Fuck, now I want to play Hellblade.
Question, how enjoyable it is from a gameplay standpoint, is it one of those games where you have to like the story to enjoy the game?
I failed to realise this until now. There is really soemthing going in this game. The snake is already there from the future and also Atreus knows the legend of Skoll and Hati. they are both the sons of Fenrir who is the son of Loki. I wonder how time paradoxes like these did happen. What if like I said before, the coming of Kratos changed everything, the real Farbauti was going to give birth to Loki who would have kept this name and not having Atreus instead with Spartan rage and Origins. Also Maybe Loki is really a sperate character now that happened in the future timeline from the serpent came, but not just him both Loki, Fnerir and his sons Skoll and Hati came from that timeline too.
Fenrir is also mentioned a couple of times including the magical chains brok and sindri made.
I disagree. I'd probably say its more like a season of TV. They wrap up the main plot lines introduced here, while seeding plenty of potential for the future. Its easy to see where things will likely go but this game doesn't really provide clear motivations for Kratos and Atreus to faceoff with Odin/Thor, discover the whereabouts of Tyr, or bring about Ragnarok.
But isn't Hellblade mostly based in Celtic culture or is a mix of both Celtic and Norse like in this GOW (Mimir being Celtic and the Celtic references in the game too).
I think there's a lot of potential still. We visited 4/5 realms in this game but each was scratching the surface. Wouldn't surprise me if we revisited a couple. For some reason I feel like Norse will be a duology before they move on. They have three realms left to explore, I feel it would be spread a bit thin over two more games
Hmmm maybe I'll try the other challenges again. Playing on GMaC which isn't making it easier. I know I can lower the difficulty, but I feel like keeping it.
Yeah, I mean the workshop. So, after defeating the Valkyrie I should just run around collecting mist echos to open the chests there?
Really? Wow. I must have missed that then. Something is really happening in this game. Many surprises await us in order to understand connection of the events that led to this.
So am I supposed to take that Arteus who did not listen to Kratos was actually a different personality?
Why else Arteus would be so shocked in Hel when seeing that vision, he says he did not remember doing that.
I somehow have trouble to imagine God of War without Kratos...
Yeah, I believe Arteus will have demons of his own to handle.Hmmm, what if the Santa monicas interpretation of Loki as being a trickster is split personalities? Even the mythologies he's sometimes good, sometimes bad. The dual nature of the child was a big deal when Freya was talking about it. I have a hard time believing they'd drop it, especially since Cory said they inadvertently wrote some story for god of war 2 already
Mimir talks about it at one point but even more crazy is that mimir talks about the giant taking the form of a common builder that promises to build the war for asgard against the giants which ends up in the Freya/Giant marriage story and out of that it spins in to Loki taking the form of a horse to lure away and seduce the giant's super horses so he can't finish his work, that super horse ends up mating with Loki and one of loki's other children is born, the horse with 8 legs and horse of Odin, SLEIPNIR.

I think Vanaheim is huge to explore and constitues the big realm of one of the main warring factions. The next game can focus on it and revisit the previous realms and let us visit the Dwarven realm too. The main focus of the third and last game would be a huge and somptuous Asgard like Olympus in GOW3.
I think that the next game will open up Midgard a lot more because Thor is bringing the fight to Kratos. Also, we will definitely be returning Alfheim to learn more about the conflict between light and dark elves and there is no way were are not fighting that giant eagle in Helheim lol. Going further, we spent like 10 mins in Jotunheim, and that'll be one of the most interesting realms to explore. Asgard/Valhalla can definitely be saved for the third game and done BIG on PS5.For some reason I feel like Norse will be a duology before they move on. I'm certain the other realms will be revisited and expanded upon, but I don't think that's what we'd be returning to Alfheim for. Mimir pretty much covered the entire thing, explaining that it's a pointless conflict where neither side knows why they're even fighting. It's just been going on for generations. What they are most likely going to tackle is the Light Elves themselves and their creepy obsession with Freyr.I think that the next game will open up Midgard a lot more because Thor is bringing the fight to Kratos. I think it's Atreus holding a dead/wounded Kratos(?). The fact that it doesn't show the tattoo makes me question if it's Kratos but it's most likely him. According to reddit, the runes translate to Betrayal, Death, Father, Disaster. So, that last image on the mural was Kratos and Atreus getting killed by something?
All through the final fight, I was thinking "Does Cory know that in the myths/ Edda, Loki (using Hod) to kill Baldur was the start of events that lead to Ragnarok?" Lo and behold, we come back from Joutenheim and the final winter has started. Brilliant twist for this Norse myth fan :D
It's enjoyable enough. There's not that much combat. The puzzles are super simple. The audio is probably the highlight but there are some very cool sequences. It focuses on some of the gods / entities not mentioned or focused on in GoW, like Surtr and Valraven (who is not really a Norse thing I think). The Valraven level is incredible-- it's almost survival horror like.Fuck, now I want to play Hellblade.
Question, how enjoyable it is from a gameplay standpoint? Is the experience solely dependent on the story? Is it one of those games where you have to like the story to enjoy the game?
Basically what I'm asking is, is Hellblade a good video game?

Finally beat SIgurn after 3 hours by the skin of my teeth, the advise given here in this thread was sound, build vitality, mist send for health regen, and a lot of patience
Oh yea don't get me wrong, I used the fuck out of that slam attack when I had her in a corner, so much damage when you get all the hits in!
The devs said in play tests people thought it was weird that in dealing with the tree, they couldn't see all the realms, so they included them in the final game, but not as places to visit right now.Kind of disappointed where the game ended. We didn't even visit half of the realms. What's the point of them being there if they aren't even included in the main story. Feels very half baked to me.
Yeah I literally thought the game was half way over when we spread mom's ashes and I see the credits rolling and I was like what the fuck I don't want this to be over. The devs said in play tests people thought it was weird that in dealing with the tree, they couldn't see all the realms, so they included them in the final game, but not as places to visit right now.

Sounds like Eitr, the primordial goop from which all flesh emerged and will eventually decay into. I believe even the Aesir are made of the stuff, so I wonder if it's the fire or ice that makes giants disagreeable.According to Norse legends, Giants are made of the mixture of ice, fire and a poisonous substance, which name I've forgotten, and because of that, unlike gods, they are not capable of being "very good" and tend to lean towards being a bit evil sometimes.
