The fact that Luke mentions them makes me think Rian didn't forget about them or try to wipe them from existence. It's still possible they'll be used.

If they were Jedi in training why is the dude on the far right holding a gun. In fact how come none of them have light sabers?
"Darkness falls across the land

The midnight hour is close at hand

Creatures crawl in search of blood

To terrorize y'all's neighborhood

And whosoever shall be found

Without the soul for getting down

Must stand and face the hounds of hell

And rot inside a corpse's shell

The foulest stench is in the air

The funk of forty thousand years

And grizzly ghouls from every tomb

Are closing in to share your doom

And though you fight to stay alive

Your body starts to shiver

For no mere mortal can resist

The evil of the thriller"

I watched TLJ for the second time earlier and was wondering the same thing. Not even a mention

Apparently JJ has admited that he uses them without having the answers as a tool to keep people interested. Most if not all of the mysteries on Lost were created with no answer in mind, but were sold to the audiences as logical and planned. Is easy to just create questions with no answers, and hoping the next guy is forced to answer them.
Those mysteries (Lost) were dealt with by others. JJ just drops in, throws shit at a wall, and then others have to clean up after him.

His mystery box crap is just lazy storytelling. The more I hear about him the less I think of him as a writer.

In true Sith fashion they probably fought among themselves and killed each other.
Are they even Sith in the normal sense? Or just dark side users? Same with Rey but on the opposite side of it.

Somehow i would like this trilogy to be 4 movies instead of 3... JJ to direct the 2 upcoming movies and save this "trilogy"

Luckily JJ gonna save us with Episode 9 from the mess that was left.

-Kylo is now Supreme Leader who rules more and more over the galaxy with the FO
-Knights Of Ren chilling with him now and are his replacement for the guards and Phasma
-instead of another Deathstar the climax gonna be in the new capital city of the first order on a planet
-Force Ghost Luke comes in to tell Rey thats its time she brings Kylo down
-Explain Snoke was Mace Windus Pod Racing teacher
-Rey confronts Kylo while whats left of the rebels team up with the porgs to take over the city

My guess is that they will be in 9. Kylo doesn't want there to be Sith and Sith play by the rule of two. He made sure they stayed hidden until he could kill Snoke and bring them out

The concept of the Sith were always dumb and made no sense.
'There can only be two?' Why? Whats to stop any force sensitive asshole calling himself a Sith?

I really wish they'd have penned an overarching story from the get-go, The Last Jedi really feels like such an underwhelming and disappointing sequel to The Force Awakens.

It was just a way to make Kylo more badass in TFA. Nothing more than that I guess otherwise they would expand on this matter

But surely you could have tons of Sith duo's all acting in secret?

So there wouldn't be only two.
Essentially he did it because too many Sith you get both bunch of weak dragging everyone down and too many Sith end destroying themselves backstabbing each other and never accomplishing anything

(Also weak sith will use trickery or whatever to kill stronger sith to get powet)

Though I imagine all this shit is too explain why only Sidious and Vader in ot

I'd expect them to be in 9.

With Snoke and Phasma dead and Kylo running the show, they'll probably fit in better.

Was Rian Johnson taking a shit one day while reading the notes JJ Abrams left him, found himself out of toilet paper, and used the pages about the Knights of Ren to wipe instead? Will the now totally useless and inconsistent flashback scenes in The Force Awakens be retconned and removed in the future 4K HDR re-release? Does Kathleen Kennedy even care about consistency or a trilogy having a unified vision? Discuss.

I imagine this is you right now:

Obviously nobody at Disney does.

Could have put them in instead of wasting all that time on side arcs that in the end had zero point.
Everything except the chase scene with the alien horses has a point in TLJ. Even that begins with the introduction of the stable boy who has a point later on in the movie. Watch harder.

You could of cut Finn's entire plot out of the movie. It had zero impact on anything else and accomplished nothing.
It just made an already long movie, way , way too long.

They clearly had nothing for that character to do.

According to the Star Wars Wiki, "The Knights of Ren was a group of dark side users that operated in the decades following the Galactic Civil War. They were under the command of Supreme Leader Snoke, who used them as a tool of the dark side of the Force alongside the First Order"

So my guess is that we will have to read Snoke's origin comic book in 2019 to find out what happened. Amazing.

I wasn't a big fan of TLJ but I've got to say TFA was ridiculously bad in many ways which are related to Abrams skills (or lack thereof) when it comes to story structure.

I don't blame Rian in the slightest for any issues that arose from having to navigate that mess. It shouldn't be on him to invent backstory for characters that Abrams just threw in there without a second thought.

Yeah, JJ put up the nostalgia mystery scaffolding to make a nostalgia film. It worked but what is Rian suppose to do in those constraints. He had to destroy some of it. Didn't work out particularly well but isn't awful by any means.

The entire casino crap ends up meaning absolutely nothing. And I viewed that boy as just "look, there are people who support the resistance". Like, duh. Doubt we'll see him again.

No, they couldn't be.

Ren doesn't have a lame fanboy mask anymore.

Considering I'm not totally sure of the spoiler rules of this thread:

Well, he did end up killing Snoke, so maybe he'll be like "fuck him, I liked that mask, I'm making a new one" :)

Another thing could be, jedis see a possible future, that could happen, so she saw a future where Kylo hadn't destroyed the mask :)

I hope not, the mask is awful, his voice is awful. It was a relief when he didn't wear it.

Rian seemed to be more interested in exploring other things and I can't blame him after watching TLJ.

They only had a two second flashback and a brief mention by Snoke in TFA. They were never a significant part of the story. JJ can always bring them back into play in IX if he wants to.

I swear to god it's like Rian either didn't see TFA at all or he hated the movie (or JJ Abrams so much) that he attempted to revert or ignore everything TFA did...

I watched Kevin Smith's review, and he essentially repeated this notion lots of times.

I think the whole point is to subvert expectations created by TFA, which is anything but trampling on JJ's film.

Goofy as all hell, but TLJ is still trying to be the dark(ish) middle entry I think.
