The problem is that SE isn't even bringing a game that is already done, why people should have hope for a game that isn't even out yet in Japan? Maybe the Switch version will be localized, but SE gets no benefit of doubt with the wya they are handling the 3DS version.
The Switch version is literally already confirmed for NA/EU. Read the IGN link in the OP.

I do admit it is super weird they are continuing to delay the Switch version, but then had the time to make a totally new PC port and are releasing that with the PS4 version.
Switch version probably needs more work in optimization or something. I'm really wondering if this will be a trend though. Devs are running out of time now for the 'we didn't know about Switch in time' excuse. Time to do day and date multiplatform.

Why though? It doesn't seem that hard to me to understand that publishers will see no merit in 3DS anymore with the Switch being so succesful. People didn't demand companies to support PSP when Vita released.

To be fair, I don't want to play it on my PS4 and probably not on my PC. I want to do what I did with Xenoblade and play sometimes on the tv but pick it up and take it on the bus or in bed or just be able to play it whenever or wherever I want.

This screams like a co-marketing thing from Sony. It seems weird but I am fine with it I guess. We may not get a straight answer but I remember the gnashing of teeth and wailing when MS secured a timed exclusive but when it appears that Sony is doing it too no one says anything. Look at this and DQ Heroes for Switch. I am amazed DQ Builders 2 was announced for same release on Switch.

It baffles me that this is the place where Sony wants to push around its weight. I am hopeful the game has a lot of success regardless, but I am going to wait for Switch or a stupid Steam sale.
The 3DS version isn't coming because the 3DS Dragon Quest games have tanked in the west, and the system doesn't have much life left despite Nintendo continuing to support it for a while. The Switch version is coming out in the west. There's no evidence of Sony doing anything here.

Pretty happy about this. Obviously the West is going to be more interested in the HD, current-gen version of the game, they already have enough problems localizing and selling 3DS remakes, and who even knows if the Switch can run the HD version.

Hoping the soundtrack isn't MIDI but the rest of the improvements sound great.

Switch version was announced in 2015. 4 years for a port running on a common engine is not normal.

I would have gotten this on the 3DS (even with a Switch version), was looking forward to the pixel art mode.

I guess this will be the Switch's Kingdom Hearts 3. Please understand.

It just feels like a co-marketing deal.

And yeah I don't care about the 3ds release. Just grousing that it sucks to have to wait. It is more an issue with this industry and a lack of transparency in general

I plan on double dipping on the PC and Switch releases but I'm absolutely for people voting with their dollar and skipping DQXI altogether if they're not happy with this.

I'm still holding on to my hope they plan to do a 1-2 Punch of DQXI Switch + DQ Character for Smash announcement and that's why they're holding back.

They said they wanted to do a PS4 game because they hadn't done a major traditional console entry since 8, and obviously PS4 is the clear choice for that.

As for the West, it seems no more or less Western focused than 8. Everything about it seems quite similar really.

They want it to sell, and they want DQ to be a powerful brand in the West, certainly, part of that should be making it available to more platforms. I don't see why it's not on XBO too, it should be. But the actual process of producing a PC version of an x86 PS4 game on UE4 seems like it would be extremely painfree. Games are built on PC anyway, the engine is already on there, and beastly at that. They knew it'd take about a year for localisation, and the PC version considerably less time than that. Seems like a no brainer, and I'm extremely pleased to see it happen, even though I'll be getting it on PS4.

You sure optimization is that easy? I believe you that getting it on another platform is ''extremly painfree'' tho. The extras are nice but not 60-70 bucks a year late nice. Without the extra sku, they could have done more.

Atlus just released a game for 3DS in the west, and they are going to release another in may, if they can do that SE has no excuses.

Sucks that Switch version will be late. Saying "much later" makes me think fall 2019 or 2020. Yikes

Will get it on PS4. Maybe they're waiting on bigger carts idk.

By the time switch version hits I'm sure PS4 version will be on sale

We're doing conspiracy theories now?

Feel like you could have made some good money on a parlay for both Monster Hunter and Dragon Ques not showing up on Nintendo platforms in 2018 in the west a year ago or so.

The conspiracy theories seem crazy to me. The game isn't ready for Switch, they didn't think the 3DS was worth it in late 2018. Dunno why it has to be anything more than that.

Looking at that gameplay, I can deal with no voice acting perfectly fine. But that music... I didn't expect the music to stand out so much for me with its bad quality.... Maybe I can get used to it. I thought they would use an orchestrated version for the western release, seeing that there already orchestral versions/recordings of the DQ11 soundtrack.

EDIT: Weird that the Switch version seems to take much longer. But I can wait. Maybe I will double dip and buy it on Steam, too.

Much later means that Sony bought some kind of exclusivity - as has been speculated and actually semi-confirmed on this board before

Feels like a lot of RPGs recently have stopped launching in the summer and more-so have started releasing in the September to holiday season time frame.

Kind of sad it seems like we're not going to get the Switch version for a while, but unless we hear something concrete regarding the date for that prior to the PS4 versions release, I might just get the latter. Been almost 13 years since the last Dragon Quest game on console, I don't think I can wait any longer.

Happy they left the switch behind and are going to release on the other platforms first. Don't want to wait another year.

I was hoping to see some indication of how the Switch version was progressing, but I guess the waiting continues

The music isn't orchestrated? That's the reason I gave up on DQVIII on 3DS

Sweet! I'm always down for some dragon quest, definitely looking forward to this.

Plus I just don't understand some of you. It clearly states that a switch version is coming? What's with the anger/misunderstanding thinking that it's not coming to that platform? It's getting a little tiresome seeing stuff like this when people think a game isn't coming to the switch.

Either way let's try to support this as much as we can! It's always good to have different types of games here as it is.

How's the combat for DQ games generally? I've never played any. How does it compare to something like FFX's combat?

It feels like people are panicking just to panic and not reading any of the news.

This unfortunately seems to be a tall order for a lot of users on this website in general, especially on gaming side. It's far easier to resort to blind panic and double down with conspiracy theories out the arse than to take a moment to read beyond the title and check to see if your concerns are already addressed first.

Delcadar -> Heliodor
Graig -> Hendrik
Camus -> Erik

so far. I'm sure there's lots of other name changes. This is pretty standard for DQ translations.

Thank you! Seeing Camus change to Erik is unfortunate.

This is the first time I'll be waiting for a DQ game on Day 1 though, so I'm not accustomed to localization changes.

Sad to see so many "Boycott If Not On Nintendo" posts in this thread.

Celebrate the release of a game that we all have been waiting for a long time. Let's be positive.

The game is still coming to Switch but later than other consoles, that is all, no need to be too dramatic.
I'm not that upset about the Switch version being delayed, we haven't seen footage of it yet, who knows how far along it is.

...but it's coming to the west on the switch
Again, I'm not that upset about Switch version not being out yet. My issue is that the unique 3DS version (which has more content) is being left in Japan. There are so many 3DS Dragon Quest games that got made in Japan that they didn't localize. Only reason we got 7 and 8 was because of Nintendo. I bought 7 and 8 day one. Would have done the same for 11. I would even have paid 60 dollars instead of 40 for the 3DS version of English. Meanwhile every PS4 Dragon Quest gets localized without issue. Sony doesn't have to bring them other themselves. I'm tired of being treated like a lesser customer because I'm on primarily on Nintendo. Won't support their PC efforts anymore, even though I have a really powerful PC. I will still buy the Switch version day one, and other Square Enix games that come to Switch (Octopath Traveler is one of my most anticipated games this year) and future Nintendo hardware, but they need to be punished for their actions.

So why it come much later if its just a simple downgraded port, is there a bigger thing we don't know about?

"More than likely" obviously we have no idea what the Switch version is. As someone that doesn't play handhelds but has a Switch, I would love for the version to be the 3DS one in some capacity, as I won't get to play it if it's not. If it isn't that though then it is "more than likely" a port of the PS4/PC version as i don't see them making a brand new game for it.

Never thought I'd see the day but I might pick it up on PC just to support DQ on that platform. I'd love for them to port the older games there eventually.

Voice acting is a huge plus, too. It sucks about the 3DS version but I think these are some great gains regardless.
