They're one exquisite movie, each an inextricable and necessary part of a whole. Please stop fighting. :(

If I saw Vol 1 without writer/director credits or any prior knowledge of what it was, then I wouldn't in a million years suspect that it was a Tarantino movie. I mean that in the worst possible way.

Second one is miles better. I can see why people could be disappointed comparing the Japanese anime madness of the first to the spaghetti western inspired second. But I thought the second had more substance and didn't overindulge as much.

I enjoyed Kill Bill Vol 2. more overall. The big fight at the end of Vol. 1 stretching itself over basically the entire second half of the movie started to really wear down as it went on. I enjoyed the character-heavy moments in 2.

Vol 2 is to me pretty much the best Tarantino movie. Or really close.

Scene after scene is killer man, the performances are legendary.

Kb2 is one of the best movies ever made. Much better than the first.

It didn't have the anime, torture porn, and action of the first so i can understand the disappointment but it had some incredible acting, writing and story moments.

I love how everything tied to the plot. Pai mei teaches her tricks that help her escape a coffin, kill Bill and render her nemesis blind. I love how bud dies from a black mamba bite. I love how pai mei is introduced with Bill coming back all bloodied.

I love every single one of bill's monologue. Him telling beatrix about the five palm exploding heart technique, about how pai mei hates women and white people, and of course the superman monologue. Tarantino wrote the shit out of this movie.

His selection of tracks was immaculate. The ending walk of death, the trailer stare down, the coffin escape were perfect. The death was Bill was so fucking satisfying i couldn't believe it.

Vol 2. isn't a bad movie at all. I think Vol. 1 has more problems as a film than 2 but because of the entire Oren Ishii background and bar sequence, it is the better film to me.

"Bill learning the "super duper ultra death move" from some crazy old man,..."

What? Its almost like you were texting while watching.

Also, some crazy old man....

I swear they changed how exactly the wedding happened in 2.

Seems I'm in the minority on this lol. Sorry but Kill Bill 2 sucked. It was nothing but pure exposition and talking. Its like they sucked all the story explanation out of the first film and then made a whole movie out of nothing but exposition.

And the final fight sucked.

Kill Bill 1 all day, I have no desire to ever watch the sequel again.

Add me to the list of people that love Vol.2. However, they're not really supposed to be separate movies at all.

Both were filmed together as a single production and was supposed to be released as one film, but with a runtime of over 4 hours it was decided to split them into two parts.

i don't perceive them as separate movies. didn't see either til after both were out. can't relate to hating on either half of the film at all, tho.

Ah, so you dislike character development and solid writing?

I don't think Taratino movies are for you

Vol. 1 has superior aesthetic and less Tarantino Western wank, but Vol. 2 is the better movie.

Vol. 2 is the superior part. I'll give Vol. 1 the Rise of O-Ren segment which was incredible, but Vol. 2 had everything with Pai Mei, everything with Budd, the grave, the showdown with Elle, the confrontation with Bill - all brilliant. It also had the superior soundtrack.

The worst part was Uma getting taken out by some idiot with a gun. After the insane shit she pulled off in 1, this is how she almost dies? Lol

More proof we are living in the worst timeline. A thread exists calling Kill Bill vol. 2 shit?

Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Basterds are amazing movies, so no, I think Quentin Tarantino movies are for me, thanks.

Y'all getting so salty haha.

there's no kill bill 2...it's one movie splits into 2....thus your idea of retcon is not valid.

i agree somewhat the pacing and style is too different from vol1 and vol2 but to say it sucks based on what you've written...clearly you are just a young padawan that only understand the japan and anime reference in vol1 but the old hk kungfu movies and mexican revenge movies reference in vol2 just flew over your head.

The OP basically listed a bunch of reasons why I liked Vol.2 MUCH more.

1. That cheesey opening monologue - Tarantino is always about cheese.
2. Bill learning the "super duper ultra death move" from some crazy old man - It's a pastiche of that kind of movie.
3. Uma Thurman getting clowned by a red neck with a shotgun - It stands to both Budd's strengths and Beatrix's weaknesses. She underestimated him, and so did the viewer - we were never lead to believe that he would so easily have the draw on her. Plus, it established a dichotomy between him and the rest - he never uses a sword, he just sits there with his shotgun ready to shoot.
4. then she uses the "super duper ultra death move" on Bill in a terrible and really short fight - I used to be down on this ending, but over time I realized that it was useful to show just how much the character grew and how much Bill didn't. Pai Mei trusted in her strength more than anyone. Seeing Bill taken down more effectively than anyone else in the film is a nice little thing about underestimating your opponent. Beatrix did it with Budd, and Bill did it with Beatrix.
5. and she then takes her kid from a really comfortable life to go live in a shitty motel. - I don't really get that point, living with Bill wasn't exactly a comfortable life, because inevitably someone would come to cause harm to her and/or Bill.

That's funny since Kill Bill Vol 1 is my least favorite of his, I still think it's a solid movie though.
OT but my least fav tarantino movie is actually inglorious bastard because of the lack of payoff, history retcon and some of the actor choices (you cast Eli Roth as a guy nicknamed the Bear? you kidding me? I expected some nicknamed 'The Bear' to look like a WWE wrestler. Not a schmuck that go to gym regularly).

Like everyone else has said, its one movie.
BUT I will agree that 1 is better than 2. Kill Bill 2 is still a fantastic movie!
If you think the first is great I can't understand how you think the second sucks.

Between this and the one started by the guy who thinks the LOTR movies sucks, the Hangouts are not having a very good day for quality arguments, are they? Wonder what "I don't like popular/beloved thing" post is next!

I personally think Kill Bill Vol. 2 is as awesome as the first one and I prefer Tarantino's approach of considering both of them as one film. At least this thread made me want to watch them again, so thanks for that, I suppose!

With the exception of Gordon Liu, it was highly forgettable.

With all the talking, I can't remember a single good line.
