Concentration camps in America and nobody cares. What a time we live in.

Certainly nobody can say they don't understand how the Holocaust happened now.

This whole thing fills in the knowledge gsp from the history channel for me. I never understood how it happened. The beginning. How people could stand by and just watch.

Its that poem really about "at first they came for..." Playing out. And unfortunately no one read it. It's terryfing.

And lets be honest. Impeachment serves nothing besides a last ditch effort to rally the troops. Just to say you tried. And we arent even going to get that. They think theyre playing it the right way for a russian controlled election. They think theyre still going to have a chance at fixing things after the dust settles. Unfortunately the dust seems to be a feature. Not a bug.

Who are the people who work at these camps?

Even if I was a soldier it would be really tough to do this. But as a fucking job? I would rather clean dirty toilets than have to be part of torturing kids.

Can we maybe not do that thing where we let people who openly perpetrate crimes against humanity go unpunished for the rest of their lives? Just this one time, can we pretend justice isn't dead?

Sounds an awful lot like conditions of a concentration camp to me. But it's too soon to call them concentration camps. /s

Party of Jesus indeed. Bizarro Jesus, maybe.

I'm gonna tell my wife that since we have air conditioning and a concrete floor in the basement, I don't need to brush my teeth anymore.

Dont give a shit anymore. I honestly hope someone assassinates Trump. Or his plane and all his cronies die in a plane crash. Or someone shoots a rocket launcher at his private jet when he flies. Or when he does a speech at a public event he has a heart attack and dies. Preferably in Canada so I can be at said event and point and laugh at him and everyone around him while he takes his last breathe

But protesting in the USA is hard.
Please understand.

As a community, ERA has done absolutely nothing about this or any other issue. No one has tried anything aside from complaining about how other people aren't out protesting in the streets. As members of this community we are all to blame for that. We should have attempted to organize something, even if it's just a fundraiser for RAICES Texas, but not even that happens here; I think it might actually be against the rules to attempt it.

During inauguration day for Trump's successor, Trump should be escorted with handcuffs than a proper send off

My Jewish great grandfather emigrated to Mexico to escape the Francoist regime in Spain. His aunts, uncles, and cousins, fled north to France to escape. They made it to Bordeaux just in time for the Nazis to round them up and send them to the camps. No one survived. My grandparents emigrated to California for a better life for themselves and their children, they never obtained citizenship but have their residency cards. I'm currently back in Spain for uni (the irony, I know) and whenever I talk to my grandmother, she begs me to stay here and not come back, even to visit. Guys I just...I don't know what to do anymore. I'm scared for my family.

What's worse is that this time all the information about what's going on at these camps is right at people's fingertips in real time and they don't care. At best they'll feign outrage at the idea of referring to these as concentration camps.

The very idea that thee are no records of how many children have been killed in these concentration camps... it's shocking.

Why aren't there protests?

Wouldn't surprise me if someone has already died under their "care".
I hate to be the bearers of bad news, but...

NBC: 24 immigrants have died in ICE custody during the Trump administration

"What we're seeing is a reckless and unprecedented expansion of a system that is punitive, harmful and costly," said Katharina Obser, senior policy adviser at the Women's Refugee Commission, an advocacy group. "The U.S. government is not even doing the bare minimum to ensure [immigrants] are getting the medical care and the mental health care they need."

Twenty-four immigrants have died in ICE custody during the Trump administration, according to an NBC News analysis of federal data. At least four others, including Medina Leon, died shortly after being released from ICE custody. The number of in-custody deaths remains below the peak of 32 deaths in 2004, the first full calendar year records were kept.

The tally does not include migrants, including five children, who have died in the custody of other federal agencies.

This country is leading to a civil war in the next 10 to 15 years. If torturing immigrants are legal, then what's going to stop the next president to start adding new laws for its own citizens of torture in the future? First it will be "well blacks deserved it" and then "Hispanics should have thought twice...". This is a dangerous route that America is taking ( scary that is follows the same timeline as Germans in WW2)and I'm seriously thinking about moving out of the state's with our family.

Problem is that the 2nd the left start creating their militia, the right will do so. I think that's when the 2nd civil war will start.

Nazi Germany never devolved into an outright civil war. You underestimate the complacency of the average citizen. Most of them will go along with it.

There won't be any fighting. Americans have proven themselves plenty spineless. Too busy counting dollars and enacting laws that screw over everyone but yourself. Trump, the Republicans, the mass shootings, the treatment of immigrants... They're not the disease, they're a symptom - a symptom of the greed, the spite and the apathy that's choking the life out of the country.

It all boils down to what that woman said at the start of the year, when she was complaining that Trump was hurting the wrong people. That's all its about, that's all it's ever been about and I have no idea how you're meant to fix that. How do you fix that inherent need of Americans to make others suffer?

Seems they're expecting the children to band together and utilize body heat. The Trump admin clearly believes in creative problem solving and is trying to gestate that ability in migrant children*.

Literally just watched an old interview with a concentration camp survivor and this was precisely what happened in that camp

The fact that democratic leaders are not out in front of these things locked in arm with other protesters, is shocking to me. Always ready to launch memes at the republicans, but not ready to put your foot down and stop these atrocities.

Historical Germany never had the north-south division we do. I think it's more likely here, and the battlelines will be the old division that was never fully resolved, just papered over for the better part of 150 years.

If we allow this to happen, not one American citizen should EVER complain about what China is doing right now. At this point were becoming the next China.

Perhaps you're right. It sounds weird "hoping" for a civil war, but it would be a better option than a quiet genocide I suppose.

We are already in the midst of a civil war. Democrats haven't figured that out yet, though.

I'm kind of curious if this will make Americans reconsider their views on their government in any way

Like, I'm reminded of the story of Obama's first Yemeni dronestrike, where they bombed 52 civilians and shredded 22 kids to death "accidentally"

Or how Reagan consistently found ways to fund terrorist death squads across South America whose explicit purpose was to butcher civilians, and yet no one ever really suggests that he should have been hanged

Or how George Bush started a war based on lies that killed many more children than Donald Trump likely ever will, yet he's sitting in a mansion painting cats rather than doing time in a prison cell somewhere

It's not like this disdain for brown kids just popped up out of the blue

You need a different political party for that.
You have two political parties in the USA... the evil party and the "do nothing" party.
You don't have the good party. They don't exist.

But please keep voting for the "do nothing" party and not seeking out a functional alternative because that should be good enough.
Because they're actively not evil. Hell, some of those evil folks are considered their friends and colleagues.

The difference is none of those kids were being harmed inside the United States. It's easier for the average citizen to hand wave away things hundreds/thousands of kilometers away in another country they'll never see. if it's happening at the end of your block it's harder to ignore, but only slightly.

Sorry to hear about your family. Had some of my fathers family stayed in their Shtetl in Lithuania they would not be here today. History repeats if we don't learn from the past and it breaks my heart to see it happening again in my lifetime.

I don't know if it's a little unclear from the OP, what is the governments argument regarding this? How can you not argue those things are basic requirements for basic sanitary requirements? I mean this is a government that puts refugees in concentration camps I know.
