That said, this Youtuber in question is often pretty off-putting for me in that he often makes a lot of really sensationalist claims and predictions that have no hope of becoming realised; e.g. RISC is gonna overthrow Intel's x86 CPUs and become the primary CPU arch in desktop computing (never gonna happen).
The reason it didn't happen back when it was last predicted was that people failed to understand where the next bottleneck was coming from. RISC code tended to be larger than CISC code, but occupy fewer transistors so you could get more computational power in less space. When memory bandwidth took over as the primary concern and transistors became plentiful, CISC once again had an advantage. Now, though, the new bottleneck is power consumption - and once again fewer transistors has a distinct advantage. ARM is showing that in a big way, and whether ARM comes to the desktop/laptop or other devices replace these familiar versions is less clear. Apple is expected to start using ARM in their laptops in the next year or two.
