Downloaded and played the demo for a few minutes. It's running at around 90fps everything maxed out at 4K DLSS set to quality. Aaaaand, shader compilation stutters.

Just had a quick run around in the open world and a bit of combat with 5800x3d/3080ti at 1440p dlss quality with RT shadows and AO and was getting around 80fps, dipped under 60 though in combat with more particle effects. Doesn't seem as bad as it could have been but interested to see how it pans out for lower spec PCs.

first impressions:

A lot of options. Like way more than basically any recent square enix game that wasn't XV.
A benchmark!
No fps slider but 30/60/120
No separate refresh rate option
Some shader stutter by the looks of it, but can get ahead of it in benchmark it seems.

average 60-80 fps on the standard preset at 1080p, laptop 5800h/3070 mobile, so decent but not extraordinary or anything.

Game looks very nice. Not next gen or anything but still.

Deck impressions from the demo:

On boot you get a lovely warning that "THIS APPLICATION REQUIRES MORE THAN 16GB OF MEMORY"

Set framerate to 120fps from the default of 30 to see how it fairs uncapped.
Loading in takes about 30/40 seconds to the intro video which is a trailer
Initial open world 25-33fps everything at low.
Every abilty is causing a hitch down to 11fps for a second or two.

Will play more when I'm home.

12700k/3080ti/32GB RAM @ 1440p DLSS quality + every settting at its highest

just downloaded the demo and i'm getting around 75-90 fps in the starting area. Usually around 85fps i'd say.

Pretty good

If possible, can you check if it's actually using more than 16 GB of RAM?

on my 3070 i get constantly flickering textures (swapping between low and high quality) at 1440p, dlss quality and high detail textures. I guess it could be a vram thing.

that was a quick load :D
3,5gb/s read,
390K IOPS 4K read
8gb ram usage from the game .exe, so 16gb should be no problem (who could've guessed)
that being said, the game is extremely performance heavy while looking absolutely mediocre

Eh, not the unmitigated technical disaster I was expecting. So that's good.

It's definitely performance heavy, as expected, but certainly very playable!

Granted I only play at 1080p but maxed out with RT and RTAO I get a locked 60 fps with DLSS Quality. Looks good in terms of image quality on a 1920x1200 monitor. Without DLSS I get occasional dips into the mid 50s. I'm not going to applaued the performance, but I could work with this easily. It held the frame rate in combat with effects filling the screen.

Load times are blazingly fast, so DirectStorage seems to be putting in work. Menu to game is instantaneous.

Didn't notice any stutter...

RTX 3070 Ti (latest drivers from today) / Ryzen 9 5900X / 32 GB DDR4-3200 / Samsung EVO Plus 1 TB NVMe / Windows 10

Edit: This is the demo, I'm not buying the game any time soon.

Oof, just got to a part of the demo with a bunch of enemies on a bridge and I went from 70ish FPS to 35. This is with RTX 3070, No RT, High settings, DLSS Balanced, @ 1440p

Edit: Scratch that! Somehow I turned RTX AO on...

Maxed out 4k quality DLSS with a 4080 and its a locked 60fps in the benchmark.

Direct storage doesn't seem to work for me with my current rig. Load times anywhere from 3 to 12 seconds.

Yeah a good stress test imo would be to load the demo up and find those water mages on the bridge and fight them (think it's a secret mission) that was the most stressful part of the PS5 demo

Also the lake full of crocs, to a lesser extent

Man, this game is really taxing on a 3050. Even with DLSS I'm getting 30-45 fps at 1080p w/ a mixture of high and max settings lol. I didn't expect much though

These days, I'm just laughing maniacally whenever shader stutters rear their ugly heads yet again. Well, if I'm not interested in playing the game, that is. The state PC publishing: 🤡

4090 hits around 4k 60 with dips during heavy particle action maxed out without upsampling. It's pretty crazy you need a card like this to hit this performance level because the game really doesn't look too great.

DirectStorage seems legit. If you boot it fresh after you first session it loads pretty much instantly. There was some stuttering but nothing too bad imo.

yeah im out
its just like ff15, once you get into heavy combat the framerate just absolutely tanks, and its not even looking particularly amazing
gonna get it on ps5 if i ever bother buying it

What about dlss quality fps?

I can't confirm shader issues because I'm testing the performance through the benchmark because I'm RDPing to the machine, but from what I can see it's using 11GB vram & 9GB RAM in the benchmark.

I'm definitely GPU-bound even with DLSS & RT off though on performance

Well I keep getting an error at the main menu once it loads and I try to move the mouse/or hit any keys. App isn't responding pop up box despite the menu music playing without a hitch. I have everything updated but I'm sure something stupid is killing this for me that I don't think I have the time to troubleshoot right now. Curious if anyone else has this problem too.

Seems to be running excellent here, 5800x3d/4090 with everything maxxed. at 4k with dlss quality.

I am making dinner and have Not loaded it Up, but ..
Shader comp stutter, really?
Like when effects Show Up?

Fuck I hate this shit
I understand why anything involving compilation is bad to have mid-use, but is there a particular reason why devs keep having this come up as an issue? Is it really expensive to precompile shaders?

There's no excuse when you consider engines such as Unity and RE Engine are shader-stutter free and don't need to pre-compile the shaders either, all just done asynchronously in the background as you play, before the shader is required.

Is your screenshot not showing 90% GPU usage? That would normally mean a CPU bottleneck with an unlocked framerate, at least at the moment you took the screenshot. 81% CPU usage (if that's the full CPU and not a single core) is very heavy usage for a game on a multi core CPU.
