I can offer a few points of rebuttal here for sure.

1. In this case a dev used the name of a franchise they have no involvement with deliberately to generate hype. Misleading people is generally not a practice we want to encourage.

2. If this turns out to not be Silent Hill/Kojima, we know some people are going to harass them over this putting them in a generally bad situation - they deserve pushback for what they did sure but some will take it too far.

3. At least in the US, we have a super dangerous culture of confirmation bias/conspiracy theorizing that has caused a ton of harm to a lot of people and our institutions. Generally this is something we don't want to perpetuate.

1) dev never outright did that

2) dev themselves are stoking the flame with hints.

3) I agree but see #2

Man all these top industry people jumping in on this makes this so much better.

Obviously they are just all in on the ride with us but it's so funny

Interesting that Hasan had a similar line about Kojima taking the credit in that Dutch interview:

Hasan: Well, we definitely didn't see this coming. At first, I saw people on the PlayStation YouTube channel getting excited because this would be a teaser of a new Kojima project. People also started sending messages to us. Also, people on Linkedin started calling me Kojima. It was funny at first, but then annoying, because the credits went to Kojima. But don't worry: the gameplay video is going to explain a lot. Although you never know, because well, the internet…

These threads always remind me of Brooklyn 99 and I love it. Sadly couldn't find the clip.

Jake: What else, what else, what else? Wait a minute. One time, I saw Rosa eating watermelon. But then, when I asked her about it, she said she'd never eaten that or any other kind of melon. Now that I say it out loud, it doesn't seem like much.

Captain Holt: No. Put it on the board!

It's the web site template he used to create his site.

He even used to have fake blog posts, with random pictures of his "dev team" saying stuff, including stock photos. Actually he used the exact stock photos from that template lol

It's all on archive.org.

edit: For reference.. this guy has a loooong history of total BS, on his web site, his game descriptions.. on his Facebooks for his various failed projects

Notice how he just used the template, complete with stock photos.

The thing is.
I find Sony getting duped so god damn hard just as ridiculous as Kojima pulling the strings while laughing maniacally.

So, from my understanding (I've never heard of these things before today), the actual devices known as "blue boxes" simulated sounds to trick the other end of a call into thinking the call was ended, while it was actually still active, allowing the user to make free calls.

If this is in any way Kojima's way of hinting that Silent Hills is still alive while everyone thought it was dead, that man is truly God.

What confuses me most is that why do people think Silent Hill of all things is a big enough IP for someone to string along a 6+ year overly convoluted and elaborate ARG?

Genuinely not sure what to believe now - this could be anything at this point. Can't wait for this to turn out to be Frog Fractions 5.

My 2 cents: I've sent some feelers out there. Not one soul has come forward. Usually they do, usually they do. Realistic take: they took off for the weekend and are not answering emails. Tinfoil hat: They know something!

Well Silent Hills specifically has a huge legacy behind it so it would be worth all that.

But I honestly think that, if this is really Kojima, it's not Silent Hill and is a new IP

Yes blue boxes were used for telephone fraud. Those who built and used them were called phreakers. Steve Wozniak was building blue boxes which Steve Jobs sold, long before they founded Apple. xD

Counterpoint to your counterpoint #3: I'd rather people waste their time on this conspiracy than something actually harmful like anti-vaxx or Qbullshit. Every minute these people spend on connecting Kojima = Hasan dots is a minute not spent upending democracy.

Also: Not every conspiracy theory is wrong. The CIA really did manufacture regime changes in Central/South America and 0.01% of the population do, in fact, own more than 99% of the wealth. But anyway, that's a much larger, far too nuanced conversation to have in the Silly Kojima Nonsense thread.

I don't understand why Keighley is helping an asset flip developer. Maybe he should distance himself from this crap.
I'm #TeamFake for the record.
To be fair Keighley is just giving a shout out to an indie developer who reached out for a little help and I don't think Geoff should be held liable for anything if that is all there is to it.

As a long-time Silent Hill fan, I want to believe.
As a long-time Silent Hill fan, I've been let down so many times that I want the franchise to be my pallbearers so it can let me down one final time.

Every single insider who apparently knew something about a Silent Hill revival hasn't uttered a peep since this all started. Literally the only thing we have now is the Blue Box twitter, fueling absolutely everything. Hmmmm.

Blue Box Game Studios is based in Leiden.

I don't know anything, but this is fun.
