There was one at neogaf because I helped the op to make the art for it.
8 episode seasons for the win. The Marvel series suffered from some serious padding. 8 episodes means The Witcher will get straight to the point.
There is a Witcher community thread. There is a couple of us there who have not only played the games, but have read the books as well.
Honestly feel like Netflix has a Gold mine here...all they need to do is make it GREAT. I think an 8 Episode format is a good move and will avoid the bloated feeling the Marvel Netflix series. The writing needs to be on point. Give this a Marco Polo budget with some great writing and I know Netflix will finally get it's Game of Thrones opportunity. Especially since GoT would have ended the year before and the spin offs wouldnt have aired at that point.
The russian and spanish translations are the best from what Sapkowski has said in interviews (i think he also mentioned another language that now i dont remember).
Jose Maria Faraldo, the spanish translator, is a polish liguist and historian, and had some various weeks long interview with Sapkowski to learn everything about the way he wrote prose so he could do a good work.
Spakowski has said he would kill for translators that did as much research work as Faraldo to make good work in other languages.
Im really happy we got something so well translated for this, i have all the books and the way is written in spanish is top notch. The cover art for them is also great and was done before even the witcher 1 was released.
Sapkowski has also said that the english translation is pretty terrible and that no one talked with him before it was started.
Ironically the games in english are much better translated and use a similar prose to the original books while the spanish translation of the games is pretty mediocre sadly. But I suppose thats what it means having a cheap videogame translator for you instead of a linguist. At least it uses the proper names for characters like Jaskier, like in the book.

That seems a little misguided. The Witcher might be a Polish series, but the stories take place all over its fictional continent, featuring a similarly multinational cast. Even its closest equivalent of Poland was explicitly injected with elements of foreign cultures.
This isn't an adaptation of the third game, so slapping a white beard on a random buff dude isn't going to cut it when you're casting a character whose many pet peeves include growing facial hair.
If the casting director does their job right, Yennefer should end up being the only character resembling their video game incarnation.
Uh he made a dark comedy in 2016 where he plays a bumbling idiot. also he's wearing a fake nose
...so you lose the beard? I've read the books and he still fits the description given the way Geralt is portrayed there. Yes, Yen came out almost exactly the same in the game as she did in the books, but Geralt was pretty damn close too once you get rid of the beard and throw the right hair cut on him.
They are in a really high level castillian spanish writting (for example, while the main characters speak a more "modern" spanish between them the poor folk speak old poorly spoke spanish and the rich olde noble spanish), but if you think you can understand it without problems try looking for it in sites like amazon.es and fnac.es
You can also search for them with the name Saga de Geralt de Rivia by the publisher alamut.

The Faraldo translations of the Geralt of Rivia novels are absolutely incredible. I was in awe the entire way through the books, and puts to shame the work of most translators. But again, his standard is one that should most definitely not be expected from others.
He has a few extremely funny lines/scenes in Hannibal, believe it or not. So i think he could pull it off.
Yup his standard was not the type to be normally expected, he went the extra mile and it shows, in fact he was such a perfectionist and went slowly in the translations, he actually needed a translation helper (that is also pretty good) to finish Lady of the Lake. And as slow as Faraldo was the funny thing is that after the russian translation the first translation that was completely finished was the spanish one, all the other translations were finished MUCH later or werent even finished (last time i look for info about the english one, it was still half done lol).
I really hope Netflix uses him for the translation of the spanish script. Although by the way the games were translated, im sure thats not going to happen.
This makes me worry that The Witcher won't make it far. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm glad the release date is 2020 and solid script writers are on board. Everything so far suggests the show will be high quality. I think the appeal is broad - should interest American, Canadian, Australian, and broad European audiences. High potential for Netflix to captivate several markets.
There was brief update on twitter to let people know that the casting process will begin soon, and if any of those audition scripts leak online it's spoiler free because they wrote them specifically for the audition and are not a part of the show.
Because the English translation of Jaskier is Buttercup. I know the Dandelion name is not unique to the video games, but she probably wants to stay true to Sapkowski's original intent.... without naming him Buttercup.

The type of flower doesn't change anything about the character, but it's rather important that the reader/viewer understands the meaning of his stage name. Calling him a random foreign word seriously misses the point.
This choice is extra strange because (as far as I can remember) there are no Polish given names in the series. I don't know how one could justify giving a character of faux-Germanic nationality a Polish nickname when the language doesn't really exist in the world of the series.
The previous actor they had chosen had to be taken off the show, she was having trouble saying her lines because she was a little hoarse.

I hope they keep him clean shaven so it confuses all the people fan casting any random dude that had a beard at some point.
From the usual mentions I've seen in here about the casting, only Mads would be a great choice for me. That Hell on Wheels and Black Sails guy aren't really excellent actors in my opinion. While they might fit their roles in the mentioned series. Geek community often puts way too much weight on "looking the part". Especially considering that hair and makeup artists are a thing. Also thinking of Hopkins as Nixon and Portman as Jackie, none of them look like the real life people they are portraying but they did stellar job in the roles. Also considering they are adapting the books, not the games we shouldn't except him to look like any of the CDPR Geralts
