It's weird af. Even the super fucked up Poseidon princess scene in GOW3 didnt make me as uncomfortable as how the violence looks in this game. The blood in this game makes me squirm, and I can rip and tear in Doom all day long.

That's ok. Angering your fanbase doesn't mean that you made a bad game.
How did y'all already know Jesse was going to die?
Uncharted 4 had some small delays on the year it released IIRC.Well this is happening. Maybe not a lot, but it was happening in the past. Especially with some Sony exclusives.
Yeah that's true.Uncharted 4 had some small delays on the year it released IIRCC.
It happens all the time, and games are leaked all the time too, nothing new here. I mean, we have had this kind of threads with offcam footage and game scripts being leaked, and the games were released and sold well either way.Uncharted 4 had some small delays on the year it released IIRCC.
But you just said you weren't buying the game, so I'm just curious as to what the point of really posting the same conclusion you came to? It's not going to make much of a difference unless you decide to play the full game yourself, no?
You don't play as Ellie in the second half of the game.
Jesus man the way she just grabs it and twists it. You can hear it snap too. Kind of mirrors the seraphytes when they say "clip their wings" and render their arms useless.
this has me starting to think this IS the end of the game. how the hell is she going to survive very long with an entirely useless arm like that? Her best bet is just ending the whole trip and going back to jackson to heal.... there is no fixing that with a med kit.
The difference is that those games had release dates, crazy times indeed...It happens all the time, and games are leaked all the time too, nothing new here. Then this clearly is not a game for you. A game about uttermost realism in the apocalypse will not hold back on showing the brutal natures of the people surviving in it. And that is the way it should be.Yes, because more gross stuff keeps coming out. It's not like I'm saying this without any new information. Seeing Ellie and Dina get brutalized is really uncomfortable shit.
I know dude it's fucking wild, Abby is a legit rugby player slaughtering children here it's not even a fair fight

Sony took a gamble, they want to release the game in optimal conditions but having a completed game ready to be released when it's best for them has a serious leak risk, surely they already knew that and will try to take down all the leaked footage. And considering the situation won't stabilize soon, most people will forget about the details when the game launches. The difference is that those games had release dates, crazy times indeed...
They are going for that super realistic violence in this game. Both graphics and animations make it really brutal and uncomfortable to watch. What i saw so far... i am pretty sure that many ppl will not be able to handle the violence of this game. It's weird af. Yeah, I understand this, but TLOU is about post-apocalyptic suffering and nothing else. I don't enjoy realistic driving games and you'll never see me discussing them in their respective threads, I don't understand the need to be angry at something that you don't enjoy at the basic level.

Go play TWDG, its a little more lighter on the heart.
People have their lines, what's not to get. It's wild to see people reacting at TLOU of all things as "unappealing because it seems too brutal". Really? First game was about survival above everything else, about human misery and killing other people just to see another day.
The aggressor today will be the victim tomorroy, this is the kind of story TLOU was, some comments here sound like complaining for the sake of complaining.
Ellie killed a lot of people during the first game for her selfish reasons, same as Joel, the two of them being murdered sooner or later feels like the logical outcome of the sequel IMO.
The Star Wars movie franchise is not a 1:1 comparison to the really great game that is the TLoU and the reputation of ND. Star Wars fans had many reason to be mad at that franchise. If the main thing this game does is upset people who fell in love with the characters of this broken and bleak universe, who just so happen to fall victim to the same things that they did in said universe, but the gameplay and storytelling is great, I don't see that as a bad thing.
This thread and the other one is full of people complaining about these of points. So that's why people are calling them divisive. What is it that people here think will be divisive? that Joel dies? cause lol that's probably the first thing that crossed people's mind when they heard there would be a sequel where you play Ellie.
That Abby is a playable protagonist? Why would that be divisive, you know nothing about her, she could be 10x more beloved than Joel ever was.
But if they already lost your sale more information you don't like isn't going to make them lose your sale again.Yes, because more gross stuff keeps coming out. It's not like I'm saying this without any new information. Seeing Ellie and Dina get brutalized is really uncomfortable shit.
It's definitely going to ignite those articles about violence in video games againThey are going for that super realistic violence in this game. I agree. You know just because a story isn't something you want doesn't make it a bad story. I've noticed that people seem to have trouble separating those two things, especially when stuff leaks without context. Or maybe I'm just more down for the wild rides some of these things turn into.
Not sure if you're familiar with them, but they have been ranting in similar ways from before VIIR's launch and they are still going. This thread and the other one is full of people complaining about these of points. So that's why people are calling them divisive.

Since this is an open spoilers thread, I can now freely express how much I love the leaked argument scene between Dina and Ellie. The facial animations and the acting, omg. I'm particularly struck by Shannon's performance; her delivery is so good. And Dina's all teary eyed and congested sounding as she tries to convince her dumbass GF to stay for her and the baby. 🥺
Shes already going to be controversial and hated. If she was a man, I legit think she'd have a shot at most hated videogame character this gen or at least in a long long time. It would feel 10 times worse playing as that character.I had a thought.
If Abby were a man would this be too much for people? Like he's just a big and absolutely obliterating Ellie and her Girlfriend. And this is the character you play as for the second half. Just imagining the same scene but Abby more male presenting made me kind of uncomfortable (besides the sheer violence).
Yeah everything we've seen of this shows the infected barely being important. Theyll probably be just there for gameplay purposesI remember there were some discussions when people had finished TLOU1 about how the ending could cause people to try to hunt down Joel after how much killing he did. About how any sequel could be about revenge on Joel from another characters perspective and Ellie then going and trying to get revenge on the person who came for Joel. While TLOU2 leaks don't follow that exactly, they're pretty close - I also think this was the strongest narrative thread to continue from the ending of TLOU2. My real wonder is how much the infected will play into TLOU2. They played a pretty big part in TLOU1 because of Ellie's cure and the majority of the game was spent either stealthing your way past them or killing them.
I'm liking everything I've exposed myself to so far lmao. I'm just glad we can finally put the sexual assault and repopulation nonsense to rest. Couldn't stand them. You know just because a story isn't something you want doesn't make it a bad story. Yeah, this sounds... amazing and very brave from NDI'm honestly way more interested now after reading the leaks. Bring it on, ND.
There isn't really evidence to suggest that the infected don't play a major role either, in a sense. I always thought the core of TLOU was the characters, everything else is just the cherry on top. Without the characters, the game fails. The first game was interesting because Joel's dilemna was about his egoistical nature as an individual in the face of what is essentially the salvation of humanity. This second game seems to be purely about blind personal revenge, people killing each other because they are hurt in their fee-feelings.
The fact that the infection is not even playing a major role in the story indicates that ND themselves did not really understand what made the first game great in the first place. You could take this sort revenge story and place it in modern day USA it wouldn't make a difference. The world of TLOU is not relevant to this plot, and this plot is not relevant to the world of TLOU.

Most likely you'll be seeing these posts from them till launch or beyond.
I never said that, your comment is really reductionist. My point was, it's strange to complain about a post-apocalyptic story being vicious and ruthless, mostly considering that the first game is already this way.Can we please stop this narrative? "If you don't like it, shut up and leave!" Let people express their opinions about this game, even if *gasp* it's not what you want to hear.
have legit tears in my eyes from laughing so hard here. well done. You get to beat up everyone from the first game.
Its like Pokemon Gold & Silver all over again.
This I agree, I felt that the first game had no interesting info about the infection and it seems the second one won't fix it and will be more human drama. But I think that playing as an opposing party is a good touch and fits the human drama theme a lot, and tbh the fungi infection was only a flavor added to the first game, the same exact story could have been told with random zombies. Joel's dilemma was something presented at the end of the game, it was the result of the events of the whole story but was never the main game theme. So maybe Part II presents the revenge story in a interesting way the same as Joel's decision was a good ending for the first game. The first game was interesting because Joel's dilemna was about his egoistical nature as an individual in the face of what is essentially the salvation of humanity. This second game seems to be purely about blind personal revenge, people killing each other because they are hurt in their fee-feelings.
