Empire of Sin sees you take control of one of 14 crime bosses in Prohibition Era Chicago, giving you the chance to assemble your gang and forge a criminal empire that'll see you control all of the windy city, or die trying. Strategically run your empire, the casinos and speak easies, through intimidation, bribery or persuasion, and when the going gets really tough deploy your heavy hitters in turn based tactical combat and send their guys to the morgue.
Haven - Uzzy - Out 3rd December
Developed by The Game Bakers, Haven is a RPG and the story of Yu and Kay, two lovers who have escaped to a forgotten planet, leaving everything they knew behind. Explore the planet looking for parts and material to fix your ship and make it a cosy home. Enjoy moments of everyday life as a relatable couple while cooking meals, crafting and collecting precious resources to make it to the next day. Fight against those trying to tear you apart by synchronizing actions in combat, finding the perfect timing and rhythm, while controlling both characters and battling to keep them and their relationship alive.
John Wick Hex - Uzzy - Out on Steam 4th December
John Wick Hex is a fast-paced, action-oriented strategy game that makes you think and strike like John Wick, the professional hitman of the critically acclaimed film franchise. Created by Bithell Games, in close cooperation with the creative teams behind the films, John Wick Hex is fight-choreographed chess brought to life as a video game, capturing the series' signature gun fu style while expanding its story universe. Players must make quick decisions and choose every action and attack they make, all the while considering their immediate cost and consequences.
Morbid: The Seven Acolytes - Mentalist - Out 3rd December
A top-down gothic RPG wit stamina-based combat, grotesque monster designs and "Cronenbergian gore". You play as the last member of the order of Dibrom, and your mission is to destroy the 7 Acolytes- formerly champions of the land who were corrupted by the evil entities known as Gahars (seem to be loosely based on the 7 deadly sins).
The game features melee combat as well as some ranged guns, as well as a Diablo-style inventory and a sanity meter. failing to protect yourself from certain attacks depletes this meter, but insanity can also have some benefits, supposedly.
My impressions from the steam demo (was available during the last 2 game festivals:)- this is the closest we've had to another Blood Omen. The atmosphere, the mood, the monster design- if you like grotesque, gothic stuff, you'll be right at home here.
OMORI - Uzzy - Out 25th December
OMORI is a surreal psychological horror RPGmaker game. You must travel between two worlds, both welcoming, both concealing the same secrets. Meet new (old) people, fight new (old) enemies, explore your own memories, and uncover some hidden truths along the way (although you wish you hadn't.) When the time comes, you can only choose one.
Orwell's Animal Farm - Uzzy - Out 10th December
A classic of modern literature, George Orwell's novella is a scathing critique of totalitarianism in the early days of the Soviet Union and has spoken to many over the decades since it's original publication, offering awareness of how power can be usurped and abused by those claiming to be more equal than others. This adaptation from the award winning interactive fiction writer Emily Short, developed by Nerial who made the Reigns series, brings the characters and setting to life and allows you to influence events, perhaps changing the course of the story and building that brighter future, or falling into corruption and decay. I'm very interested in seeing how this one turns out, I'm getting Elsinore vibes from this one.
Per Aspera - Uzzy - Out 3rd December
Through hardship, to the stars. From Tlon Industries comes a city builder on a planetary scale, but not our own planet, but rather the red planet, Mars. This is the story of overcoming near impossible odds to terraform an entire planet, turning the red green and making it fit for human habitation, helping the first colonists survive and thrive as humanity becomes an interplanetary species. Per Aspera features both a sandbox mode and a campaign mode, with voice actors providing a narrative exploring both humanities development and your own, as you explore Mars and uncover secrets of previous attempts to colonise the planet. It's underpinned throughout by hard sci fi concepts and real world science, so expect quite a challenge as you build your new civilisation.
Phoenix Point: Year One Edition - Uzzy - Out on Steam 3rd December

Suzerain - Uzzy - Out 4th December

Deus Ex - Uzzy
Currently available for a whole 69p, the cyberpunk classic Deus Ex is widely regarded as one of the finest RPGs of all time, if not one of the greatest games of all time, with it's immersive sim like qualities, allowing you to interact with the world and systems how you want. Filled with compelling characters and rife with conspiracy theories, you play as JC Denton, a newly minted member of UNATCO, out to hunt terrorists and save the world from the Grey Death virus, which has clearly been spread by those nasty terrorists. And with Deus Ex Revision improving the graphics, as well as a host of other aspects of the game, maybe now's a great time to experience this classic of the genre before Cyberpunk 2077 blows it away. Or crushingly disappoints, who knows?

Relax with this heart warming trip to the Russian countryside, it's what you need in 2020. Just hang around to hear the bells, nice and easy. It's charming even. Nice and cheap too currently.
