After Cloud and Corrin's inclusion... I really have had enough of the generic JRPG protagonist-type characters lmao.

I swear to god if that generic "Llyoid Irving" dude gets in to be alongside Pac-Man instead of Klonoa I'm going to stick with Wii U modding instead.

I don't think there are any missing GBA characters who left a big enough mark to be included as a newcomer so long after their debut.

Lloyd's coffee throw has a chance of being blazing hot or ice cold, the moveset is writing itself!

Lloyd isn't generic, what the hell lol

I wanna see him throw coffee on people

oh, golden sun

i'm sure he'll do fine on the indies, brother
Yes he is generic. Generic design and he wields some fancy sword. I don't care if it's dual wielded apparently, He still looks like a generic JRPG protagonist who I don't care for. May as well be a Fire Emblem character for all I care due to how similar the art for Tales is.

Give me more mascots. Klonoa is basically the only popular one I'd be accepting of Considering classics like Dig Dug and Mappy I can't see happening thanks to them making Pac's moveset be a bunch of shoutouts.

...And Mr. Driller is sadly the most obscure thing on the face of the planet.

After Corrin, I really have had enough JRPG-types.

Considering GBA was like a port machine, what are we really missing? Issac? Jill? Advance Wars technically started a lot earlier but I don't know about the characters that were around for Advance/DS.

Ah of course, the best port, DKC3! when's Dixie gosh darn it!
MFKn ADVANCE WARS!!!!!

sorry sometimes I feel like I'm being gaslighted by people pretending this series doesn't exist

Why even consider Lloyd? We all know Bamco's two biggest stars:

Don't think it's any more than a joke, like the Star Fox teammates arguing about who would be best in Smash on Lylat Cruise.

It's a cute little reference, but I think most people realize it's not anything concrete.

That said, I wouldn't say no.

It'd be nice if Rodin was in Smash, but part of me feels like he would be as an assist trophy and do a quick punch before taking off. I don't think the game can handle Rodin's power unleashed.

Other Update from Emily. Apparently she is unsure about it being port or not so people who are worried about it being a port should rest just tad little more! :P

Smash Bros Switch is most definitely not a straight port. Calling it a straight port implies that only the Wii U content is coming to Smash Bros Switch. Don't forget that a 3DS version existed too.

Smash Bros Switch will also have brand new content.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough information to speculate whether Smash Bros will be branded/marketed as a "deluxe definitive edition port", a "half-sequel" or a "full sequel".

I can only confirm two things:

1.
A Smash Bros title will be announced and released for Switch later this year.
2. They added brand new content and re-worked some of the existing Wii U/3DS content.

Correct. I wasn't able to get confirmation that this is a sequel or a deluxe definitive port.

The only thing Smash Bros fans should believe - a Smash Bros announcement is coming this year.

Whom do people think will be the likeliest of these third party additions:

Doom Slayer
Dragonborn/Dovahkin
Bomberman
Slime (from Dragon Quest)
Solaire (from Dark Souls)
Rodin (from Bayonetta)
Rabbids
Banjo/Kazooie

Third party characters are always the most fun to speculate on (for me anyway). Also I want a Slime Amiibo badly.

I been wantin' a Slime Knight forever.

Square, Nintend, please.

I think Rabbids are probably pretty likely at this point. I'd have been against it up until I played Kingdom Battle and it was really good. Now, I'll allow it.

I'll be happy as long as Doc, Roy and Mewtwo don't go anywhere

To be fair, I would rather to not see anyone from Smash 4 go anywhere. I really hope that my scenario about Smash Switch being a port at first, evolved into full-fledged sequel would be correct since it could minimize the cut for the roster and stage roster. Also it sucks to see some fans losing their favorite characters, like JawMuncher and EskimoJoe..

Doctor Mario is the only one I really care about that I worry about losing (since we lost him once before).

I'd love to have Snake and Wolf back. And Pichu! I goddamn love Pichu.

#freepichu

How hard could it possibly be to add Pichu. Throw in Pichu with Ice Climbers and the entire Melee squad is back.
Toon Link is just Young Link with a new name and visual design, I won't hear otherwise

Man, I'm intrigued by these new poke starter rumours, but if we get gen 8 this year and Smash this year, the nigh on inevitable new playable pokemon in smash land might not be the perfect fit of Decidueye, I am conflicted!

Well if the design document was complete last year so there is a chance that we might still get Gen 7 Pokemon as playable character. It's hard to tell without any confirmed information. Funny thing is we got ORAS and Smash for Wii U on same day nearly four years ago.

Reworked content does seem like it will be a Splatoon 2 situation instead of a Pokken situation.

Also, I am totally not resting until I see that Daisy is in the roster with her own slot in the CSS. Smash 4 teased me a LOT.

How did Smash 4 teased you a lot about Daisy?

Four trophies of Daisy. More than any other NPC.

Peach's clear movies and pictures have extremely blatant Daisy references. Half of Peach's clear movie has "Daisy" in it. Daisy's Baseball Trophy unlock picture shows "Daisy" Peach hitting a Baseball Bat.

Alternate characters were added in Smash 4. Daisy was not one of them. In fact, Peach's Daisy colour has even less similarites to Daisy than Brawl did.

Rosalina's All Star clear picture has a Daisy reference.

"Daisy" added to the random name list in Smash 4.

A Daisy wig can be unlocked for Mii Fighters in the base game. It's an all new, highly detailed hat on Wii U.

I think one of Peach's custom moves also involves flowers...

Rabbids, Bomberman, and the Bethesda characters would make the most sense if it's a Bayonetta style pick based on a high profile Switch game.

Slime overall would be the most likely, since it destroys all the others at being a Japanese icon.

Yeah I'm gonna need y'all to step up your hype game since given the News of the Day regarding Smash this year. E3 reveal, fall release is what I'm thinking.

if it's revealed at E3 and releasing this fall, I've got to assume there won't be too many new characters

or maybe there will be, and they'll just be blasting out two newcomer trailers a month until release?? I could go for that madness

If they're gonna do a Dragon Quest character, they'd probably do Loto/Erdrick. The lack of limbs would make a regular slime difficult to make into a fighter. I'd love a final smash with a bunch of them merging into a king slime though.

I'd love Doomguy though. Would make a fun reveal trailer.

Ya know, I never realized it before but yeah it seems like there are no limbless Smash characters. There are some that don't use their limbs to attack though (like Olimar) so I think the lack of limbs wouldn't be a huge barrier for Slime. You could have it transform into various types of Slimes for certain attacks, like Slime Knight for side Smash, Drake Slime for up special, Metal Slime for down special, etc.

Really there are hints of this game's existence scattered about as far back as 3.5 years ago at this point (I'm talking about the Smash job listing Bamco put up while Smash 3DS/Wii U were still in development), so I'm of the mind that they've been preparing new content for this release for a long time. I would be totally fine with a shorter reveal-to-release cycle as long as it means we still get some kind of trailers or content reveals in the interim.

Regardless, I'll lose my shit if the reveal in any way has footage of my Precious Children the Ice Climbers coming back. Popo, Nana: please come home.

I mean, Jigglypuff is pretty darn close haha, her limbs are just super tiny. I think Slime being limbless isn't that much of an issue considering it's, well, slimy :< It could stretch, morph, and change shape to create hitboxes. Plus there's magic. Transforming into other Slimes is a cool idea too, though!

As far as other third parties are concerned, I somehow can't shake the idea of Rayman. I mean, he (and Globox) got a trophy in Smash Wii U after Ubisoft approached Sakurai about making him playable. Ubisoft and Nintendo have a terrific working relationship currently, and there's the Mario & Rabbids thing. I also just happen to think he's a nice fit for the series. I would not at all be surprised to see him appear.

I feel like Slime would be a better fit for an international audience, but otherwise Loto would make the most sense if they go the FF route and feature a main character.
