I dunno about it being too soon. BW, B2W2, and XY were all released one year from each other. With SM being released in 2016 and USUM in 2017, that would leave us to the same situation in 2018, and unless they basically change the whole concept of a Pokémon game, I'd say the jump from 2D to 3D was probably bigger than the one from 3D to HD will be.

Huh. Sorry, you're right. I was just looking at the EU dates, I keep forgetting that before 3DS, Japan had separate dates.
I mean if they revealed the new Dungeon beforehand it would be bigger news, since it's better than mainline games.

My dirty wish is that the Pokémon direct will announce that the mainline games are all cancelled and Game Freak is now a subsidiary of Spike Chunsoft that will dedicate all their resources for yearly Mystery Dungeon games.
But aren't all core RPG by Game Freak NOT set in Kanto actually spin-offs of the original games?
Would a Switch game set in Kanto be the second actual sequel after G&S?
Would it make the Switch games Generation 3?

inb4 "lol they can take as much time as you want but it'll still be the same" shitposts, but I would be A OK with the game coming in 2019 if they need the extra time to really go the extra mile with it. I don't know how long it's been in development, but I think more than 1.5-2 years is necessary considering the things they could stand to re-evaluate for this hardware.

As much as it pains me to wait more, I'd rather give them more time if they needed it to 'get it right' with the transition to switch. I'd much rather wait and have a better chance at being impressed, which hasn't happened with me and Pokemon for some time sadly.
We already got Pokemon Conquest though. We need Pocket Monster Hunter and Pokemon x Persona next.

I might be remembering wrong, but I do believe May has been a common month to get the first news on a new Pokemon game historically.

I don't think that's a good indicator considering Nintendo's E3 was Switch-focused. The only other option would have been Treehouse, which doesn't make sense for a series like Pokémon.
If we're choosing a spin-off, I'd rather take Dragon Quest Pocket Monsters.

Dragon Quest is like the inverse Pokemon: all its spin-offs are great, but the main series sucks.
But no said it has to be announced today. I was just pointing out that "lol e3 is too close" means nothing for The Pokémon Company. ORAS was announced on May 7th for example.
The Investors meeting is Thursday in Japan so doing a direct in just over 24 hours would probably be ideal if they want to announce it before the meeting. If not, looks like we'll have to head into May with still no news.

dungeon : S+ top tier except for gates to the infinity
ranger : high tier they were all great
pinball : high tier, severely underrated
puzzle league : mid tier, good and a shame they don't make anymore of those (shuffle doesn't count)
pokkén : mid tier, it's good enough
rumble : bottom tier, bad but somehow enjoyable
colosseum : bad
XD : even worse
Conquest : terrible
dash : the most terrible trash, more known as the bottom screen destroyer

Why does it have to be announced today? Almost like on 4chan where people set imaginary and made up deadlines and if it's not being announced until then it's not coming out this year lol. They can announce the game whenever they feel like it, today, tomorrow, May, June or E3.
