Sushi Striker is an action puzzle game all about creating big dish combos to win the great sushi war. You combine matching plates conveyor belt to create huge stacks to then fling at your opponent for maximum damage.

You can find and befriend up to 100 Sushi Sprites that spice up your technique with special skills from up to three sprites in any given battle. Strategic sushi striking is on the plate here.

There are two modes for local and online (region-specific with leaderboards) multiplayer: Tasteful Battles (no capsules, pure sushi striking) and Chaos Battles (lots of capsules with special effects).

Online multiplayer is unlocked after finishing Chapter 4 in the story mode.

The switch demo does have touch controls, yes

is the local like docked and 2 people with controllers or 2 different switches on the same locale?

Think I will go for the 3DS version down the road (not buying it yet, enjoyed the demo though) because of price and stylus.

In the demo, at least, the Switch version is playable with either buttons or touch at any time. You can detach the Joy-Cons and play this entirely as a tablet game (and indeed, I found this the best way to play in terms of both comfort and precision), but the Joy-Cons need to be on and connected when you boot up the game or resume from suspend.

I figured out quite a bit of the mechanics and scoring in the demo, but there was quite obviously a lot more to come in the full game in terms of sprite powers and gear loadouts.

Haven't decided between the Switch or 3DS myself, or for that matter, physical or digital.

If Mario Tennis Aces wasn't coming soon this same month (and also if I hadn't had so much more fun with the demo for that game than for this), I'd sure get Sushi Striker, but I guess it'll have to wait, hoping that the online will still be alive and thriving when I do eventually get the game.

I bought a digital code from Amazon Japan (great deal btw, it was around 37€) and I can confirm that the Japanese version features all languages on top of the Japanese voice track.

Unless Nintendo patches the game, this is the only way to play it with Japanese voices.

Oh good grief. I imagine it's a licensing issue but what a pain.

Picking this up after work today. I played through the demo again and it finally hooked me.

Have you ever seen Jiro dreams of Sushi?

It makes me want to buy a ticket to Japan just for lunch.

I didn't but I watched a few episodes of Samurai Gourmet, which is equally hunger-inducing toward Japanese cuisine!

I'll have to add this to the list, I guess! :D

to get back in-topic, picked up the games one hour ago, gonna be trying it in the evening if I can!

May go trade in stuff at GameStop to pick this up today. Really wanna get it. Any of the reviews talk about how much content there is?

it's both.

You can play on the same screen using one cart and system, OR each player can use their own system and game. The latter is preferred because then each player can use their own sprite and gear set-up and have their own viewpoint, but one console play is there if you just wanna party. I think player 2 just uses player 1's Musashi in splitscreen though.

Can I change the voices from English to Japanese? I can't seem to find a settings menu.

edit: found a settings menu but there's no option to switch audio tracks. This sucks.

Something tells me this is going to drop in price pretty quickly despite being a game from Nintendo. It's one of a few Nintendo made Switch games that isn't in Amazon's top 100 despite being release week.

Only in the Japanese version of the game can you set the voices to Japanese while retaining English text.

i liked the demo and i'm considering buying this

is the game meaty (ha!) enough to justify a 50 dollar price tag?

Game is out now. I have the game on my bed as I type.

Any thoughts and first impressions thus far?
The game has been out for almost an entire 24 hours now lol. But so far I'm loving it as much as I loved the demo. The story seems rather throwaway but I love the characters and their unique personalities.

Still haven't unlocked multiplayer yet or online so I guess they're more mid-to-late game unlocks.

a place beyond seeing...
No cross play between 3DS and Switch is a real bummer. The game was clearly designed around the stylus and 3DS, so I want the superior control experience; on the other hand, I feel like online / local multiplayer audience for this title will be so barren on 3DS.

I'll probably end up getting this at some point but I'm still unsure which version to get.

For anyone who cares, you have to beat the first two chapters to unlock local multiplayer.
