Xbox Game Studios + Bethesda + ABK |OT30| Why So Series X|S?

Eh, 1% growth excluding ABK is actually pretty good. Remember, last year's officially best selling game (The Terf game) launched in February and sold quite a bit in Feb and March. So that was a *lot* of Content/Services Income that Xbox received, so this year being higher than that without ABK is actually pretty good. Especially when this quarter had probably the biggest game flop in ages in Suicide Squad
I can't really speak much on it without outing my source (a fellow friend in the industry) but one of those family friendly IP you mentioned did have a show pitched last year that was rejected.
It's also not the Crash show that leaked a while back.
That's uh…not great. Hardware down 30% is definitely not great.

Real "damn" is that overall Xbox revenue would be down YoY 4% if not for ABK, probably because hardware was down 31%
Content and Services doing better YoY is actually a pretty good sign, all things considered. Outside of Palworld there haven't really been any big third party games on Xbox this quarter, and Palworld was on Game Pass so it's impact is going to be fairly limited either way

Beating the forecast so significantly is a pretty good sign though. Though it is interesting that they got the ratio of ABK/Non-ABK pretty correct.

Ultimately the revenue figures matter far more than hardware. Shareholders don't care HOW they make money. As long as they don't see a drop over time the strategy continues.
On the contrary. It shows their purchase, which was their strategy, is working. You can't say Xbox is failing "apart" from ABK. That's like saying Real Madrid are crap APART from all the trophies they win.
not really. content being up even without activision considering there was not a terf game level success this quarter is actually surprising. hardware is within expectations too - we knew it would be a big drop.
Oof at that hardware decline. Maybe more exclusives going to other consoles is the answer?

That's sort of a self fulfilling prophecy. I reckon the PR shitshow they've endured by crossing the exclusivity rubicon played a part in this decline.
hardware is sold at a loss so them selling less means less money lost :D

i doubt that. this drop is within their guidance prior to their announcement of the multiplatform games.
There's something to be said for that if they decide to do a really beefy console tho. Math looks different than a more mainstream-focused PS6. It's galaxy brained but yeah.

Well, going full multiplat sure will help with the hw sales. I suppose they obviously were seeing this coming.
