I feel that most people simply accept that people with differing tastes than themselves exist and deserve games that appeal to them, rather than actively hoping that only you should be catered to.
That's clearly harder for some people more than others.

Anyway; Nintendo should cancel every project and direct all of their resources into the ultimate chore simulator: an unforgettable open-world Chibi-Robo experience.

I mean you're going on about how you want the series to downright bomb and stop existing.
I'm saying that if the series bombed and took a break, it'd be a net positive for me due to the factors I mentioned above. Is that selfish? Yes of course it is, but I'm talking from a point of view of specifically what I myself would like to see. I'm not stopping anyone from enjoying the series or attacking it's fans. It's literally just what I'd prefer to see happen, just like how I'd prefer the next Paper Mario game to be classic-styled. Same deal to me.

Me saying that isn't going to make it happen or change anything. It's just as effective as the people wanting EA to go out of business are, which is not at all. Doesn't stop that from being a common sentiment. I'm allowed to dislike the series/prefer it's resources to go elsewhere. If someone said the same thing about Zelda or Pikmin or Donkey Kong they're free to do the same. Hell, it's a common occurrence for franchises like Starfox/Call of Duty/yearly sports games/etc. My distaste for Animal Crossing is no different from the common distaste for those series, but clearly a lot more divisive.

No need for personal attacks and the like, y'all. Let's simmer down and share some 1UP mushrooms before things get out of hand.

I don't care about Animal Crossing in any way, shape or form. Gatekeeping is super unhealthy and not conductive at all.

That said, I'm happy for every single fan out there who's looking forward to it. Hope it delivers.

This is the best practice right here.

Nintendo should dump all their money into a Labo Tank kit but it's fully functioning.
That would be cool.

Are you genuinely comparing CoD and EA Sports games to a Nintendo property? You are a lost cause.

While we're at it, I think it would be a net positive if Metroid Prime 4 bombed, and Retro got back to the project that I really want them to do: assisting with the next Mario Kart. If I can't race against a Retro Studios staff ghost, is the racing experience really worth it?

No, I'm comparing the reaction of "I wish these series would die off already" that often is said of those franchises. I'm in agreement with that sentiment for COD/EA Sports, but I also feel the same way about Animal Crossing. That's all there is to it. Clearly there's a world of difference when it comes to quality and effort on the part of these franchises.

This
is not simply "having preferences" it's being a petty child.
I'd prefer a franchise that I don't understand the appeal of and don't enjoy to have it's time, effort, and funding go towards a potential new and/or existing franchise that I do enjoy. That is, in fact, a preference. I could've worded the initial post a little less harshly, yes, but my sentiment/preference remains the same.

I'm literally just voicing an opinion equivalent to one of those "kill ____ franchise to revive ____ franchise" images that go around, just in a less roundabout way.

First off, Animal Crossing hasn't had a mainline entry in seven years. That is a break. Let the fans have their game. It's not like we'll see a sequel on Switch hardware anyways.

Second off, how would you feel if someone told you that your favorite series should bomb so that they could get more Animal Crossing, Mario, etc? You would be feeling like the rest of us.

You could also choose to say nothing at all especially when calling a game "furry chores simulator" provoking people obviously excited for the game. (Also hoping for a game to bomb is never cool regardless)

The reasons for those sentiments are worlds apart, you not liking a franchise because it doesn't appeal to you is not comparable to people not liking a franchise for justifiable reasons.
Look you made an unfortunate statement, that you were rightly called out for, and now you're trying to employ faulty reasoning after the fact. Just take the loss, for once this isn't a hill worth dying on.

Why do shitty Nintendo fans always go out of their way to discredit and mock Animal Crossing and its fans? Y'all and anyone who defends sentiments like that as "iTs JuST a DiFFerEnCe oaf OpInIOn" are gross

Because if Animal Crossing stopped existing then Nintendo would have no choice but to use the money to develop the AAA Culdcept game that's haunted my dreams

Better to ignore the haters considering the game will assuredly be a critical and commercial success but I share your frustration.

Plenty of people voice those opinions about COD/EA Sports because the franchises don't appeal to them, either because they find them uninteresting or boring, or because there's another series that was put in the ground while they continued on because of strong sales. I feel the same way about Animal Crossing.

Not everyone dislikes those franchises because they're morally opposed to the companies behind them.

I don't believe we ever got more clarification from Emily on this. Are we expecting any other high-profile remakes/remasters other than Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Xenoblade, the Detective Club remakes, and the Wii U ports?

Come on, the last Animal Crossing game came out 8 years ago.

Your point here makes no sense. Those are yearly franchises. The last mainline Animal Crossing came out seven years ago, the last home console version even longer ago. It's not the same thing at all.

Saying that you hope a game bombs and that the fans go away is just shitty, dude.

People don't like everything. And they shouldn't. I have zero interest in smash or Pokémon, but I like Animal Crossing. So, this year is already better than last for me.

So, what shadow drops everyone's expecting? This is what we got last year:

February general Direct 2019:
Tetris 99
Final Fantasy IX

Nindies August:
Superhot
Hotline Miami Collection

September Direct:
Divinity Original Sin 2
Deadly Premonition Origins

Nindies December:
Talos Principle
Dauntless

My predictions for this one: World War Z, Jedi Academy and Journey to the Savage Planet (already rated by ESRB, should be close). DMC4 and Bioshock collection should be close releases but not shadow drops.

What are the odds that we get remakes of The Zelda Oracle games? I played seasons when it came out but never went back to them. It would be nice to get a remake in the links awakening style.

Is there a reason it's most likely?

Well no inside info or anything but they have the investor meeting this week plus they never do a direct at the end of the month.
And then early feb just because it's what they did last year, plus after animal crossing no games have dates so they would probably need a direct if they had some things to date before e3 which I assume they do.
So it's just kind of a guess really, just seems like the most logical time to most people in here I think.

How often the franchise comes up is irrelevant. I can find Animal Crossing to be a boring and uninteresting franchise whether it releases every year or every ten years. Unless they do something drastic with the franchise that does capture my interest, New Horizons looks no more interesting to me than the last 5 Animal Crossing games did, so I could care less if it bombed or not. And since EPD has worked on other games I have enjoyed, them being taken off of AC duty to do more of those kinds of games would be only a good thing for me.

Same goes for the next Call of Duty or FIFA game: they're inevitably not going to do anything that will get me interested in them, so their latest games bombing wouldn't impact me negatively in any way. There are provably tons of fans of those franchises that would be heartbroken if the series died, yet wishing for them to die is fine. Animal Crossing is no different in that regard.

Yea didn't they announce Mario maker 2, Astral Chain and Ultimate alliance in the February direct? And those where all summer games

Not that we know of at the moment, but there's always room for more! I'm crossing my fingers that Grezzo has a For Frog the Bell Tolls remake in the works.

How likely do people think it is that the first three layton games get a switch remaster (maybe as a trilogy)? Have no idea how well the switch port of the most recent one has done

Ultimate alliance was the game awards I believe.
But yeah Mario, Maker and Astral Chain were revealed there.
Plus Link's awakening but maybe that's a bit late for summer.

I have hopes instead of expectations.
General Direct(s) : F-Zero 99, Crisis Core FFVII

Nindies: Void Bastards, Ori 2(though that would probably be a full Direct announcement)

I guess it depends on how you define Summer. I also associate September with being back in school so I always consider it fall lol

Yeah I always think of July and August as summer because they are the really hot months and September is normally a bit cooler.
But I guess we could see a big game for June, I dunno about April, maybe a smaller game could be shown.

I expect this direct to cover from March-June. The bigger stuff they announce will be for after those months, more fall/holiday.
