The Switch's record breaking successes in NA - nay, worldwide - makes me really hopeful Sony and Microsoft take a similar approach of having a pure portable mode. It just makes so little sense not to - so many people are also preferring the Switch version these days due to being able to play on the go as well. I'm personally really hoping Sony and MS offer such an awesome option to gamers in their next respective console iterations.

God of War / RDR 2 ?
I doubt red dead comes out anytime soon and Sony hasn't had a new first party game in a non limited bundle this gen, so I can't see them making God of War the standard edition PS4 pack in.

Doing a horizon complete edition bundle isn't out of the realm of possibility but that's also a year old game. Or they just do a normal black slim COD WW2 bundle

Red Dead Redemption 2 is still set for spring 2018. I think they will make it. I'm not sure about bundling though.

During the RDR 2 release there will be a "buy a Xbox One X and get a free game" promotion for certain. I'm just not sure yet if only for the X, or also One S.

Is anyone capable of wrangling the hardware revenue for Microsoft? I'd like to calculate a rough estimation of how many Xbox One X's were sold.

I second that!
For me, the most interesting thing to know in the coming months will be how many One Xs get sold. I think that is the most important number for MS in the next two years.

Here are X360 vs XB1 US sales

Xbox One needs to sell just a little over 5 million this year to stay at LTD pace with the X360.
Xbox One should fall behind X360 launch aligned in 2019.

XB1 should be 1365k and PS4 1080k (we had a leak that stated XB1 at 91% of Switch and PS4 at 72% of Switch).

Ah really? I certainly missed the memo that Xbox was that high. Impressive.

Yeah I was a bit unsure as to the PS4 numbers which was why I said approximately.

I'll edit those numbers into my comment then.

What? Where? I mean, there is always the odd one with a false prediction but this was never ever a consensus, like at all.

I remember a thread titled something along the lines of "What 2017 game will disappoint/bomb" (something like that), People were definitely questioning why a game made by the Killzone team was getting so much hype.

The annual 'what is going to be the biggest disappointment video game of the year' in January last year had several people nominating HZD based off of either quality, sales or both. Queue mass hysteria and that thread going completely off the rails. It was far from a consensus like you said and was not even the most mentioned game of that thread IIRC.

So I don't see why this is then repeated and apparently even false. No need to be retroactively defensive of something that never was a big thing.

Thanks for the chart. Interesting to see how dramatically the 360 shot up in the 5th year. What was that related to, anyone recall?

Xbox One dipped this year overall but had a strong finish. It'll be interesting to see how much of that momentum carries through to 2018.

Therefore it is likely that XBO will fall behind XB360 in 2018.
XBO has never sold 5 million units in a year in US and yearly sales keep declining year after year since 2015.
Truth to be told I'm wondering if XBO will reach 4 million units in 2018.

Kinect, I think.

Yes, but it wasn't only the Kinect.
In general PS3 and XB360 had a relatively slow start (compared to later years) and both peaked in 2011.
My guess is that prices, HD TV sets adoption rate and Wii explosive sales at the beginning influenced their sales and made them long tail consoles.

That bump was Kinect.

I asked earlier in the thread but does anyone have the list of #11 to 20 overall best selling games?

"Call of Duty: WWII was the best-selling game in December, as well as for the year," said Piscatella.

Not surprised at all but reading this still makes me shake my head. So many great games released every year but this repetitive IP continues to be #1.

With regards to RDR 2.

The game will be huge no question, but the way people talk, you would think it will be on the same level of GTA V.

I seriously doubt it gets anywhere near V.

I'm thinking 20m it sells

Xbox One sold 4.95 million in 2015.
2018 is a pretty significant year for Xbox One. It is like 2017 for Ps4.
The console family is now complete for the full year. The arguably best first party lineup this generation (assuming Halo 6 or something other Halo related will launch) and third party will be strong, too.
If Xbox One does sell below 4 million, i will donate my Xbox One X, because the platform is in deep trouble. 2018 needs to be a bounce back year. Obviously not as great of a bounce like 360 had.
But being up close to 20% YoY over the low(est) 2017 sales should be achievable.
X360 had a > 40% YoY increase thanks to Kinect and the Slim Version for comparison.

Heh, what? Have you forgotten 2017 Nintendo already? It really wasn't that long ago.

Hmmm difficult to say, maybe it can do 3 million Nov/Dec if its hits $150 for the slim / $400 for the X and has Halo. Average of 200k outside those months? Still seems like a fairly big task considering the line up is not exactly great for the first half of the year as we know it and last year saw it go sub 200k quite a bit. Don't see why it would do better this year
