So many extras seem to be missing in this game. I miss trophies, trophy launcher, masterpiece mode, event matches, smash run, and tons of other smaller modes.
I'm very much on the fence about this game. I haven't played Smash since the gamecube days. Is it worth it if I'm kinda tepid on fighting games and not very good... but love the idea of all those characters and stages.
I was in the same boat too , haven't played Smash in a long time , in my opinion , its worth it if you haven't played in a while.
So I just won two games and went up like a thousand GSP, then to lose another and drop 12,000 or so.
It currently has me at 16,000. Is it really saying I'm in less than the bottom 1% of players or so, or am I missing something?

Are the 8 bit Kirby songs used in some spirit battles unlockable as music for My Music, or am I just stuck with Kirby Retro Medley? I want Green Greens on... Green Greens, and Mt Dedede on Fountain of Dreams. But not the entire medley.
I haven't unlocked any of them so far, but... that's not really indicative to me that they're not in My Music. I'm still missing like 50 songs.

You can completely cheese the Donkey Kong and Lady spirit battle by using Ridley and going to the top of the stage and using side b to drag Donkey Kong to the blast zone.
This game is such an absolute monument that I almost feel bad niggling it, but man, I really wish there was some sort of flavor text to go with each spirit. Even just a single line or two and -- especially -- a game title/date would go such a long way. I'd love to know what games some of these spirits are from without having to check online.

Since it's character based it could partially be informed by the fact that only a certain % of the player base has used any 1 character online or in classic. I would bet little more than 10% of the playerbase at this point has any score on a given character at this point.
But it's also confusing bs that makes no sense, so who knows? The amounts seem totally arbitrary, just like they kind of were in Smash 4.

I haven't played since Melee, not because I'm one of those people. Just dropped Nintendo up till the Switch. The muscle memory is still there, and I've always been in love with the FGC, but most of my fighting game days are behind me. Smash is still incredibly fun, and if you do go online, even just barebones basics and understanding will get you through a lot. It's a lot of fun!
And if you just stick with single player, there's a lot to do if you fall in love with the spirit stuff, which is where most of that content lies.
Were Masterpieces ever popular? They were just timed demos of eShop games.
Wait, break the targets and the sandbag mode are gone too. Must've been a shorter development cycle than usual if so much is missing.
I highly recommend that he uses Kirby. That character will teach him most of the basics.
For the life of me I can't understand what people are expecting Event Matches to offer that Spirits don't. Like do some of you just want these modes for the sake of it?

- He'll have a Persona-switching mechanic that changes his special moves, kind of like a mix between Shulk and Pokemon Trainer. Neutral/Smashes will be knife and gun attacks.
- The stage will be Sae's palace with the name Casino of envy. It's the first location in the game so everyone will have seen it, it feels pretty iconic to Persona 5, and there's not really any stage similar to it in Smash yet. The stage itself would probably be modeled after the rafters you run on at the beginning of the game, with the casino below. Moloch could also appear as a stage boss.
- When Joker is released they'll also add Persona/SMT spirits with additional spirit battles, like each of the Phantom Thieves and Jack Frost. A Jack Frost and Pyro Jack spirit battle could be a teamup of a lone Ice Climber and a small Incineroar.

Because there are challenges that by design are intensely challenging because of their parameters regardless of the AI difficulty. You need to acquire and use spirits effectively to make it far in.
70+ characters and 103 stages means some stuff needs to be sacrificed. Ultimate had the same development time as past games.
So, how's everyone doing character wise? Anyone surprised at who they're gravitating towards?

I don't know why, but she feels great to play and my friends get way more upset if I win with her over Peach, so she's been getting a bunch of play! I've also been playing a lot of Ken, which if anyone recalls I constantly bitched about how boring he was during speculation. Meanwhile, I was super excited for Ridley, but I've barely touched him. Same with Lucas, who feels a little off to me this time.

Nah, it's clearly because they just didn't wanna do it. They could've literally ported the modes from Smash 4 lol

Anyone else disable up-to-jump but have trouble short jumping with a Pro controller?
Lightly pressing either jump button Y or X, even slowly and lightly pressing it, results in a high jump like 90% of the time. It's as if the Pro controller's buttons isn't built well enough to recognize light presses vs normal presses :/

I mean I was gonna play as Dark Samus anyway but I'm still surprised at how much better her and Samus feel in this game
I unlocked Zero Suit Samus today, and she feels even better than I remember from Smash 4. Fast, good power, and easy for me to get a handle on.
And I haven't played Daisy yet, but I've always loved playing Peach and it's no different here. I got my first online win with her last night Daisy, hilariously, rocked the shit out of me on my first attempt at her Challenger match. She was out for blood and hip-checked me into oblivion.

Oh, for sure. I'm way into Dark Samus, too. It's weird, I actually think all the echoes (Daisy, Richter, Dark Samus, Chrom) are some of my most played characters. I absolutely didn't expect that to be the case.
Incineroar is a surprise favorite for me. I like Richter and Inkling too. Isabelle is better than Villager, but I still can't get a good grip on how to use her. I've dabbled with Ridley and would like to use him. Pikachu Libre is the best though. I'm glad she made it in.
I'm feeling surprisingly good about Inkling, while not really liking K. Rool, which is the opposite of what I expected.
She messed me up too. I gotta say, I've never really enjoyed playing Peach, but there's something about the way she and Daisy play in Ultimate that had hooked me. So much fun.
I was really excited for Isabelle pre-launch, but I just can't get her to stick. I think I might just need to put more time in, but she's failing to click with me.
I haven't played much Inkling, but what I have played makes me want to try them more. I put a bunch of time into K. Rool, but yeah. I sorta feel like I'm flailing a bit with him.
There is nothing shameful about losing to Pichu! You hear me! Nothing!
(I didn't have any trouble with Pichu per se, but Squirtle fucked me up multiple times before I beat the Trainer with Lucina.)
I thought Daisy's alt colors were horrendous. I was really disappointed. It was like she was raised by Jolly Ranchers. All her clothes look like weird (bad tasting) candy.
Okay, fuck that Atari 2600 cowboy-looking motherfucker assist trophy. How am I supposed to fight while this thing has perfect accuracy?
