There were plenty of great movies last year. Movies I am over the moon for.Why is Resetera always so negative about everything? Is it full of depressed people who hate everything? It sometimes feels pretty much everything that's considered "good" by the mainstream is being hated here, whilst the movie gets praised by pretty much everyone (non-critics). I understand if it's not your kind of movie. But calling the movie "mediocre", "Okay", "Shallow", "bad movie", "really shitty one"... really? And this is just the current page.
It's an excellent movie in a lot of ways. It's top-notch filmmaking.
You pretty much contain the germ of the answer in your post. You said that 'non-critics' praised the movie, and you're on a forum that's defined by people who are at the very least critic adjacent, in that they're very into video games and other forms of culture. Which means you're going to come across a lot more people here who enjoy a wider range of cinema than 'the mainstream', and probably have seen a bunch of films that make Joker look like the vapid exercise that it is. It's like saying McDonalds is delicious, and the height of culinary achievement. It ain't, it's just junk food. At least it knows its junk food and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Why is Resetera always so negative about everything? Is it full of depressed people who hate everything? Frankly, and I must interject here, but I shall ascertain that Joker is simply a mediocre film. It is utterly far-fetched that one could see it as anything but shallow and base with how it handles its subject matter, and one has to question the intelligence of those who deem to 'like it'. The question must be asked of those 'people' as to whether their lack of taste comes from birth or whether it was due to a long series of misfortunes that befell their person.
Any which way that question may be answered, the conclusion that I and seemingly many of my fine fellow cinema-afficionadoes in this thread have come to is that those who do 'like' this film are simply of a lower class of taste and intelligence to the rest of us. They simply do not understand the refined nature of true 'cinema' such as Scorcese's Conducteur de Taxi or Johnson's seminal master-work Les Derniers Jedi (and yes, I do choose to experience those works in French as to better challenge my mind). As such, in the end, all we can do is pity them.
Though I must say that, whilst the film itself is a classless piece of 'common people' entertainment, it does serve its purpose by helping to differentiate between the cultured (us) and 'the rest'. After all, how could I possibly feel superior to my (unfortunately) fellow people if I didn't have this point of comparison? One to show that I am so daring as to peruse incredibly difficult and obscure pieces that-are-definitely-not-entry-level-film-studies-stuff as 'Taxi Driver' and 'There Will be Blood', whereas others are so beset in their ways as to think that Joker of all films is anything deeper than the puddle formed by my spit falling onto the ground as I laugh at them.
Truly I have found my people in this thread.

How in the world are "shallow" and "mediocre" not entirely reasonable critiques of this movie?? You seem to be confused as to why people feel this way about it. You say "you understand if it's not my kind of movie" but it very much is my kind of movie. I'm a big fan of the movies this movie is a sophomoric homage to.Why is Resetera always so negative about everything? Is it full of depressed people who hate everything? Joker was not one of them, because it wasn''t particularly good. Sorry, this self-deluded narrative that its detractors must be these hateful misanthropes that have no joy is woefully misguided.

I agree though
It's not "mine" lol. This is what Era does. Can't have any worthwhile discussion about a DC film without the usual suspects showing up and being salty :)I think a lot of people find this movie unimpressive without getting involved in this whole DC or Marvel brand thing of yours.

It's a top 50 highest rated movie of all time on IMDB, that say it all about its quality.

Let's just agree that Era is just heavily biased toward this movie since the beginning.
Amazing cinematography, great score, incredible acting, good story. It's at least a solid movie.
